Reviews range from very good to perfect, everyone behaved aside from Yoshichan, TSA hated the game, someone at Gamestop confused Zelda for Skyrim, oatmeal hates everything, and I almost got plugged in the face by a silenced pistol.

British people either have far superior taste than people from Europe and America, or far inferior. Which I'm just stating for the sake of sounding fair, it's *clearly* superior.

For starters, thanks for mentioning me in a post *swoon*

Secondly, TSA didn't hate it. And I don't hate everything. I hate you, but I don't hate everything.

It has at least 3 heart container pieces (One you can get on the first visit, one you can get when you're halfway through the second dungeon, and one you get later when you return in the Dark World, use the mirror, and you're golden), several caves, and the second dungeon.

It's very small, too. You can run across it in 5 seconds.

Attached to it is the rock that takes you to the dark world.

And on the screen to the east is a hidden ruppee tunnel, a locksmith (who gives you a bottle) and another cave (I think a fairy?)...

That's quite a lot.

Most of those aren't in the desert. If we are counting things on the fringes, then you could apply the same standard to the field in TP. There are a few heart pieces that you can find around it. They're actually quite similar in their designs.

Also, it's not fair to compare them in terms of time. 2D Zelda games are necessarily quicker to play.

Not need worry man, Nintendo would subsidize us with all the money from selling old downloadable NES and SNES at what? 6 dollars a pop i think.

They're on the same screen as the desert.

TP's had the Arbiters Grounds, the Cave of Ordeals, annnnd the mirror? And it was all spread out over a massive, and quite dull landscape. No objects to climb or look in...just flat desert except for those two things.

Though everything related to AG was awesome.

Oh one more thing about the incident, when I talked to the people in the office they said that apart from the guy getting shot, that their toilet got shot the fuck up. Just found it somewhat amusing in light of something terrible.

Could you please explain that what you meant by saying that Ghirahim 'never and ever' does anything more than fighting link?

I haven't played the game yet, but even in the trailers he does evil things beside fighting Zelda.

I don't see how, but everyone's entitled to their opinion. I wouldn't say "perfectly realized" about the world in any of these games, though.

The only difference now between you and me is that you played the game while I didn't. So, I'm going to give you the benefice of doubt. Mostly because I know you are particularly critic and insightful with the Zelda series. Further, some of your cited problems arose from other editors as well.

I would anyway like to read a complete review from your side.
 
I'm sorry, but can someone please explain to me why the Edge review is so highly regarded other than the fact that they awarded SS a 10? Because, in my opinion, it's one of the most annoyingly-written reviews of the bunch.

The eye-rolls started at "Freed from the shackles of buttons, Nintendo’s monster designers concoct a giddying bestiary of revamped favourites and startling debuts." (...seriously?) and didn't stop for the rest of the review. Granted, I like my reviews to be written with a little more flourish than "I didn't like this; I did like that." But with that said a few of the perfect score reviews seemed to be smothered in fanboy language.

I think I'm drawn more to the 4-star/8+ reviews for this reason. SS is getting generally favorable reviews, but the 8+ reviews seem to be a little more down-to-earth.

I'm playing SS regardless, but I prefer reading:

Skyward Sword is a great game and we recommend it, but it's very linear and there's a lot of backtracking involved. We don't like it when other games do this so Zelda isn't going to get a pass, either. Points deducted.

Versus,

Skyward Sword is a giddying trip into a Hyrule borne anew. Vibrant quests require you return to older areas and Skyloft is kinda sparse but GRANDEUR! FLOURISHING COLOR! SWEEPING OPULENT BEAUTY! Zelda makes it all feel like new!"

Why are we comparing the desert to the desert now? I was talking about the field in which the horseback fight took place in order to compare equally "barren" landscapes. If we are going to talk about the desert in TP, then you missed at least two grottos, a few heart pieces which required at least semi-elaborate puzzles, the "fort", the place where you find the pages in the book, plus the bugs and ghosts. It's not true that there isn't anywhere to climb or look in. There are several hookshot "puzzles" and a few hidden alcoves if you look hard enough. Anyway, my original point was that the game facilitated a good sense of exploration; there is stuff there if you look, but not too much to give it away easily.

IGN's is filled with that kind of shit. Hard to take seriously.

The Temple of Time
. Currently looking for an alternate way in. This game is living up to the hype thus far, although it's still extremely linear.

Well, it makes totally sense.

Motion based sword fighting has been on the top list of most wanted on the Wii. And combat in Zelda was in need of added life.

In essence, SS does what TP failed to and was, imho deservedly, critized for: making motion control feel integrated and adding to the overall experience, rather than detracting from it

Ghirahim mostly sits around and talks in this game. He does a few "bad things" as you've seen (some mentioned in passing that you don't see, either), but he's more of a menace than a terrifying villain. He lacks the presence that Zant had in Twilight Princess. Zant invaded Hyrule, had his minions kill people, forced Zelda to make a difficult decision and then still subjected the kingdom to the possibility of eternal darkness and despair, almost kills Midna and throws you aside like a rag doll - among several other things. Yes, he commits character suicide in the end, but up until that point, Zant was what I wanted in a Zelda villain. He seemed even more imposing than Ganon.

And to be fair, the crux of that "he doesn't do anything" point was mostly taken from another reviewer who I was talking with (but I do agree with their stance). I mainly found Ghirahim a weak character because he was just so shallow. I could suspend disbelief mostly that he was wreaking havoc around the land and, in the past possibly, was a feared demon as mentioned in the prologue (it says he and others murdered without hesitation). The problem is I'm still being told what he has done most of the time. I want to experience/see more of this stuff. I mean, I laughed at some of the stuff he says and his body language at time. Wait till you see what he says later on...what a weird batch of dialogue that was.
 
What do the reviews say about the difficulty of the game?

Recent Zeldas have been far too easy and the games suffer as a result.
