Top 5 for me right now...

1. Snake
2. Wolf
3. K. Rool
4. Wonder Red
5. Waluigi

On a slightly different note, Ridley hype has really gone to a weird place huh? I guess after 3 games, people have just accepted his fate. Even me. I don't think I'd even want him to be playable at this point.

I don’t have a #5 (maybe Snake?) — I just really want those four. Ice Climbers would be my #1 if they were technically feasible.

Ok, honest question: What would Mike Jones bring to Smash? I've never heard of him or Startropics before the road to Smash 4 and I don't know anything about this character. What are his powers/moves?

I got this.

Mike comes equipped with an arsenal of items that would make Pit and Link blush. He's typically defined by the Island Star (Yo-Yo for us OGs), a magic/psychic powered flail weapon that changes shape between a standard yo-yo, a mace on a retractable chain dubbed the "Shooting Star" and a funky, lightning energy blasting, white, silver and red yo-yo shaped flail dubbed "The Supernova". The interesting thing about this weapon is that it's shape is maintained/dictated by the level of vitality/focus Mike keeps up during his treks through the dungeons in the game. Beyond this, he has a host of supplemental weaponry including alien ray guns, bolas, slingshots, baseballs, baseball bats, whirling knives that separate into smaller portions, aquatic mines re-purposed for fighting on land (The game was about spelunking a large portion of the tropics and as such a lot of stuff is from ruined ships littered about the areas) and daggers. He also has a large number of magical support items such as anklet sneakers that allow him to float and jump further/higher (think of how the Tanooki tail items work in Smash already), cursed snowmen that freeze entire portions of the map, Mr. Mime style Mirror Shields that reflect enemy fire, and magic staffs that cast a screen wide flash bang stun effect (usually used to reveal hidden paths or enemies).

My personal favorite weapon in the first game (beyond the YoYo itself) is a pair of Cleats that enable god mode wherein Mike leaps into the air and dive kicks EVERYTHING in the area, most of the time for a OHKO. It's so over the top for an NES game. :lol

In the second game, we see him develop more of the psychic abilities he had been using without realizing in the first and he gains a vitality dependent long range energy blast known as the Psychic Shockwave that starts off small and gradually becomes long range pulses. A good bit of the weaponry described above comes back along with a dedicated "projectile melee" weapon that is upgraded as he passes through time starting with a caveman's ax before becoming an Egyptian dagger and ending as Merlin's Sword.

I actually took a shot at making a Mike moveset a few years back before I really got into doing fighting game character design that could give you an idea on what most people expect from the character:

A (Jab - See Forward Pass) - Pitches the plain island star straight forward.

A>A>A Hold (Barrage) - Pitches his Yo-Yo forward in quick succession at varying angles, building up damage similar to Fox's Kicks or Link's old AAA stabs.

Dashing A (Walking the Dog) - Mike runs forward then quickly launches his Yo-Yo forward at a 60 degree angle to the floor. Does average damage but has decent knock back, can KO at high damages if caught in the initial yoyo toss or first few instances of the "Walking The Dog" animation.

Up Tilt - Quickly throws his yo-yo, now resembling the Morning Star upward and makes it rotate, doing damage like Sonic's up smash.

Forward Tilt - Mike pitches the yo-yo in morning star form forward and it rotates in place damaging in a manner similar to his up tilt before retracting back to himself. This damages enemies while keeping then at bay.

Down Tilt - Mike wraps the yo-yo in its morning star form around his leg and does a "Skip It" motion with it gliding along the ground. The end of the yo-yo can meteors in certain situations (i.e. catching an opponent before grabbing the ledge) and the chain can sometimes trip opponents caught in it on the ground. Has a light pop-up effect when hit with the Star part on flat ground.

Forward Smash (Forward Pass) - Mike does a quick & simple forward pass pitch with the Island yo-yo, now donning a Supernova appearance to signify his Smash Attack. Has strong knock back, strong damage and the pull back motion can drag opponents closer to you. The longer you charge, the harder and quicker the hit. The yo-yo animates to reflect this strength (it will start sparking up greater than usual before released).

Up Smash (Around The World) - Mike swings his yo-yo over his head in a wide arc while psychic charging both the chain and Supernova. The greater the charge, the more devastating the effect.

Down Smash - Similar to Ness' downward smash, except Mike's yo-yo darts forward first then back and has a faster motion. Mike does a small hop animation as the yo-yo travels under him. It also retains the the Supernova properties of sparking up due to being a Smash attack. Has a great horizontal knock back and damage.

Neutral Air - Does a somesault with his morning star out and swings it in a sweeping somersault motion. (Think MetaKnight's nair but with the base yo-yo's reach)

Forward Air - CLEATS! More specifically, does a jumping full body kick reminiscent of Mario & Luigi's Forward Air from Smash Bros. 64.

