Smash pedigree + the Bulbasaur line's eternal relevance as timeless starters that you could even choose in X and Y = Ivysaur is still relevant.

And as DLC, any and all Pokemon would sell like hotcakes. Nintendo is literally leaving money on the table if they don't repackage Pichu, Squirtle and Ivysaur for this game.

Not saying it'll happen, but I'm just pointing out it's guaranteed $$$ when it comes to Pokemon characters.

I agree! Though I think charizard represents gen 1 and x/y alright, so does mewtwo! And jigglypuff too!

Based on how many pokemon are already in the game, I think other characters should have more priority over even *more* pokemen. If they decide to do a big pokemon wave as the last set of dlc characters, I won't really mind. Id rather see K. Rool or something first.

The notion that Dixie would be a clone of Diddy is absurd.

I have no doubt that Sakurai would make her very distinct.

It's because a few Brawl mods do it by replacing Diddy with Dixie and having her hair work like his tail, but it just feels off and I doubt Sakurai would do that. Dixie has her own style, abilities, and flair that wouldn't quite work---I can't really imagine her doing Diddy's stretchy-arm punches, or doing the face-grab.

I think Dixie should be somewhat similar to Diddy like Luigi and Wolf, but there's enough room to do a lot with her to differentiate. I just hope Sakurai goes with more the Rare personality, as I find the Retro version a bit dull. I mean I'm happy she's back, but her and Cranky definitely sort of were neutered. On the other hand, I actually like Retro's take on Donkey Kong as sort of a bumbling dad (whereas Rare's felt like more a rebellious young adult, I sort of like how perhaps Retro's take is expressing how he's aged) and wish the Smash Version borrowed more from that rather than the weird semi-realistic ape.

All that being said, I'm loving this shit. I have Mewtwo (SO GOOD), and Lucas is on the way. I'm interested to see Roy again. I'm thrilled about Ryu. I'd like to see Wolf. I'd love to see Snake (but don't expect him). Everything is gravy at this point, really.

Has there been reason to think Roy, Ryu and Wolf are coming back, or are those just your wish list?

I thought he wanted to take the banana horde so that the Kongs would starve. Then he could take over. ...For whatever reason he does that.

The reason Ivysaur was in over Venusaur and Bulbasaur is that it allows Pokemon Trainer to have Pokemon of all three evolution stages. Apparently Sakurai was considering having Blastoise or Venusaur playable at some point.

Has there been reason to think Roy, Ryu and Wolf are coming back, or are those just your wish list?

Roy yes, hacking has found files related to him in the latest patch. Ryu as well, though he wouldn't "coming back". Wolf no.

Didn't you hear, there was data found in the 3DS version post-patch that seemed to be placeholder files for Roy and Ryu's victory themes.

This would make sense... if we could actually switch between them mid-battle.

As it stands, the Pokemon you -don't- choose on the Character Select Screen are left there -- not unlike leaving them in a PC.

Roy and Ryu are in development. Multiple trusted data-miners have found a new folder in the 3DS update data, with files for victory jingles for Roy and Ryu (and Lucas). There's even a file for stage music for a SSFII stage, containing Ryu's Theme.

Yeah, I really don't think Mewtwo will be the only Pokemon DLC we get since the series is so ripe.

Hawlucha is really one I want the most, since it'd go quite well in Smash and seems to be enjoying popularity in the show too. I think this is sort of its chance, because by Smash 5 it won't have the benefit of being a New Pokemon anymore.

I imagine Squirtle and Pichu are the only Pokemon that have the potential to be DLC.

Is that why K. Rool steals bananas? Odd. I had heard it was the other way around, that he was just a croc who loved bananas. Hence why he was so fat.

He stole the bananas because he heard of a secret ritual to raise an army of tiki demons that are fueled by bananas.

When that didn't work, he told some sailors a tale of the mighty crystal coconut of the DK Isles, that would grant immortality to the person who owned the islands.

When that didn't work, he sat and thought of a plan. This time he was going to have to get his own hands dirty and return to the land he hated so much, and yet, found the need to rule.

Makes you think, doesn't it.

When I played Donkey Kong Country as a kid, the nipples on Klump, as well as the fact he wore a helmet and his animation made him look like he was skating, led me for years to believe he was meant to be a Roller Derby girl.

Whooa. This is awesome. I love hearing/seeing stuff like this. Makes you wonder how things would have been if the were included from the very beginning.

I imagine the Final Smash implementation for clones might've been a bit more natural, and we wouldn't have ended up with LANDMASTER X 3.

I wonder what Donkey Kong would have Smash 64 since Donkey Konga didn't exist then? Him and Pikachu (Volt Tackle) are the only 64 characters whose Final Smash references an ability created post-Smash 64, well, Luigi if you count his new FS in Smash 4 and not the completely original Negative Zone.

I think with a Smash Redesign, they'd ditch his flimsy superman halloween costume cape and go with something more like this
il_fullxfull.91410381.jpg

I base this on Dedede's Brawl redesign, which made him more regal and emperor-like.

Plus add some jewels to his crown and bracers, add some rings to his fingers. For extra goofiness, maybe make one of his back teeth gold. Make him more muscular, give him a more alligator like mouth (visible jaw muscles), tail and back fin/spikes. Make his wonky eye kind of lazy, have it not move properly when he emotes. Hunch him over a bit, play with him being hideous by design, but make it work and make it not seem so dated and 90s. Give him a roman armor skirt, or some kind of lower body armor to break up his huge green body. Give him longer and more muscular legs. Make his hand large and claw-like, add some webbing to them.

Make him feral like Wolf, with slashes and bites, but also make him goofy like Wario or Dedede.

