Sony's Dig at Microsoft Thoughts ?

Its been a tough generation for Sony, they were at the top of the gaming world with the PS2 and blew it all away.

They're probably out for blood now seeing what happened in concern to the PS3 earlier on from 2006 - 2008 and the such. Its going to depend on who you ask, but its all in fair game IMO to put another corporation on blast for inconsistency/flip flopping, even if their policies are more open minded and consumer friendly then what they were a few months ago, who gives a flying fuck if it pisses off a couple dozen people on the internet when one guy has stuck by their word and their strategy and the other quite simply, has not. I remember Shane Kim and other MS executives like Greenberg making shots against Sony and the PS3 years ago, so Andrew House making a comment like that -- the tables have turned considerably since then so yeah sure why not.

I thought it was ok, but maybe a little more forced than their E3 comments. Those were basically calling out bad policy, and people have good reason to get behind that. It was totally warranted (and effortlessly hilarious). This is saying it's bad that a company changed bad policy, so it's a little silly when you think about it.

It was in good fun though.
Except that wasn't it at all. The statement was more of "we've had our shit together since day one. You can go back and compare our respective policies at the beginning of it all (think e3) and see that we (Sony) have had a clear and consumer-centric vision compared to MS."

That's what the dig was in reference to. Not necessarily the act of flip flopping like a fish out of water, but more about MS being assholes to begin with.

I it thought it was lame. MS brought the goods but IMO Sony did not.

MS showed ONE new game (Fable Legends), a COD bundle and a FIFA preorders' initiative. That's it, literally. Yet they somehow brought the goods while Sony -which unveiled many more games at this Gamescom- didn't. Seems objective...

Microsoft used to pull all kinds of stuff like "we love 360" boats at events and stuff. I think they can handle their direct competitor kicking them while they are down.

It was unnecessary but whateve no harm in it.

You know that MS conference is tomorrow, right?

O.O

I'm starting to feel like people are viewing me as an Xbox fanboy, or something. I'm quite far from that.

I'm just saying that "they changed their policies to better reflect the needs of consumers, when we didn't have to" isn't the best diss, coming from a company like Sony, who would take systems like friends lists and achievements wholesale from Microsoft. It seems silly to ridicule an opponent who tries something new, and pursues a vision, especially when they back down from that because it's something their consumers don't want. Came across as petty, personally.

The Xbox One tried to be something different, and it wasn't something people wanted. It is now a better console for it. I won't give Microsoft credit for that, but I won't mock them for it either.

Kind of pathetic. I've never been a fan of rival companies taking digs at each other, but I understand why they do it. It panders to the idiots who gobble it up and deflects the criticism away. That's why you see all the smear campaigns during elections.

You saw the same thing at E3. Sony had the disappointing news of charging for online play next gen but they were more than ready to cue up that DRM video to rip on MS and get our minds off it.

Only reason Sony is so full of themselves is because of the mistakes of others. They have yet to prove that they've accomplished anything significant with PS4.

What?... it's the most power and cheapest device that was a hit with consumers day 1. It's got the dev support to back it up and hasn't had to do any damage control from the start.

What the fuck are you talking about?

Does anyone else feel like Sony found Microsofts "how to win a generation" play book In a dumbster and are just stealing pages out of it?

It's beyond crazy how Sony is doing exactly what Microsoft did for the 360. I still can't believe how Microsoft have made so many mistakes leading into this gen.

I will eventually own both systems but its crazy times for sure.

what did everything think of their dig at microsoft saying we arent like the others back tracking on what we say n things.

i was surprised it was said but also think it was needed

I thought it was funny but in all honesty, if they didn't make that comment they would have said "Unlike others we believe in allowing the users to play used games and access their systems offline, however they choose". Also they could have said "unlike our competitor we don't force our user to have a camera plugged in for our console to function".

Microsoft did go back on their policies, but they were all policies people wanted reversed in the first place. Yet even after Microsoft reversed their most hated policies, they got hate for changing their mind. You just can't win with some people.

its the sorta thing that goes over most people's heads

the remaining that are pointing it out are either.

sony fan reactions: "that was good"
ms fans reactions: "that was bad"

MS had everything going for them going into the gen but somehow they've managed to create a machine that pretty much burdens them with the same disadvantages the PS3 had. Crazy indeed. The third console curse lives on.

