Sony Gamescom 2010 Press Conference

You know what? Fuck TGS! Seriously, fuck it!

First it was, yeah..It'll be at E3. E3 goes by and nothing is shown.

So then everyone says, "You know what?! they're probably waiting for GamesCom since they didn't want to be overshadowed by the 3DS."

So I waited and guess what happened? Diddly-Fucking-Squat.

Face it, if they didn't announce it today its most likely not going to be shown at TGS. If it is shown at TGS it damn well won't be released within the foreseeable future. In other words, Fall 2011 by the earliest. But hey, why should I care?! I'm not the one who is about to lose out on a multi-billion dollar market (and my spending dollars).

People really think PSP2 is going to be shown this year?
Damn some of you are reaching.

That was a pretty great showing. I honestly didn't expect to see two games from Insomniac.

So. Weapon wheel?

All in good time. All in good time.

More to come in the not-too-distant future. Looking forward to some folks analyzing the trailer.

Oh.... and we got you guys today. :lol The 2-3 page meltdown was hilarious.

Even after the Ratchet announcement, I still thought there was going to be an R3 announcement. Just a bit :lol

It looks like you guys are taking a step away from the bigger = better mantra...which is good. Looking forward to gameplay

I can't believe you planned to reveal a ratchet game, and then R3. You sneaky bastards :lol

To people who threw a fit and cursed Insomniac for thinking R&C was being announced instead of Resistance 3, how ridiculous did you feel once they also revealed R3? Because it's really funny reading your reactions.

Good show, Insomniac.
Yeah I felt pretty stupid but all I posted was a noooo vader gif with "I wanted Resistance 3".

German PSN accounts now also have a TV channel icon in the XMB. It's the yesterday announced TV channel Animax (e.g. like BBC player for UK accounts&IPs). Strangely, they announced the TV channel ZDF last year, too but that never showed up for us Germans.

It just popped up today, you have to deal with your new TV XMB icon.

As usual it's just a link to an optimized version of the TV channel's website in the PS3 internet browser.

However, I don't really see the content I could watch/buy.
I can watch some free episodes of a video games show, it's multiplatform and the guy just got an Achievement while playing Singularity :lol

Thankfully I'm not the only one who is wondering what the fuck is going on with Sony in the handheld space.

“I don’t really know what they have planned for PSP,” analyst Michael Pachter told MCV. “They seem eerily complacent about the device, which, as we all know, is not selling well.”

So what did Sony have to say about PSP at last night’s gathering? Well, global sales of the portable in the most recent financial year hit 9.9m while sales of downloadable Minis titles have hit 1m in less than a year.

Other than that? Nothing, other than the reiteration of the same message – Sony believes in PSP and will stick with it.

So all eyes now turn to TGS at the end of September. “I suppose if they are going to debut a new hand held device, Tokyo makes more sense than Cologne, as they probably would launch in Japan first anyway,” Pachter added. “But I wasn’t kidding, I really don’t understand their PSP strategy.”

Pachter should give some constructive criticism instead of simply saying "I don't get them".
What exactly doesn't he get ?

That pretty much every big franchise is on PSP ?
That every single mainstream game comes to PSP (racing, sports, kids) ?
That there's a ton of RPGs for it ?
That it's the best selling console in Japan ?
That Sony makes money on every PSP and every game sold ?
That it's by far the most succesful non-Nintendo handheld ever ?

This isn't true and isn't relevant.

This isn't true.

This is true but irrelevant as far as platform health goes, which is what he was commenting on.

That it's the best selling console in Japan ?

This isn't true on a weekly basis, an annual basis, or a lifetime basis.

This is true but irrelevant.

This is true but irrelevant when we're discussing how it's doing now as opposed to how it has done. It's kinda like if Sony had never launched a PS2 and someone pointed out that the PS1 was not selling well in 2002/2003; it's not a comment about the historical success of the platform, it's a comment about the current health of the platform.

MH3 will make Sony a significant amount of cash, it'll push hardware a little too. FFAgitoXIII will probably sell a few million worldwide too. GoWPSP2 will do a couple of million probably. They have a few major titles coming up, but the future of the system seems in major doubt to me.

But, I don't really care about the platform personally, I can't see them making the PSP2 something attractive to me, unless it's also a better phone and MP3 player than the iPhone, and it won't be.

I'm beginning to not give a shit about Starhawk anymore.

Why the hell did everyone have to notice Sony's trademark of the Starhawk name? Otherwise I wouldn't be waiting at the edge of my chair for an announcement game press conference after game press conference.

I wish I could whipe my memory of this. What's the next event? PAX?

Pokemon Black & White will sell more units than all those games combined and will push more hardware but still Nintendo is releasing the 3DS this fiscal year.

I'm imagining this scenario for a random month early next year:

NPD March 2011
3DS - 500k (supply constrained)
DS - 270k
PSP - 50k

And Sony still saying "We believe in PSP and will stick with it"

Why does it matter how it compares to the competition as appose to how it is for the company in question?

This is what I really hate about the 'console war', I don't know who is currently selling the least units, I believe it's Sony (don't attack me if I'm wrong, I don't know, and don't care), but what actually matters is how is that working for that company. MS have made great headway this generation, but as a whole, I'm sure money wise the whole Xbox project has been a complete waste.

It doesn't matter that the iPhone is not the dominate phone in the world, it matters that it makes Apple a disgusting amount of cash.

Is the PSP making Sony money? Yes. Is that a good thing for Sony? Yes.

It really does not matter what the DS is doing. Fuck the system war bullshit, I really don't understand why people give a fuck.

One thing is not care about what Nintendo is doing and another thing is look fucking clueless.
