SNK Playmore today announced its lineup of titles for the Tokyo Game Show, and in doing so let on that there's another Metal Slug game in the works. So far without a final title, it's on its way to PlayStation 2 next spring.

The complete lineup, which also includes a mysterious new Atomiswave arcade project, is as follows:

Arcade

Neo Geo Battle Coliseum (2005)

Game Boy Advance

Metal Slug Advance (Fall 2004)

PlayStation 2

Metal Slug 4 (Fall 2004)
Metal Slug (Temporary title) (Spring 2005)
King of Fighters '94 RE-BOUT (Winter 2004)
King of Fighters 2003 (Fall 2004)
KOF Maximum Impact (On sale now)

Xbox

King of Fighters 2002 (Winter 2004)
Metal Slug 4 (Winter 2004)
SVC Chaos (Fall 2004) Metal Slug 4 and King of Fighters 2003 will see release individually in Japan for PS2 and Xbox, but of course they'll be part of lower-priced bundle packages in North America.

SNK also plans to display numerous titles for Japanese mobile phone platforms, including Gal's Fighters, KOF Volleyball, Joy Joy Kid, and others.

Either it's MS5 or the long since rumored Metal Slug "3D" (gasp).
MS5 was already announced, I doubt that's it. More likely they've licensed Mega Corp's Metal Slug Online (it's 3D btw) and moved development from PC to PS2...

Oh PLEASE God, NO.

Anything's better than the last two MS games. :/ Give it a chance; KOF Maximum Impact turned out to be a great 3D fighter.

Here's Insert Credit's GDC 2004 MS Online info...

I will describe what I saw: there were several animated movies of Marco's in-game motion (very early, of course). He had a running animation, and a punching motion. Both looked fluid, if MMORPG-ish.

There was some nice concept art, with some larger weapons than I have seen in the previous 2D installments.

The engine will be fully 3D; not 2D motion with polygons, but free-range 3D motion. There was an over-the-shoulder shot of Marco in a city environment to corroborate this. About that city -- it was very recognizably Metal Slug in style, so that is a relief. While the buildings had no textures yet, it was a pretty faithful recreation of the ceramic tile-roofed houses from the series. There was also a vehicle; it looked like a Metal Slug tank, but this was difficult to determine. Oddly, it was smaller than Marco himself. Early screens, remember.

Well, except MS Online is being made by the same people who brought us MS4. :/

wow so SCEA keeps canceling or rejecting all these 2d games and yet they are making a new one for PS2?

=/

SNKP doesn't give a shit about western markets, since most of their money is made from Japanese/Asian arcades anyway. It's probably why they'd always give the US branch information and then do something completely different in the end