I thought the dig was fine. I would like to see more between them. They are competitors after all. I liked the Sega vs Nintendo commercials and such, it was fun.

ALL this news today, and SONY commenting on how they didn't have to do any 180's is the biggest thread rn... I can't.

Well, to be honest, I respect someone more who learns from their mistakes and changes than I do someone who makes mistakes and doesn't. Yep, Microsoft's rep is pretty much in the shitter thanks to people like Mattrick, but at least they've made positive changes (except for Kinect and $499 imo). As for the comment, there's no way a reasonable person could disagree.

I laughed, its all in good fun. Who cares about corporate companies taking shots at each other. It isn't like MS made it a hard thing to do. Just like 05 Sony made it easy for them to get made fun of as well.

Saying that MS has learned from past mistakes and that Sony has not, is mind boggling. Were people not around 7 years ago?

EDIT: Nevermind, I thought you were saying MS made positive changes and Sony has not. Carry on.

By the way have people forgotten...the PR jab/attack fest started with MS this time too (unless I'm forgetting an incident if so please feel free to correct me)

Remember the stuff about how no one in Uk will know about the PS4 or something along those lines as well as we will kill Sony at E3 stuff?

For those who didn't see it: Video

Thanks, Wario.

LMFAO! THIS COMMENT! This can't be real!

sony fanboys like to knock ms for 180s but at least ms listened to their fans. sony withholding ps2 backwards compatibility on ps3 and ps4 is insulting to everyone who made ps2 the most successful console of all time. house is a total douchebag and cerny lost all the japanese support. fuck this new sony playstation brand.

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Their #1 goal as a player in a highly competitive industry is to take every chance they can to fire shots at their biggest competitor, that's what businesses do in a highly competitive situation. Sony are being uncharacteristically smart about the way they've been handling Microsoft's blunders. They're continuously reminding people how sloppy and incompetent MS have been since E3 - which they would be insane not to do. After a generation of being in second place (more or less) you can bet your ass they're going to just keep on going for Microsoft's jugular now that they've got the momentum to do so.

Call it childish if you want, but I love seeing this new SCEA - motherfuckers are bringing their A-game this time around and they want everyone to know it.

I'm not going to fake outrage, but in a way, it reminded me of Sony back in 2005/06, arrogant and cocky. I'm convinced more then ever that gamers need a roughly split user base between Sony and MS, otherwise gamers are going to get fucked by the winner.

Taking a slight jab at a competitor is childish and unnessary? Come on, now. Some reactions in this thread have made me roll my eyes a record number of times.

Damn truth is what it was, and lol worthy. Microsoft's flip flopping is essentially non stop playing catch up with Sony, and there's no harm in Sony reminding people of that.

Also lol at the salt from some (not so surprising) posters in here.

This shit right here! Sega used to run that shit. They may have eventually burned out but they were on some brash, uncalled for, ignant' shit. And I loved every second of it despite being more of a Nintendo kid at the time. Sony should have gone even harder. They have room to really get in MS ass if they wanted to.

Can't remember who it was, but someone on the Gamescom Day 1 Joystiq podcast mentioned that Microsoft and Sony usually dance around each other and don't acknowledge the others existence, til at E3 Sony turned around and sucker punched Microsoft.

I like when companies acknowledge their competitors. Don't get me wrong, I don't want game expos to turn into nothing but trash talk. I just like the idea of them contrasting themselves with others. 'Company A is doing this, we're doing something different', that sort of thing.

And whoever referenced Sega's jabs at Sony post-PS2 launch as a negative, I just will never understand you.

Didn't think anything of it really, it got a smile but I'm surprised that it's managed to get it's own thread here.

This statement would be true if they had announced free online play at E3 then a month later said, nope you need PS+.
They were using free online as a selling point for the PS3, and snuck in a 180 during their E3 conference.

Oh, and I think they raised the price of PSPlus, to boot.