Back Air - Back kick like Fox's Brawl bair using his cleats.

Down Air - A twirling kick much like Mario's old drill kick that racks up moderate damage. The last hit has a weak spike effect.

Grab - Mike just runs up to them and grabs them Yusuke (Yu Yu Hakusho) style.

Grab Attack - Mike casually slings the yoyo at their face while holding them with the other arm.

Back Throw - Mike tosses the character behind him and brings the island yoyo up to swat them away.

Forward Throw - Mike throws the opponent by their shirt forward.

Upward Throw - Mike throws them moderately high then shoots a volley of small psychic flash bombs at them all at once with his slingshot.

Down Throw - Mike jumps on top of them and stomps them (a la Kirby) with his cleats.

B Special (Pitch) - Mike will reach into his pocket and toss a Wonder Horsehide baseball at an opponent. Has minimal to good knock back and damage. When B is held down however, Mike will lob the baseball a small distance upward into the air before catching it again and putting it into his pocket unless it's interacted with via his Forward B (Swing).

Forward B (Swing) - Mike will swing a baseball bat forward. Does moderate knock back. There is also a random chance of him swinging either an ancient caveman's ax or a katana at the opponent. When a pitched baseball is in play, this move will always produce a baseball bat. Using this from his pitch cancels the animation of his standing B into a batter's stance where he can swing at the baseball he pitched upward. This can send the projectile in very different ways forward. When sweet spotted, the intensity of the projectile is dramatically enhanced.

Up B (Anklet Jump) - With wings on his shoes, Mike takes a mighty leap forward with his knee extended creating a pressure effect like Wolf's. Opponents are dealt one solid upward blow instead of being carried though. The wings then flap and keep his forward momentum up for recovery purposes.

Down B (Mirror Palms) - Mike makes a gesture like Mr. Mime in the Pokemon anime and an Aegis Reflector styled barrier that reflects projectiles is put in place in front of himself.

Final Smash: Ultra Psychic Shockwave - Mike tosses a psychic charge forward like a molotov cocktail that explodes with an electrical effect multiple times over a wide area.

Taunts
- Mike jumps in place twice mimicking his NES jumping sprite
- Mike takes out a "Try Your Luck" sign that rotates and reveals either a Smash logo, his series logo or a "+1" after the spin. This is in reference to how Try Your Luck signs in the series were guessing games involving him spinning a sign.
- A sound like someone going "ring ring" is heard and Mike looks for a phone on himself before a thought cloud appears over his head and Mica (the guide for all of StarTropics 2 and princess saved in StarTropics 1) looks at him scramble mischievously.

Edit: No Takamaru Tyeforce? ;__;

Let's hear your dream 5 people for DLC characters.

Well, that's hard since I already got most of my dream characters but I don't mind to see Inkling, Isaac, Takamaru, Dixie/King Rool, Wolf, Chorus Kids, Ice Climbers and Snake.

Edited: I would be okay with Impa if she got moveset from Hyrule Warrior. Top Tier matieral :p

Before the announcement of consistent character DLC, I wanted new stages more than anything else.

I still do. I was upset to not see those announced alongside Mewtwo and Lucas. I feel like those would be so much cheaper and easier to produce, especially if it was a mixture of returning and new stages.

Part of me was sure we would see new stages with returning characters. Lucas returning to a game that otherwise had most of its Mother 3 content scrubbed is sort of sad. He has no place to call home. Same with Toon Link on the Wii U.

I think it's way too early to give up on DLC stages. For all we know, they've been working on them alongside Lucas and Mewtwo and just aren't ready to show/announce them. I would honestly be shocked if DLC stages don't happen at some point.

But I agree with you, I really want them and I'll be very disappointed if they don't. Pirate Ship and Magicant in HD or bust.

Let's hear your dream 5 people for DLC characters.

1. Paper Mario
2. Inkling
3. Wonder Red
4. Geno
5. Isaac

There are about 15 other people I want, but you can only pick 5. gogo!

1. Chorus Kids (or any Rhythm Heaven character, honestly)
2. Shovel Knight
3. Banjo-Kazooie
4. Dixie Kong
5. Impa (Hyrule Warriors-style)

A REALLY close 6th, 7th, and 8th are Shantae, Lana from Hyrule Warriors, and A Link to the Past-style Ganon, the giant pig form with his trident and fire bats.

EDIT: Shit, I forgot about Banjo-Kazooie. Gonna have to amend my list now...

I think we are getting Stage DLC Bundle 1, just like Mii Costume Pack 1.

