from one drunk zelda fan to another

I RAGED

OoT starts slow as fucking balls. It doesnt start picking up until you go into Dodongo's Cavern

With regards to MM, I actually don't mind the time limit by itself, but it provided a bit too many restrictions and stresses for gathering upgrades I wanted (gilded sword most notably). And saving bugged me simply because I like to quiet whenever I want. I know SS will do sort of the same thing, but whatevs.

WW was ahead of LoZ until the Triforce quest

Not sure what you mean. Slow as in boring? Cause you get the sword and shield pretty fast, and enter your first dungeon pretty fast. I've never seen anyone successfully criticize OOT's pacing.

Honestly it sounds better. It would be like "fuck it, let's hit the high seas and see where we end up" instead of "oh god I need to go the other way, time to watch snake eyes Link conduct the same diddy he did the 290 other times I needed to change the wind"
I just rode the wind in diagonally like a pro instead of changing it once I got close.

The sailing did take too much time and adjusting wind was a pain, but

The first time it starts storming and rain is bucking the ship up and you turn the camera to see Link squinting in determination as he holds the rudder for the boat...that was one of the moments of "adventure" I love about the series.

Holy eff people like Majora more than Link to the Past? Shit that is sad... then again, I'm sure the Majora lovers think I'm sad, so we're all just a bunch of sad people.

one time I got mad and jumped out of the boat and just fucking broke for shore.

i hope the next zelda game has an even bigger ocean and there's no warps and you can't even change the wind you just have to wait for it to change or use clever navigation

it'd own so hard and the Bad Zelda Fans would all be owned
Astrological navigation will save the franchise.

Skyward Sword really is an awesome game, one that will no doubt do well critically and commercially for Nintendo. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what the rest of the outlets think of it and of course the gaming community. Another 10 days and one more GOTY contender gets added to the list for 2011.

Wow Jimmy really didn't seem to know what he was doing lol. He was getting destroyed and didn't even seem to know how to lock on till Reggie told him how.

I did this some time ago, but

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons

I never did play enough of the NES games to form an opinion on them, and I don't consider the Four Swords games canon, so I did not list them here.
Spirit Tracks is God awful, and I don't believe it to be a part of the series, which is why it's not there.

Yeah, boring. The beginning hasn't aged well at fucking all. It's wayyyy to simple, the dialogue windows go buy unbearably slow, and shit's just too easy. At least Wind Waker gave you your shit almost immediately and put you on your adventure within 15 minutes. OoT has you going through crappy dialogue and shitty first-dungeons to get to Hyrule field, and even then its a long-ass tutorial.

Reggie must be happy, then, considering what happened last time.

Not sure if that will help or hurt sales, though.

Shit was funny. Plus the Link/ Epona statue they made for him wad dope. Can't believe they made that shit for him. Does he really need that lol

Yep, I'm with DeathbyVolcano on this one. OoT is great but it starts out horribly slow.

Hmm, fair enough.

Twilight Princess has made me appreciate OOT's intro much, much more.

It's amusing, he's such a hardcore gamer and all but every time he does one of those demos on his shows he acts like he's played about as many games as Jack Thompson.

Does he do that on purpose?

Definitely. I wouldn't say that start is bad, per se, but when you compare pre-Jabu-Jabu and post-Jabu-Jabu, the difference is really stark. This is as someone who only recently played and completed the game, for the record.

Playing a game in front of an audience is actually pretty difficult. It's why I (sometimes) don't give too much shit to the Giant Bomb guys, because it's totally different from playing the game yourself.

What puts WW ahead for you? Honest questio.

I truly LOVE the games from MM to FSA in my rankings, so its all sorta relative for me
I had the most fun with it and I love the art, the music, the dungeon designs, everything.
I literally never stopped smiling playing that game the first time. I looked like a goober.

Wind Waker forces you to get the telescope, find Tetra, watch the goodbye cutscene, complete the training drills in the pirate ship, do a massive stealth section, explore windfall island to get a sail, sail across to dragon roost, talk to medli and then finally enter the cave to begin the first dungeon.

OoT makes you collect your sword and shield, talk to the great deku tree and you're in the first dungeon.

Yep, TP didn't start until you started controlling Wolf Link.

I'm sure it's absolutely different, different circumstances and all, but as a talkshow host he shouldn't really have those nerves like that if he's genuine, it's just the way he behaves I guess. Maybe he is good he's just acting that way for the audience or something.

Yeah, this.

Twilight Princess' beginning was worse than most Gameloft games.

i sadly never made it past the intro :(

it remains the one zelda game i will never play because of that terrible intro

He could be a wannabe rockstar.

I am sure in the studio they are chill when jamming but once they see the lights and the crowd, they are full on spastic drastic.

You should play it, the dungeons are really strong.

The end sucks but the middle is some of the best stuff of the entire series.

I enjoyed the pacing of OOt. You start out in Kokiri forest just doing whatever and then shit goes south in a hurry. This works well for the story and to set up the adventure. there's nothing wrong with it. I also liked TP's pacing up until the teardrop collecting, which was tedious boring shit. After that it got exponentially better before blowing my face clean off and requiring extensive plastic surgery.

Before this thread I honestly didn't care about reviews enough to look forward to them.

Yet here I am counting down the hours. This thread has changed me..
