Sony Gamescom 2010 Press Conference

When I heard that siren in the trailer I got goosebumps down my spine because I knew it was for Resistance 3! SUPER PUMPED. The rest of this conference was junk, but at least Ted Price redeemed the whole fiasco by being god like. :D

Haha me too man. That Siren was a nice touch. Resistance is back!!

The only actual shooters with the traditional sense of the word are Killzone and Resistance. Imo putting a tactical game like Socom, a sandbox and a platformer in that category is like putting FF and Soul Calibur together in the category of "sword games".
I'm with you, sword games suck

Yep, can't wait for Keiji Inafune to say how Japan has lost it and Kojima to whine about how Japan isn't what it's used to be anymore while Yoichi Wada announces yet more cellphone development.
Personally, I can't wait for Fumito Ueda.

:lol

I don't understand this, where did this whole mentality start from? Was it because they couldn't get games to sell on the level of GTA and Moder Warfare and thus the Japanese video game industry turned to shit? I don't get it. Why has the jRPG just dropped off the face of the Earth?

Then he should have made a comment about the videogame industry in general instead of making the "only does" joke that's usually made to satirize specifically PS3.
To be honest, even if it was a bit of trolling, it's not a huge deal is it? Where would videogame forums be without a little banter? :P (in moderation of course)

So Sony ignores psp for the second time this year (I mean more than they usually do). No price drop, no new games, no new model and no succesor.

Thank god we get 20 PS3 sequels and/or shooters

Well, there's still the TGS.

Three (half) of those are new, original franchises that started this generation. I'd call this a pretty great mix. Maybe it's a bit shooter heavy, but if you complain about these games, let me know which console manufacturer did better new ip wise this generation.
None of them are new IP's. I don't care if they were started this generation; all but one of those games are in their third iteration or more. For me personally it is a terrible mix.

And yes, the same applies to Microsoft and Nintendo. That doesn't make it right.

Yeah I'm disappoint too. I'm glad that they've sold 60 millions PSP, but I'd be happier with more games to look after.

Naught Dogs and Sucker Punch deserve the praise they received, while Insomniac... not so much.

Their business model and way of making game feel very 'systematic' and 'mechanical'. There aren't much soul in their games compare to the former two. What's coming out from Insomniac always feel expected and lack of any real surprises/excitement. It's either Ratchet this year and then Resistance next year. Now we have both next year. It wouldn't be too much of a problem if their games push boundaries like Uncharted 2, but they don't.

I am sure if companies like Gearbox and Treyarch go exclusive to PS3 (or 360), they will receive the same amount of love and reputation like them, instead of their infamy for being 'second rated' among the hardcore community.

What are you expecting? I mean, I thought you had really come to terms with the fact that the platform is winding down, with or without a successor.

As much as I anticipate R3 (even after being very disappointed with R2's SP campaign and the lack of gunwheel, co-op campaign and the narrator), I have to say I was more excited about a possible Siren sequel, when I read something about sirens on Eurogamer's Gamescom blog. :lol

I found it interesting when the guy said at the end of the conference that there are still a couple of titles left to be announced for this holiday season. TGS :D

They aren't ignoring the PSP at all. Haven't you seen the most recent Marcus commercial where they attack the iPhone? Or did you mean "do something positive regarding the PSP"? Because then yes I would agree that Sony is doing nothing positive considering how incredibly awful the Marcus commercial was.

Insomniac is right up there next to Sucker Punch for me, but both are under Naughty Dog just b/c I love Uncharted so much. I love all 3 dev houses, slanderous to say otherwise.

So when can we expect the conference to be up on the Store?

Never?

I don´t think they gave a lot of attention to it.

I would be more interested in having GT5´s show tomorrow up on the store, or live streamed if they were smart.

But the complaints wouldn't be from the same people. Some people want lots of sequels, some people want lots of new IP, some people claim to want new IP but only buy sequels, some people want everything, some people are just trolling.

Saying that some people would make the opposite complaint doesn't confirm or dismiss a complaint.

I want to say that's not accurate, but some posters are pretty... weird.

There are a lot of new IPs, that poster just focused on the sequels. If he only meant this press conference sure, but there are new IPs everywhere outside of this event. E3 had new IPs, and this year released new IPs. He should be plenty satisfied. For events like this sequels would be more in demand, people want the next version of the game they are familiar with.

Motarstowm!!!!

I mean they are ignoring the handheld space, not necessarily only the psp because I know it's on its way out. But seeing the conferences it does seems like they only have one console.

And one of the big reasons why psp is in this awfully bad shape is their half-assed support during all this years.

What makes them any different naughty dog. We are waiting for uncharted 3 instead of an insomniac ip. I still am confused with the hate of insomniac since ratchet acit was a better game than infamous imo. Everything else has been mediocre but the hate they have is rather absurd hyperbolic reactions. Similar to peter molyneux reactions here. Why do people have these absurd reactions

Developers simply cant take on the risk of financing unknown, unproven IPs given the current economic climate. SONY especially, because they have the lowest install base and highest production costs. Im disappointed as well but I also want these developers to survive these tough times. Just be patient.

Is the Resistance 3 trailer up anywhere? That Playstation blog only have the Ratchet trailer.

Sony still deals with new IPs, they just aren't put out front like known franchises. David Cage's next game will be a new IP too (if he makes another. Due to Heavy Rain's success he has to).

why? I think this is related Sony news:

along with the Move support announcement there is now also a little info blowout about the updates/DLC for MAG in the coming months:

http://blog.mag.com/blog/2010/08/mag-moves-plus-our-new-beta-program/

Clan Deploy:
- allows clan leaders to choose any game type and queue up to 128 clan members for matches as a team

new Skill tree system:
- improves how our character customization system works
- new skills and new abilities

in-game economy system:
- allows users to earn “Credit Points” by completing objectives, finishing missions, and killing enemies. They can then spend those points to purchase:
- new weapons and gear.

also multiple character slots and more

upcoming DLC game-type, “Escalation”:
- The most frenetic MAG game mode yet, Escalation offers three brand-new faction-neutral maps that pit a total of 96 players from all three PMCs against each other simultaneously. For the first time ever, Raven, Valor and SVER will be on a single map going after the same objectives at the same time.
- maps have never-before-seen environments
- nine new weapons

all MAG players are invited to test the stuff above and more in the all-new MAG Beta program starting next week (August 24):
- To participate in the new MAG beta, all you have to do is download the client software from the PlayStation Store when it becomes available next week, insert your MAG disc into the PlayStation 3, sign-in to the beta client and… BOOM!

That's bascially what's set for release this autumn (and now during the beta available for everyone). Even more stuff is said to be planned for the future.

Shots from the new maps:

I think it's especially cool to allow everyone with a MAG disc to participate in the beta for the new stuff and addons

It is nice to see Sony pushing to get a lot of games that support Move and it would seem that Zipper feels relatively good with the Move if they are willing to put it in SOCOM and MAG.

The event was not bad at all this year, nothing massive but they had hardware news, Mass Effect 2, Resistance 3,new R&C and new Virtua Tennis announcements + updated footage from their upcoming lineup and a few new services.
If we get a proper GT5 showcase tomorrow I'll be pretty happy with gamescom this year.

It's not a big deal at all, I agree. I was just arguing for the sake of it.

There's actually a fair bit of new IP out there at the moment. It just happens to be centered around the new motion platforms. Shocking!

As for the core systems themselves, they're 4, 5 years in now. It's always the case that when a new generation hits, you have a flurry of new IP, and then the successful ones get iterated on over the course of the generation. That's how things tend to go.

Oh yeah, I completely agree with you there.
