Go look @ SwiftDeath posts in "Microsoft 1.1 million XB1/XBOX360" thread. Xbox one sold to consumer numbers are anywhere from 4.5m -4.7 million. they were shipping, maybe, 300k a month worldwide

If the deal was made at the beginning of the year after the holiday the systems looked more like the PS4 would have a decent lead, but the Xbox One would sell pretty well in the Americas. The Xbox One collapsed very hard this year from the launch months.

When they announced 5 million shipped back in April, there were what, about 1 million units on shelves? Have they sold 1 million units since then? Well, just take NPD numbers for May-July, those probably account for 65%+ of it's sales, then use that percentage to figure out WW sales. Has it hit 5 million? Nope, very doubtful.
They're probably close, but they likely won't reach 5 million till sometime this month. Maybe last depending on how they did in NA.
The Wii was having supply issues at that point. It still an entirely accurate comparison though, since the Wii was just $250.

Wii shipped 10m in 7-10 months. Likely closer to 7.5-8.5 judging the numbers.
The PS4 sold 10m in 8 months.
I think the PS4 is outpacing the Wii.

But that 5 million shipped number is old. The latest stat is 5 million shipped by April, then 1.1 million "Xbox family" shipped from April to June 30th. By that logic, 5 million sold by now would be pretty reasonable (I actually think it's probably a bit more).
However, I really liked the comparison of 2014 sales that Skeff highlighted. Because when looking at those in isolation rather than LTD, Sony are not only ahead, but pretty much KILLING it.
This place is going to be hilarious around january/february 2015. If Sony keeps at it, there'll be gloating and salt. If MS turns it around there'll be crow eating‚ and salt.

Maybe not impossible. MS so overshipoed earlier in the year that there shipments numbers were atrocious last quarter. It wouldn't surprise me if they've vacated some manufacturing capacity that Sony could take advantage of to increase their own manufacturing capacity.
This gen has an important specificity though. Both consoles have mandatory online fees. Once someone buys one it makes it a rather more difficult financial option to buy the other right after. Any advantage this early in the gen will have ripple effects all along this gen.

They were at 5 million shipped, we don't know the Xbone's sell through numbers but it was definitely lower then 5 million. We also don't know the split on that 1.1 million between 360, Xbone, or sold through. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if the Xbone was sitting very close to 5 million sold through (plus or minus).

I suppose that's possible. I'm not going to claim to know when deals like this are usually struck, or how long they're made before being announced.

But yeah, if the deal was made back then when Xbox was at least in striking distance, then I could see them regretting it a little.
But still, it's a timed exclusive. They get Microsoft money upfront and can still get PS4 and PC money depending on how long the exclusive is, quality of the game, steam, etc.

I'm not ruling out MS getting half or a bit more than half of the marketshare that Sony's going to get, but "deep pockets" won't do anything for MS if they don't use it correctly.
They're already available in many of those markets from being imported or they can be imported personally. In markets where it is available, it's not doing very well, especially in Europe. It's 3:1 in some countries and I believe 6:1 in Spain. Do you really think other countries with a similar disposition for Playstation over Xbox are going to adopt more Xbox Ones over PS4s? Not unless Fifa and maybe even PES go exclusive on the Xbox One.
And China? Really? Isn't the PS4 supposed to release in China? And isn't it supposedly receiving much more positive buzz in China?

They are going to be happy porting older games like Journey, Flower, Flow or what ever they can re-package. Re-cycle, Re-furbish, Re-re-what-ever is the mantra with Sony now.
MS did the same with 360 last couple of years and it still sold well. It all seems to be about 3rd party games, which ever console runs 3rd party games like COD, Madden, FIFA well; wins the race.

Yes, obviously entering more markets means they will sell more than a non-zero amount of new consoles in said market. However, given the actual sales distribution likely in said new markets, your point makes no sense. It is literally going to hardly even put an incremental dent into the gap Sony has right now. That's how little those territories mean for Microsoft, because of how much Sony dominates them.

People talking about Tomb Raider exclusivity don't need to feel sorry for CD. They'll have the proper compensation for this deal. And will release the game on PS4 and PC at some point. I would love that someone leaked the amount MS paid for it though I reckon it would he impossible to give an exact amount as co marketing would be included.

Sony would be also wise to do a GTAV PS4 bundle as well for the holidays. I say Destiny, PS4 and LB3 bundles this holiday for Sony and we could easily be looking at 15-17 million by years end.
Then early next year we have Batman, The Order, Witcher and Bloodborne. Sony really could carry this train all the way until early spring.