Yes, this ignores stuff like Captain KRool, and his other appearances. No Blunderbuss, nothing like that. Ignore his 90s origins. Pretend he's a new character entirely, except for stuff like throwing his crown.

An obvious jab is his boxing from 64. Except don't do that. No, his jabs are now two slashes and a bite. What's a blunderbuss? No, this K Rool left that life behind. He's a new, modern croc.

Up Special: K. Rool Copter. Taking cues from his rival, DK sticks him arms and tail out and spins rapidly.

Neutral Special: Just kidding about the blunderbuss. Charges up a pirate gun and launches cannon balls. You could say this was cloned from Bowser Jr. But don't say that.

Side Special: Crown toss. He chucks his crown forward, pointy side first. Flies further when smash thrown, like super missiles or Mii's chakram.

Down Special: Klap Trap Toss: Puts down a klap trap (DK64 style) that walks back and forth. If it hits an enemy, it springs up and latches on and does damage over time until it's knocked off. Pikmin + Mecha-Koopa.

His normals are a mix of savage croc slashes, bites and tail slams. Combined with obnoxious body slams, punches, and stuff like tripping or accidentally rolling into people.

Avoid making him too goofy without losing who K. Rool is. Ignore stuff that makes no sense or is dated, leaving the memorable, timeless aspects of the character.

K Rool is going to be a big redesign they'll need to do to make it work. But I think it could work, and could work really well. It could potentially re-invent the character and bring him back if they do it right and try not to stick too much to the 90s. K Rool just isn't going to be able to be super accurate to himself, since himself is lame and outdated and desperately needs a redo.

Mario Super Sluggers had K. Rool wearing a weird tribal outfit, as if he'd gone native following his defeat. It was pretty ugly, but I think it'd be cool to see that look tried better by Retro.

Of course, I'd love to see K. Rool return as a Ring Master with Donkey Kong Country Returns 3 being an expansion on Krazy Kremland...

Although, I'd also love it if Retro introduce Queen K. Rool in Returns 3, only for the end of the game to reveal it was K. Rool in a wig the entire time.

Banana juice?

My dream DKCR3 would have K. Rool and the Kremlings kidnapping all of the Animal Buddies on DK Island, and whisking them off to an amusement park. The bulk of them would be imprisoned in a zoo in the final world, where they're forced to entertain the Kremlings. But you'd find Animal Buddies, here and there, in the other worlds, which would include a resort town, casinos, and of course fairgrounds with rollercoasters. Essentially Krazy Kremland expanded into a full game.

You'd stampede on Rambi, but also blast through underwater obstacles as Enguarde, scurry across makeshift platforms as Squitter, and more. And in the last world, all hell breaks loose as you liberate the animals (including Squiddicus, the angry octopus from DKCR and TF), who quickly turn against their Kremling captors. K. Rool would be a ringmaster in a circus at the center of the zoo.

Someone on Reddit asked if STEAM had been datamined to find Roy Amiibo information.

Anyone know? Kind of a minor release to be datamined, but with Smash DLC hype at maximum levels, maybe someone bothered to do it.

K. Rool was just designed to look like a corrupt and corpulent ruler. Hence he looks well-fed, given to a life of excess. That's not saying that all heavy-set people come off that way. Of course not. It's just that when combined with the role of an evil king, it evokes the trope of the despot ruler who has everything and wants even more.

The real question is why K. Rool wants a banana horde!

This is a great idea. Karnie K. Rool needs to happen. Many people have also been advocating for Kosmic K. Rool. Whatever happened to that secret moon world that was cut from Tropical Freeze? It's also worth noting that a picture of the moon can be found in Hideout Helm in Donkey Kong 64, suggesting that the Kremlings were planning to blow it up. Retro made three Metroid Prime games, so I don't think a third DKC game is out of the question. The trilogy needs to be kompleted.

This is the Rocket Barrel theme remixed for a potential Kremland level. The guy who composed it on DK Vine suggested a barrel level inside a circus tent where you're dodging Kremlings on trapezes who fire cannonballs at you.

At the end of Donkey Kong Returns 3, Ring Master K. Rool escapes to the moon...

Once Donkey Kong arrives, the broken pieces of Tiki Tong appear and wrap themself around K. Rool as they merge with his body turning him into Tiki King K. Rool!

Personally I'm hoping for Emperor K.Rool where the Kremlings all employ eastern inspired outfits and weaponry and the final world has you storm Emperor K.Rool's fancy palace.
Really I just want to see what sort of environments we'd get whipped up for a game under this theme.
But Karnie K.Rool is a close second.

Don't know if anyone knows how to use Photoshop in this thread, but I was wondering if someone could modify Ryce's roster below (I already asked him, but he lost the template he used):

I want to see what it looks like with these changes:

- Captain Toad after Yoshi in first row, and K. Rool after Dixie Kong
- Remove Toon Zelda from second row; add Duck Hunt before R.O.B.; and replace C. Falcon with Little Mac
- Replace Chorus Kids with C. Falcon in third row
- Remove Pichu in fourth row, and add Snake after Sonic

That isn't entirely true for Pikachu. The Japanese name for Volt Tackle is Volteccer. It's taken from Game Freak's Pulseman. As you can see, Pulseman's move resembles Pikachu's Final Smash more than the Pokemon move does. I don't think Sakurai would likely have give Pikachu the move before Game Freak did, but at least the inspiration was there. It's possible.

(The name Volteccer is probably taken from the original '70s Tekkaman anime, while I'm in trivia mode.)

I actually really kind of want Ryu to use his grainy SFII voice. It's kind of charming.

That's part of the reason I'd want a voice pack DLC. You know Ryu's not going to use his old voice, but I'd love the option to turn it on, just like how I'd want Bowser/DK's normal voices or Fox/Falco's Melee voices (Granted, they wouldn't have a line for the Landmaster...).
