Perhaps they should actually put the names of the reviewers at the end of the reviews, then.

Or they can you know, decide not to. It still shouldn't make you feel like the reviews were done by a robot.

One nice feature Edge themselves did a while back was an issue-wide feature on reviews and the effects they can have (the centrepiece being that there were no review scores on any of the reviews in that issue; all the review scores were bundled into a sidebox at the end of the issue.) Ultimately, their point was that reviews should not be boiled down to a score, and that people should read the *text* to form an opinion. The scores only quantify one person's opinion of the game; the text indicates *how* they came to that opinion and so a reader can see if they agree with the logic or not.
But on the other hand, today they published a score and withheld the text...

Edge is ok for what it is. It's not far and away better than other gaming journalism outlets, in my opinion. I'll grant their prose is much better than most of their competition. Their methodology? Ehh, not so much.

I'm looking forward to Skyward Sword.

They gave the GBA version a 4. They gave the DC version an 8. He searched some database for "Jet Grind Radio" not knowing that the DC version is called "Jet Set Radio" everywhere else in the world except North America.

The LittleBigPlanet score is also their score for the PSP version, not the PS3 version, which they gave a 10.

And I'm guessing his God of War "3" getting a 7 was that they gave a 7 to Chains of Olympus. They gave an 8 to God of War 3.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.

Wooooooooooooow. Ex-po-sed!

He just corrected the score to a well deserved 6 (rating the platformer gameplay, not the editor here).

In regards to the Dead Island score, a 3 from EGDE is like a 6 from anybody else. 3 represents slightly below average, and every other media outlet uses 6-7 below average 7-8 average 8-9 good 9-9.9 great 10 superb

This thread has it all. Trolls, fanboys, bitter tears, and ownage. I love it.

I eagerly await the review that has the lowest rating for continued lols.

I like your upgraded avatar, it suits you well.

I don't agree with Edge reviews lots of time, I also think they're a lot of times very very personal, it's like if they put me to review sport games (genre I don't like a bit), no game would get more than a 5 / 10 from me. This is bad? I think it's other way to review, not very usual today but simply other way. Also I have to say that my brothers were subscribed a lot of years (since practically the first issue) until the big arrivals of the internets, and IMO Edge reviewers are very fans of 1) Nintendo and 2) innovation. I'm not going to say they're biased, because they don't hide it a bit. You read reviews and with some Sony or Microsoft or whatever company games they punish a lot the sequels without innovation (they're some exceptions, like Halo, but thats because Edge loves Halo, personal tastes here again), and with Nintendo they usually don't remark so hard those issues.

So at the end you have to know Edge tastes and read (very important!) their reviews. They're not an objective reviewer IMO, but at least as I said they don't hide it a bit.

And of course, EDGE 10/10 perfect score game means that unless you hate that genre/style, its a very good game :).

love Edge reviews. they're obviously the subjective view of the reviewer to some extent, but i kind-of *want* that. they often talk about the tone of a game, and what the play-experience is like, which i find lacking in lots of reviews (graphics. story. gameplay. etc.) they also have a very high regard for "innovation" and will criticize otherwise really well-put-together games for perceived deficiencies on that front... i get that, though it's not entirely fair either.

i sure hope nintendo is serious about supporting the remote for wiiu where it makes sense... nifty piece of massively underutilized tech, that is.

and i feel a grand adventure in my future...

Impressive score. Edge said that the next issue doesn't come out until October 25th so we'll have to wait to see the full review.

lol it's pretty weird hearing trailer music in a zelda game.

The revealed the score to hype the magazine. That's it. They withheld the text because they wan't you to buy the magazine. There's not emphasis of score over the actual copy here, just publicity.