I feel that K Rool might be getting a bump in the polls from disheartened Ridley fans as well. They've just been bleeded out of Ridley hype and when Sakurai basically dropped the hammer on Ridley, they decided to mourn by voting for a reptilian villain who actually has a shot. I don't think Ridley turning up in the polls on the lower end will make Sakurai think he isn't popular. He's still Top 10 material even after people were already told "NO" on Ridley. If he's going to get in, it's the next game, and he's a big enough sell he could be among the first revealed when the game is revealed.

As for my top 5: baring Ridley who'd easily be my Number 1:

1. King K Rool
2. Banjo Kazooie
3. Impa
4. Shantae
5. Dixie Kong

Not that I think Shantae has a chance in hell especially if she hasn't been released in Japan, but I like the character. Dixie would be a good substitute for K Rool and give the DK series another character in Smash, and she was meant to be in Brawl. Impa using her SS or HW look would be awesome, especially HW look, she wouldn't just be a Shiek clone that way.

The hope lives on for Banjo Kazooie no matter how futile.

But in the end, K Rool is my most desired to add more DK, more villainy, more heavyweight, and more comical. And he has a decent shot over just about anyone, being second in popularity only to Shovel Knight, who's from an indie developer and a Western exclusive, hurting his chances considerably, but I'd call Shovel Knight my number 6.

I personally want Ice Climbers to return, but I'm not sure if that will happen :(

In regards to new characters, I would like Isaac from Golden Sun, Wonder Red, Bayonetta, or Impa. I'm not sure who I want the most though.

Anyway, I was giving it some thought at work. People have been mentioning and sometimes requesting a Boss Battle mode. Sure, it's a lot of work, but I think it opens up so much opportunity to look at Smash in a whole new light. I'm talking playable boss characters. As in, one person plays as a boss, and his opponents are a team of standard fighters. 1-4, with more people causing the boss to scale up in health, defense, and power. Bosses might have a large pool of abilities and hazards but are telegraphed easily and becoming formulaic will lead to your defeat. And think of some of the characters that could be playable bosses:

Giga Bowser (SSB Melee)
Metal Face (Xenoblade)
Beast Ganon (Legend of Zelda)
Ridley (Metroid)
Kraid (Metroid)
Giygas (Earthbound)
Porky (Mother3)
02 (Kirby)
Nightmare (Kirby)
Andross (Starfox)
Hades (Kid Icarus, if he never gets in as a standard fighter)
Emperor Bulborb (Pikmin)
Legendary Pokemon (So many to choose from...)
Eggman (In a large mech no doubt)

Just some that I can throw off the top of my head. A roster of 8-10 of these big bad boys would be amazing if balanced properly. What do you guys think? Dumb idea? Going somewhere?
Include some of the smash originals like master&crazy, duon, and tabuu, and you might be on to something.

did they say how they think to handle the online dlc wise?
will you be able to use the new characters only against people who have the same character too?
or everyone's game will be updated and what you will buy it's just an unlock code?

because if it's the first option, with multiple dlc characters,it would hinder the matchmaking, fragmentating the user base

Oh my god. So much potential.

Mike Jones for Smash DLC?

You know what's really funny? Before I wrote that post (totally off the head too), I never actually thought of just how much stuff he has to implement into a Smash fighter. He only has TWO NES titles and he could do that much. It's amazing. :lol

I'm all for Splatoon, Wonderful 101, NintendoLand, Golden Sun, Mysterious Murasame Castle, and several stages!

Also I would like to have some stages from old games and Smash 3DS. They must bring PokeFloat back. It's perfect for 8 players!

It'll certainly be the second option. They want people to see others playing with DLC characters online so they will want to pay to unlock them as well. It already works that way in MK8 DLC (you can use DLC characters even in the non DLC playlist) so there's no reason to expect it would be any different here.

Hmm...

1. Snake
2. Wolf
3. King K. Rool
4. Dixie
5. Rhythm Heaven Rep

Only other reasonable characters I can think of that I'd like would be Paper Mario, Isaac, and maybe Inklings. Banjo Kazooie, Wonder Red, Chibi-Robo and Takamaru would also be wonderful surprises.

I really really really want a Mysterious Murasame Castle stage as it would no doubt have an amazing look unto itself (I imagine something using a lot of sumi-e ink stylings and another day to night transition stage), but it'd suck getting it without Takamaru himself jumping in.

PokeFloats needs to get more Pokemon in its rotation and come back. It's the one crazy stage everyone loves. :lol

So the question then is how many characters realistically do you all think will be made based off of this poll?

Probably 5 at the absolute upper end. Edit: This is including Mewtwo/Lucas. The strongest runners up will probably get some serious consideration for Smash 5 though.

Around two. They should be working on characters before this closes in October and after that I could see a couple based off the poll.

Just going with four until shown otherwise. It fits the best with both the Wii U and 3DS select screens without making them look jarring.
