SNES. Saturn. Playstation? YOUR CHOCOLATE IS IN MY PEANUT BUTTER.

Indeed, these three mighty consoles of yore have each a wondrous and serviceable controller style. However, if one wishes to throw a shindig and have these differing control pad formats hang out and shoot the breeze together on a Friday night, significant issues arise. Significantly.

I want to use a SNES control pad with my PS2.

I also wish to use a Saturn control pad with my PS2.

And, last but not least, I want to use a PC USB pad on my PS2.

Are there adapters available which can allow these unholy commiserations to take place? None I have been able to find have offered what I look for.

Help.

I think you're drunk off your ass.

I can see the Saturn on PS2...
But why in the world SNES on PS2?
Why Random PC Pad on PS2?

Have you been to Lik-Sang? The PC adaptor is probably the only thing you will not find there, you lush.

ArcadeStickMonk,

In response to your question about a "random PC pad"...I offer this:

I really want to use my PC USB Saturn pad on my PS2.

Yours,
Baron

P.S. - I had checked Play-Asia with no luck, and I just checked Lik-Sang per your suggestion, but all they seem to carry are adapters which allow you to use a myriad of controllers on your PCV, but not the other way around, to use pads on a PS2.

Argh.

P.P.s - No, not drunk. Not yet at least, the day ain't over yet. :D

Ok, but why that instead of an actual Saturn pad? Plus it's obvious that you want six button faces, so why aren't you buying one of those SF:AC controllers right now?

oh god, I recommended a fighter pad. Feeling nauseous... and gassy...

Actually, I would love to use a Saturn pad instead of that PC USB pad, I just figured (wrongly) that adapters allowing the use of USB pads on a PS2 would be more plentiful than enabling old-schoolish Saturn pads.

Plus it's obvious that you want six button faces, so why aren't you buying one of those SF:AC controllers right now?

I think those SF:AC pads are the most horrifyingly gaudy pieces of industrial design I have ever seen. How can they compare to a Saturn pad, anyhow?

Alka Seltzer, sir.

Yeah, but the PS2 has USB ports on it, so why would anybody make an adaptor?

Anyway, I know you can get a Saturn adaptor, and SNES adaptor seems very likely too.

I can't find said adaptors on Lik-Sang or Play Asia before, but I know I've seen em, or at the Saturn adaptor.

Wait...

So, you're saying all I need to do is plug my PC Saturn USB pad into the USB port on the PS2 and it will recognize it and work just fine? That's insane. Prove it.

please please be true

It would be true if more than a scant handful of games even look at the USB ports.

As it is, only specific games look to the usb for specific reasons:

Time Crisis for a light gun
Red Facton 2 for mouse and keyboard
Eye Toy for... the Eye Toy

and in each case those games know what they are supposed to be detecting down there. So, no plugging a PC pad in won't work, I tried it to, years back. I guess they could make an adaptor to make the PS2 think you've got a dual shock, but nobody's clammoring to use their Xterminator Digital in Socom. Besides, you never know how many buttons there are on a PC pad or where they are located.

You are the first to have a legitimate reason for using a PC pad on your PS2, and in your case, that pad happens to really be a Saturn pad. I guess you know what to concentrate on now, huh?

They're releasing a Saturn pad for PS2 soon. It was announced a few weeks ago. You could wait for that. They're also re-releasing the Japanese Virtua Stick.

Shady Hong Kong manufacturers only seem to think that we'd want to use PSX controllers on everything else - not the other way around. They have adaptors for Famicom, Genesis/MarkIII, PC Engine, SNES, last gen's systems, and this gen's systems. It's kind of sick, really. I would have paid good money for a Saturn to PSX adaptor, but since I never found one, I ended up hacking together this contraption. I'll probably end up getting one of the PS2 Saturn pads, and certainly a PS2 Virtua Stick. I love that thing.

That's a nice PCB box you made. You do sticks too?
I hacked a Hori Saturn stick to PSX, so I guess. :) I hate soldering to those PCB pads with a passion, though. I have a few Sanwa buttons sitting around from a Cosmicco order, but I haven't put them in anything yet, and I've never replaced a joystick.

Are there plans on the web for creating such a device? That could prove to be a fun way to spend my weekend.
There's some good information on these pages:

I took the cord out of the Saturn pad and replaced it with a DB15 cable, and it now uses the Neo-Geo controller pinout. The black box has a DB15 connector with the same pinout wired to a Playstation pad's PCB. I didn't feel like messing with encoder ICs and I wanted a pad I could use on my supergun too, so I went with that.

To me the Saturn controller was pretty shitty and the Dual Shock is a direct evolution of the mighty SNES pad so playing with a Dual Shock 2 on PS2 = joy

The Saturn USB pads have been available since August. Most reputable importers carry them.

They are available in 3 colors, too - grey, black, and white, mimicking the colors of their respective Saturn counterparts. I own the grey one, it's very cool. High quality stuff.

So...what's up with the Saturn-style pad for the PS2? Any news on it at this point?

Lordy, people, it was just a play on how similar our forum names are. Bacon apparently didn't care one bit.

BACK ON TOPIC:

Has anyone any news on the PS2 release of the Saturn-style pad mentioned above?
