... is that as of right now its only simulcast of the latest eps (starting from eps 754 which is PRETTY much the latest).

The CR representative said this on their forum:

For all of you guys who aren't caught up from the beginning, fear not! Case Closed is an anime you can pick up from any point! Definitely give it a try

Which is about as inaccurate statement as one could make about anything.

weird that funimation wasn't the one that picked this up, but i guess the license hasn't really done them any good in the past( you can still find the first 130 eps to stream on their site in dub and sub though)

This is a pretty big moment though. Detective Conan being a show thats legally old enough to smoke as of this year, has had countless amount of fansub groups tackle the series over the years with DCTP being the last big group that put huge efforts to make sure everything was translated, but was put down by funimation in 2012 and the quality of fansubs has been a mix mash of questionable quality missed eps (these eps aren't interesting so we are skipping!) and inconsistent time schedules since.

So yeah its great/surprising to see this show finally officially available for simulcast.

No clue if CR will go through the entire show archive and retranslate or license the one from funimation or something.

Curious if we can finally get more dvd sets too.

I remember loving this show when it was on Adult Swim.

I don't even know up till what episode did Adult Swim air, but I stayed there. I do wonder how they can stretch that plot point for so long though, or did they just forget about it and focus on other things? Did the series get a downgrade in quality or has it maintained itself?

Episode 754? WHAT??? I remember watching the first few on adult swim years ago. It's in the 700s now?

To be fair when it first started airing on Adult Swim in the US it was already at ~350 or so episodes in Japan. It's been going since 1996 with the manga going from 1994.

Either way this is good since they gave the C&D to the people who actually did good subs before like a year ago

Is he still trying to become an adult again, because seriously after 20 years give it up kid.

I haven't been keeping up, but I can imagine the series being pretty easy to get into if you have some basic knowledge of it. From what I read on Wikipedia awhile back, only a few major characters have been added outside of the core crew, and Jimmy/Shinichi isn't any closer to finding out who drugged him than he was 20 years ago.

It'll be fine without the missing holes. Or should I catch up on a couple hundred episodes of pokemon only to find out Ash/Satoshi is in the same place he was in 20 years ago?

Inworld he is a kid for not even year - he is still in first grade. Probably from the same time paradox zone as Ash Ketchum.

its more like the simpsons.

It's neat to track how at the beginning they were using just landline phones, eventually got to pagers, cellphones, cellphones with color displays, modern flip phones, to smartphones.

They also like to introduce w/e the latest in media tech too. I recall their being minidiscs in 1 case.

I know, and that makes it all the more ridiculous because that would mean he's been solving like hundreds of cases in the span of a couple months. I guess he really is the greatest detective.

This show always reminds me of my grandmother, who just loved the series, manga and anime.

She passed away last year :(

so, he dumped his sidekick friends in like 20 minutes IRL?

Yeah, Japans death rate accprding to the series is insane. No wonder the country is dying out when you walk into a murder every other day, no matter the location.

Wait, this was the show about a guy stuck in a child's body?

I had completely forgotten the title. I feel a part of me completed.

The only long running anime I ever caught up to was One Piece, which is like 100 episodes less. I've tried many times to get into Detective Conan but I just can't seem to.

Yeah, I do feel like the overall quality of cases has dropped a bit, too many cases based off wordplay.

But the last few story cases have been quite good... so who knows!

Also the movies are ridiculous.

saw this webm on twitter.

My god those effects are beautiful.

This used to be my favorite anime. It ultimately made me stop watching anime altogether. I tried catching up and after ~140 subbed episodes, I couldn't take it anymore.

This is still going on? Jesus fuck.

I used to watch this religiously when I was a teenager, loved this show.

I forgot when I stopped watching though.

its always a group of 4-5 folks that are friends, but there used to be one more that died an accidental death/suicide.

Than one of the folks dies in a locked room murder. and then its revealed that everyone has motive to kill him.

criminal is caught after conan deduces the most insane pulley lever wire system that lead to the near perfect murder.

criminal cries he's innocent, there is no proof, anyone else could have done it. Conan points out the evidence is still on the guy.

criminal gives up and explains how his murder was justified to avenge their fallen friend who's death really wasn't accidental.

Credits.

The only thing I remember was a will-o-wisp and the case where a guy shot someone at a hotel on new years eve or whatever and he only got caught because he wasn't wearing his watch and Conan figured it out by looking at a picture and saw that he had a tan or some shit.

But hey I need a morning cartoon to eat while I'm getting ready to work so yippee!

It's honestly funny and somewhat depressing just how true this is.

Does that mean over 700 times someone got murdered in the vicinity of that kid?

It's probably closer to 400 after all the multipart episodes...but yeah he's a death magnet.

I dunno about anyone else but I definitely had to check out the newest movie after that webm and this thread. I missed this show so much, it's a bummer that the manga hasn't had a new chapter in like a month.

Hilariously accurate.

I'm a year or two behind on this series, I should catch up sometime.

I wish I had stuck with this post Adult Swim. I really enjoyed it back then and always tried to play along and guess who done it.

How is the statement that it can be picked up at any point inaccurate? I read the manga for like 300 chapters and there was never any real plot development. Conan by the nature of the story can't get close to actually fixing his problem, and every case he takes on is unrelated to the last.

there are enough story and plot episodes that makes it inaccurate, even if its once every 20-30 eps.

The wiki has a decent chart of eps where 'plot' happens.

http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/wiki/Anime#Episodes

This isn't like a csi where nothing happens, but more akin to something like Person of Interest, but expanded at a longer/slower scale.

It probably could be picked up at any time but you wouldn't get the full experience I'd say. There's always huge plot developments occasionally like the clash of red and black arc that was a whole season of plot or even stuff like the big twists/reveals that are like every 100 chapters. The show does have story arcs where Conan is investigating something over time (such as Bourbon in the newer episodes) that usually end with huge events like the mystery train story or the scarlet series.

While as a whole the show can go over a year without any main plot, it does move slowly...but when it does it's amazing.

I remember I was obsessed with this show when it came out in America. Bought almost all of the manga issues and the DVDs until I realized I was spending a shitload of money and would never be able to reach the end.
