Smash Bros. gives Zero Suit Samus skimpy new outfit; Sakurai thanks "female designer"

Obviously the only reason a woman shows skin is to be sexually appealing.
Theres no other logic that is valid.

In sane land; why are people now saying we need a shirtless male? These are not sexual.
You're right, that costume is purely functional. Look at Samus, all comfortable and sporty in her revealing outfit. What a go-getter!

Well, I'd prefer a more flattering type of underwear, but if we're going for previous game precedence.

If not, then ERRBODY (that's hot) IN SPEEDOS.
Hmm yeah, now that Ike is hunkier than ever I think some stylish beachwear is in order.

Well... then... I guess my character selection's locked in.

As someone who is ZSS-main, huge Metroid fan and lover of alternate costumes (oh how I love you Tekken Tag 2 so much) this is great. It's a nice callback to past games.

In a lot of ways it's less sexual that. The ZSS being basically sportswear as opposed to a skintight suit. It could have been the NES leotard too.

As for the boots they're a part of her moveset. At least Sakurai made the heels useful now. I like the idea of rocket boots aiding in Samus' Chozo agility. Obviously without her armor this would be a focus.

I tried searching Miiverse for this post. I want to Yeah it so much.

Captain Falcon's as straight as they come. You may right about Ike though.

Straight toward the giant D, sure.

(I actually have no idea if Falcon has shown romantic interest in anymore, male or female. But I'm claiming him for #TeamGay in the interim.)

Between Blood Falcon's laundromat incident, Captain Falcon's splitting boxers, Octoman posing in a muscle-man contest, and other displays of bulging muscles (spandex-clad Black Shadow, etc), I think I know what the "G" in "GX" stands for...

Oh Nintendo

Not that there's anything wrong with that

Time for some image training to fix your perverted mind.

Attention: Women are known to sometimes workout in sports bras and shorts, and not XXL baggy potato sacks as some people here would like to believe.

Looks great to me, and throwing it back to the GBA Metroid games is some good stuff.

Tbh I don't know either.

Anyone wanna watch that horrible anime and find out?

On topic: I legitimately hope this doesn't cause too much of a ruckas.

Bleh.

Only some real beefcake will balance the scale, and Sakurai better deliver. I was totally cool with Smash being relatively free from this type of thing, but he's opened the floodgates now.

or what? you take shirtless beefy mario/luigi and you'll like it

Did you just call the anime bad? I'll have you know the F-Zero anime is the greatest creation since
the kirby anime
Also the only thing Captain Falcon has a burning passion for in the anime is justice and destroying the galaxy.

Weird, but in comparison I have more of an issue with Zero Suit Samus although she's showing far less skin than this one.

The Hotpants/Shorts are short, but they are trousers in the end. I guess that's what cinches it for me, subconsciously.

It's not a case of Justin Bailey not being in the Japanese version, it's a case of it not being a proper code. The Metroid password system can allow false passwords which result in a variety of things and Justin Bailey just happened to be one that got popular because it is easy to remember. You're better off hoping for her proper zero suit outfit from the first game: brunette with pink outfit.

This suit variant has the shape of a sports bra, but it's allowing the breasts to protrude like the loosest of bikinis or lingerie. This is a fan service suit.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, mind you, but let's not pretend otherwise.

Too bad it didn't get a dub with Spanish Goroh.

The return of Brinstar in the 3DS version is discouraging for a few reasons.

  • Brinstar has been in every Smash Bros game; Planet Zebes in the first game was basically the same stage.
  • The version of Brinstar from Super Metroid, often considered the best Metroid game or among the best, looked nothing like the stage in Smash or the later Brinstar Depths stage.
  • There has been a lack of stage variety in general for Metroid, with every stage except Frigate Orpheon containing some form of lava or acid and every stage taking place in an interior environment. The Metroid series has a variety of environments from snowy mountains to murky waters to cities in the sky, so bringing back the acid cave again feels even more tired.
  • I want to see new interesting Metroid stages, and if the only new Metroid stage is the ugly and bland lava-filled Pyrosphere from Metroid Other M, I'll be very disappointed.

It's not like mentioning that a woman designer worked on the costumes will do that much to deter outrage.

Well they had to do something because you can't get away with "this is a callback to a decade old game and also something you can probably see by looking out your nearest window at someone jogging by right this minute" anymore without somebody starting an online petition or some shit.

Okay? I'm aware. What does that have to do with what I said?
Perhaps I misinterpreted what you said.

I just think it's weird that as soon as something like this happens, a lot of comments are along the lines of "wait until tumblr gets a load of this", indicating it's some hive mind.

men and women are also known to walk around naked =P

Any outfit referencing a game is a fan service suit. This whole game is fan service.

Did they actually have to do something? Will the thing they chose to do actually be useful in stopping people from doing the things you say they will do?

I think it looks great.

My wife wears stuff close to that around the house. Should I berate her for being sexist or a gender traitor or something GAF? I am confused. Please guide me.

Sakurai's comment is a waste of breath. I imagine the concept of a female Japanese dev does not fit the world view of Kotaku and their ilk.

I can see the headline now: "Nintendo Should Stop Letting 13-Year Old Boys Design Their Fem..., what? A who? No, no, that doesn't...Are you sure? Can we just accuse anyone who's not mad at this of being pedophiles again?"
