Took me awhile to find this, but I think TSA's summary below is a very insightful analysis of the game. I think it helps to have one's expectations in check.
I don't want to discredit his post, but when years of reading Zelda threads on GAF taught me something it is that I fundamentally disagree with TSA's opinion of Zelda games.

Surprisingly, not that big. You would think the meltdown would be epic with so many 8's accross the board. I mean, remember the good old days, when people went bashit insane because of a respectable 8.8?

Are Zelda fans finally growing up?

Okay, this got me hyped:

Of course, that's not the only way Skyward Sword gives you a more direct link to Link. Motion Plus, the improved motion control available as an add-on or in the newer Wii Remote Plus controllers, is as integral to this game as the analogue stick was to Mario 64.

I need it. Now.

I went to bed before I could see the only last review I cared about.

Eurogamer 10/10? WELL ALRIGHT THEN.

EDGE = 10/10
Eurogamer = 10/10
Wired = 10/10 (mostly just have really similar taste with chris kholer)

Really the only ones I cared about.

TP was pretty crazy if you think about it. The Ganon twist, as abrupt and seemingly out of place as it was, still get points for completing throwing you for a loop.

There was also a lot of interesting stuff at the micro-level that people forget.

TP's actual story was a bagful of meh, but midna was such a fantastic character. She's probably my favorite npc in a zelda game. I mean I literally got physically angry during that sequence when ganon first appears on hyrule field at the end of the game. Even though I knew it was just a game and that nintendo would never actually
kill midna
, I was PISSED and wanted revenge.

Aren't Zelda fans some of the oldest in gaming?

Yoshifish word-by-word translation:

"So yeah Zelda? Masterful, umad, time. 3.8/10"

Damn, I need to work on my translation page.

Seriously, the 20th can't come soon enough. I hope I can get my hands on it before that though, fingers crossed my game store breaks street date!

OK, so by my calculations, the UK critic average is currently 98

I feel sorry for you guys in the US and mainland europe, our Skyward Sword is better than yours.
Sucks to be you guys.

TP's ending was great in general. People like to talk about WW's ending, but TP had the true best ending of the series.

Also, dat credits music.

More like Zelda fans are afraid of the ban hammer.

So, basically.
Almost the most famous firms say "MASTERPIECE!!!"
Almost all the others, included ones with precedent bias with Motion controls say "Good, very good, but not excellent"

So strange XD

If the uncharted situation didn't happen, would the zelda reactions be different?

Maybe, what Monolith did for the game is region locked, so only European can play the part of the game developed by them... and that part is like Heaven.

It's either you are with the Wii motion plus or not I guess.

TP was a great great game.
However WW was such a fresh take on the series that I loved it the most.

WW had the best Ganon. And while I don't think it had the "best link," WW link was also the best foil to ganon out of any zelda game.

Personally I think TP's greatest flaw is that it just tries way too hard to "beat" OoT.

We got the beta version. That's why it's being released here first. You guys are so lucky, to get Xenoblade and the final Zelda build. :(

The Uncharted 3 review thread?

I honestly think Zelda fans learned how ridiculous review meltdowns can be from the Uncharted fans and it has helped keep this thread sane. It is kind of like looking in the mirror.

It's weird, I've always thought that the big Zelda fanbase is in EU and the Mario fanbase is in US... switched rolls this generation?

Yeah, obviously all those reviews under 9 shouldn't be considered or counted anyway.

Hard to say, but I think Zelda fans were already tempered by Twilight Princess' review scores and pretty much all Wii fans already realized that reviewers were going to pan this game off the bat for being SD and having motion controls.
Uncharted fans pretty much expected U3 to blow away even the second game and were shocked when it actually did not. Then the 6/10 and 4/10 sent them into a frenzy.
Much different situation.

That's a good question. Maybe people realised how ridiculous that was, trying to refrain their most latent urges now.

So that's where the Dark Souls and Skyrim re-skinned Zelda demands are coming from.

Dark/Demon Souls in some respects feels a lot like the original Zelda. Open, non-linear game structure with cryptic secrets and stuff that are almost impossible to figure out on your own. The first Zelda frankly was way ahead of its time and the franchise has never bothered to revisit it. That this Zelda is apparently the most linear yet with almost no exploration at all is disappointing.

Someone should start a "what Zelda can learn from Zelda" thread...

Naaah, I'm only saying it's really strange to see such a great departure between most famous / known firms and the others.
It doesn't happen normally.

Wow, I love Eurogamer's new font. Which font is that?
Flatteries because of the 10/10 :D I love it!

People forget that that was also the era where manuals told you how to do half the game and Nintendo Power was as much about selling to confused kids as it was ones hoping to get a peek at this mysterious "Mario Two"
