Sony's Dig at Microsoft Thoughts ?

But the policies have changed and the differences between the two consoles are now almost negligible. They even have the same games for the most part so if ms just keeps playing their cards right they just might outsell sony. I'm not saying that's what is going to happen, but it's not extremely unlikely

That doesn't change the fact that microsoft doesn't know what the fuck they are doing and that's why sony made fun of them, nothing more and nothing less.

There was no need for Sony to stoop this low. With this and Mark cerny emphasizing "the most powerful console" I really felt Sony is desperate and doing all this to stay relevant.

The same sentiment has appeared several times in the thread and it makes less sense every time. In what way is Sony/PS4 not relevant? Theres only two next-gen consoles being released, even if they werent the frontrunner (thus making them the more releveant of the two) they'd still be relevant because theres only two consoles coming out. Do posters just struggle with understanding what the word relevant actually means?

LOL!

As for today's jabs, they really aren't a big deal. Just something to laugh at.

It shows thatSony actually has a plan and vision that is inline with the consumers and that MS just doesn't get gamers.

The launch lineups show something else. Which means they both fail at different but equally important things. Basically PS4 will struggle because of their exclusives until mid-2014 and X1 will struggle because of Kinect and price until mid-2014.

I didn't come across well, for me.

Their E3 jab was subtle, yet everyone knew. This was "Unlike those guys, Microsoft *WINK WINK*, we don't change our policies for the better. Because they were always the better. Because we care."

It just seemed like a "Ok, they changed their policies, and are actually competition. How do we make fun of them for that", when you really can't.

Microsoft could just say "a multiplayer service that you love, with Xbox Live. An awards system that was revolutionary, with Achievements. The first step towards true virtual reality, with Kinect. Unparalleled improvements to your entertainment experience, with Xbox One. These are just some of the revolutions we have innovated in, whilst one particular competitor has simply looked at their competition, and copied their efforts. It's easy to not make mistakes when you don't strive to improve the experience gamers have, but rather copy the successes around you. We listened to your feedback, and developed the Xbox One to truly be the entertainment console for you."

Boom. Done.

That piece of imagined PR nonsense would go down like a lead balloon, especially in Europe.

I didn't think it was needed, they have a solid following now. In the years the X360 was ahead, I don't think Microsoft did disses like that.

Sony's reaction took years. Microsoft's reaction took one month.

I really think that MS deserved the jab at the E3, but now after the 180, it's unnecessary and childish.

True, but they still tried to pull something pretty shady with the whole DRM thing. I mean, even months in advanced we all saw the massive backlash that DRM rumors got, then Sim CIty, and the whole Adam Orth thing. MS knew people wouldn't like it but they still went ahead with it. Not to mention their attitude was pretty much "if you don't like it, screw off."

Sony's main problem was the high price (due to the tech) and their arrogance. Between the two, I'd personally say that MS' mistakes are bigger than what Sony tried back in 2006. It spread like wildfire, and MS won't easily shake that image.

Add to that all the 180s they've tried and the still present arrogance (remember them claiming they'd "kill" Sony at E3), you can see why people are having a hard time trusting them, right?

MS will turn things around, it's just going to take a while. Give it time.

Just let him go....he won't see anything differently.

i love when people tag post me trying to say i'm an xbot. i got it years back, when gears was first shown running on xbox 360 hardware. i posted a thread that it was clearly downgraded from all the demos shown earlier and have become a fallen xbot.

the mods have recognized i am no longer a xbot, you all should too ;)

What I find funny is people are calling this unprofessional and lame.

However can those people who are calling this that, please explain what that surface commercial is, what that scroogle campaign was and all MS insecure inaccurate digs at the competition is?

"We listened to your feedback, and developed the Xbox One to truly be the entertainment console for you."

Below is a depiction of that process of listening to feedback.

They're taking their lumps for having such an audaciously mismanaged set of policies and messaging. That's what happens, and they're turning the ship around. They can shift the narrative and are doing so, bit by bit, but in the words of the mighty Gabe: these things, they take time.

It was just good fun so I had no issues with it. Can't see why anyone would have a problem with it really.

It was fine, there's no tech company I can think of that's been too aloft to dig at their rivals. All Apple and MS do is take shots at each other.

what did everything think of their dig at microsoft saying we arent like the others back tracking on what we say n things.

i was surprised it was said but also think it was needed

Not to mention the whole video apps not being behind a paywall dig, effectively negating the laughable exclusivity of Minecraft: Xbox One Edition, and mentioning streaming music during gameplay at the system level (custom soundtracks were on a game-by-game basis on the PS3, so with the PS4 they one-upped by allowing Music Unlimited to be streamed during gameplay - no word if local music is also supported.) Also, they're launching in 32 countries within a two weeks window when MS had to cut from 21 to 13.

There's a good chance the Xbox One will launch in the same pay period for many people as the PS4 is, since it's 11/15. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

The days of Sony snowing the consumers and the press are over, I think the pressure is now really on them more than ever to deliver on all of these promises.

Seems fair. "They said their console would be superior to ours, but that was built mostly on lies. If they want to succeed in the marketplace, they have to compete in actions, not words". You have to remember that when the PS3 launched, it was practically unfinished, compared to where it got. Sony just looked at the Xbox feature-set, and began to work their way towards that.

The Gamescom comments are also fair. They just seemed like an unnecessary aside, especially seeing as Xbox's promises were tentative, and changed to reflect the needs of the market. They tried something new, made a mistake, and tried to produce a better console. That's admirable, if anything.

The fuck, you say?

When they announced the XBO, they in no way said this was just a tentative plan for the console.

I think Microsoft wanted to let the people know their vision before get rid of it. When the time came, they weren't able to transmit the advantages of the ecosystem and the shitstorm began. Microsoft's only fault is to be out of touch with the gaming community, a mistake they are trying to correct. I really appreciate their efforts with the 180s, but it looks like i'm in the minority.

Wow, at the time it seemed like nothing...had no idea it would generate so many bitter posts

Logitech gonna make a killing from people replacing their tear drenched keyboards

I loved the message but the cockiness was absent and the swag was on zero. Beans from Even Stevens could have dropped his nuts harder.

This. All this.

Backtracking happens. Companies have to own up to it and their mistakes. I can't wait to see how the new policies pan out.

Perhaps promises wasn't the right word. Their choices with the direction of the console were clearly tentative, because they clearly aren't the same now.

Not really as I am sure they were never planning on changing the XBO when they announced it, this change was more of a oh shit! reactionary change than something that was a possibility.

I think it was needed. It was kind of ironic we had a thread a day or two ago about how sony is silent while MS is making a lot of noise. What basically was done here is that sony saying..we just never had the need to it. It's a fun jab for sure but it also restating their plan so far.
