Sony is going into next gen in good position

I think the position Sony is next gen they will dominate because no one is going to give a single fuck about the Magnus or Steam Machine when you can get prebuilts or just build a better pc. They will be the cheaper option of the three and I think they will dominate even more nextgen and push more people to the console. No one is going to care about these stationary console/Pc. Portables are a bit different because of the portability aspect. It's been done since the early 2010s with the Alienware X51 and no one cared back then.

I think, looking at them increasing prices for their services and hardware while also being weak in their first-party lineup, the main advantage Sony have got going for them is that Mattrick and Spencer went all Cassius and Brutus on Xbox.

Does this matter though PC has always been service free and people still pay for their services.

the competition is PC vs PS6 now

And the PS6 has already won because anyone with intelligence knows that the only games with good graphics on PC are third-party games.
No one is going to spend millions of dollars to make exclusive games for PC.

The trend suggests that PlayStation will eventually surpass 200 million customers due to the superior power provided by blockbusters games.

Honestly, in this economy I don't think any hardware maker is in a good position.

With how things are, a $600+ box is going to be a very hard sell for people compared to previous generations. Especially considering people refuse to beleive we are currently in a recession and that there are no foresearble signs of relief for consumers. I actually expect a PS2 like situation for PS5 in a couple years if they cand rop the price. PS5 graphically is good enough.

Looks like they are taking the right steps for next gen with the handheld and the Japan only PS5 is a really good sign. If they manage to solve the software output issue with smaller games like Astro Bot and the hardware prices is going to be an excellent gen for us.

The biggest Sony competitor is Nintendo not PC… PC have no competition, even Sony is launching their games there.

After being let down by PS5 this gen, I'm more likely to go with a Steam Machine than a PS6, and I fucking hate PC gaming. Only way I'd ever even consider a PS6 is if it's a hybrid device, has good first party and third party support and Japanese games.

I meant that people are still paying for PlayStation services and subscriptions even though on PC all you have to pay for is the internet. I don't see how the steam machine or Magnus will change this.
I don't think Steam Machine will attempt to change this. Playstation can charge people money for that because there is no alternative. It is much harder to get people to pay for online play on PC because people will find a way around it. I remember Microsoft trying something like this during the Games For Windows Live days, and obviously no one used it. I also don't think that Steam Machine is meant as a competitor to Playstation. I think Steam Machine is an attempt at creating a hardware baseline that many devs can target that is still affordable (it depends on how much it actually costs) with a focus on gaming (which is why they ship it with SteamOS installed).

I've abandoned the Playstation console ecosystem.
Rebought all the Sony games on PC. I'm still missing Astrobot. :(
Sony is still in the house, but the Playstation is out.

Yup. They'll be the only console available to access AAA games at decent performance. The only one willing to subsidize. No one else is cutting deals for brokies.

Next to no competition isn't a good place to be, imo. PlayStation is at their best when they are being pushed.

Maybe that's a "good position" for stockholders and executives, but it isn't for gamers.

I strongly doubt 200 million, and who's to say that Sony will continue pouring hundreds of millions into its cinematics? The direct competition from Microsoft, and therefore the necessity, is gone, and for many people, PC and consoles are like apples and oranges.

Which I agree competition is good. It's not a good thing for gamers and you can see that in PS5 Gen since Xbox dropped the ball.

Sony is going to sure up the super hero games, they want people to pay a lot for hardware, god of war, naughty dog and GT make huge money, AMD is inexpensive, they're willing to put another VR out there.

That's what PlayStation is.

Their next flawed gimmick is abandoning Steam. They obviously aren't aware they're playing their own game and no one will be hurt except themselves and the sooner they realize that the better.

With the diminishing returns in place, i think that's not good strategy for the future.

Sony's trick next gen is how they are going to be everywhere AND inside their own ecosystem only:

- PS6 home console
- Portable device (PS6 Portable or something)
- PS Portal 2 (or whatever they release next)
- Rumors about a PC storefront that's cross-buy with consoles. Not a unified store, but basically what you buy on PC gives you access to those games on console as well (based on those tags we have been seeing)

This way they won't need to have their games available in other companies storefronts, making 100% of revenue, while managing to boost their MAU users considerably as well.

Prefer to play at home and on console? PS6. Prefer a portable console? PS6 Portable (imagine buying a PS Plus subscription and having all PS4, PS5 etc games out of nowhere). Prefer to play sony games on PC with your rig? Here it is on PS PC store. Cloud? Here's a cheap PS Portal (or whatever they release next).

Multiple entry points for multiple prices for multiple types of users. This will be their trick.

But honestly...until PS6 releases we got a lot coming. 2026 will be the beginning of something we aren't used at seeing: 2026 fall is going to be their biggest for a 7th fall season for any console ever for them and the beginning of console's lifespans decreasing slower with a lot of big games coming from their studios on year 6 (Saros, Wolverine, Marathon, Marvel Tokon) and then GTAVI. Like, unless consoles need to go up in prices next year due to increases in graphic cards, ram etc...imagine a PS5 + GTAVI bundle during black friday for 300/350 bucks.

A PS Portal 2 is not going to be necessary with the PS6 Portable…

The best thing Sony has going for them is the Jizz leak/rumor that they are pulling back from releasing 1st party games on PC.

Jizz is the best player on Sony's team!

Tone-deaf if you ask me.

Sony should make sure Wolverine never sees the PC.

Now is the time to make that happen. Jez heard they were pulling back. Wolverine a Playstation excusive would be a step in the right direction.

If you can play Wolverine on Magnus then why buy a PS6?

You hearing this Sony?

A portable that plays games natively is absolutely much more expensive than one that's only a cloud device. Different markets. Different users. Cheaper price as well. (for the cloud device)

if I were Sony I'd definitely be going into the next gen in a good mood, released a console which probably had the most negative experience this time around along with price hikes which were blamed on tariffs, then coming out with the financials reports show Sony have made more profits than PS3 and PS4 combined with such little effort, I'd be over the moon going into next-gen.

The Steam Cube is a problem. PC is a problem. It must be treated as a market adversary.
PC has existed since before consoles...and the way components are increasing as we approach a new gen, even if consoles have a price increase it's nowhere near as much as building new PCs.

And Steam Cube...Steam Deck has sold like 5M consoles in almost 4 years. Sony's portable device (and cloud only) sold over 1.3M in the USA alone in 2 years. I don't see anyof this as a huge deal for them. At least not more so than before.
