Skyward Sword review thread [Newest Reviews - Cubed3 10/10, GC: A, AusGamers: 7/10]

i'm expecting mario to be so short that i'll beat it in time for rayman, which will last just long enough to carry me through to zelda, which i'll never finish because of work.

Can't wait to come back tomorrow morning as GAF exploded because of Zelda reviews, either because of high 9s & 10s, or because of that one single 8.

Quick question, the 25th Anniversary CD it's been leaked already? I believed that it was going to be releases with the game :/
Supposedly the guy who leaked it won't leak the game. Supposedly.

Should we steer clear of the OT if we want to avoid spoilers? Or will it be like this thread where generally we try and avoid them?

Oh, thanks!..

I was trying to check if there was any updates about that.

I'm just going to buy a NWii just for this game (+ to be able to play Mario Kart with my gf)

Wouldn't surprise me if he wants to wait until just before the game is out to minimize the off-top discussion and review whining.

He said before being corrected over the 7 days limit that we was gonna post it last Sunday. So he should be posting it soon.

My friend who was originally going to go to sleep after acquiring Skyrim had a change of heart once the game entered his hands. He's only two floors below me, so I'm going to go watch him play until he clocks out. It should pass the time until the reviews.

I couldn't give two shits about the scores. The game is great; that much we already know. And I'm a Zelda fan, so I'll totally play it. I'm just looking forward to reading more about the game. Really interested to hear how they handled the dungeons and enemies (to accommodate the motion controls), specifically.

Yes :), but knowing that there wont be another console Zelda for a few years always gets to me after I beat it :(

Imagine the wait for Zelda Wii U.

But at least we'll have a Zelda 3DS (and maybe a remake of Majora's Mask) to wait. :)

Oh, the embargo ends at midnight Pacific.

How deflating. I was expecting to come back to find RUINS, but the bomb hasn't even set off yet.

Hey guys, before I probably tell several of you that I will devour your first-borns by eating them out of a pot that's over an open fire in a delicious stew, I just wanted you all to know that while we were all partially sane, it's been real fun. This is my first major Zelda launch with GAF, so I just thought you should all know I like you, no matter how much we're going to try and stab each other soon.

"There are none alive who remember when the bombas dropped so long ago. Or why."

Most companies only let good reviews out before the embargo.

I'm not saying anything but I expect a bunch of "overrated" and 6.2's tonight.

Just because I'm bored, drunk, and currently playing through a Zelda game at the moment, I feel like listing the strengths and weaknesses of each Zelda game in the series. Hope I don't offend!

Zelda I:
+ Amazing sense of adventure
+ Great difficulty
+ Items are used often and mostly together in dungeons
+ Great music

- Too vague on dungeon locations
- Rupee system fucked up
- Not enough bomb slots

Zelda II
+ The best music of the NES period
+ Great change-up of gameplay
+ RPG elements continues to make the game fresh
+ Downstab

- Loses the sense of adventure found in the first game
- Entirely too difficult
- Random-esque battles
- Somewhat crappy sprites for the time

ALttP:
+ A perfect evolution of the first game's premise and gameplay
+ Wonderfully colorful sprites

+ Long and dense

- Dungeons aren't designed particularly well, at lease towards the end

- Occasional poor plot direction

LA:
+ Absolutely wonderful and unique gameplay design
+ Amazing music
+ The best dungeon design to date of its release
+ Jam-packed overworld

+ Some of the catchiest melodies the series has to offer
+ The series' best plot yet
+ Time travel
+ Epona!
+ Open field introduces exploration in 3D

+ Great boss battles

- Too easy
- Starts slow
- Rupees become insignificant once your in the adult time

MM:
+ The series' best art direction ever
+ Sidequests galore
+ NPC interaction
+ Wonderful dungeons
+ Masks
+ Unique music
+ Groundhog Day-esque design

- Time limit
- Bank system
- Saving

OoA/OoS:
+ Best 2D dungeons of the series
+ Wondeful music and sprite design
+ Great sidequests
