Comedy Central has inked a deal with the creators of "South Park" to bring back the long-running animated series for three additional seasons, the network announced Thursday.

Executive producers and co-creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker will write, direct and edit 42 more episodes of "Park." Currently in its ninth season, "Park" will stay put through 2008, producing 14 episodes each year over the next three years.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it is expected to be one of basic cable's biggest producer paydays with revenues from "South" DVDs and merchandise thrown in. The series is also about to enter syndication later this month.

...

In 2003, Parker and Stone had signed a two-year extension with the option for a third year (HR 3/31/03). That option was not exercised, but the new deal covers 2006, the year the option would have been in effect. The second half of "Park's" ninth season launches in October; the 10th season is expected to begin in March.
So, despite what Matt and Trey said when the last deal was signed, the show's going to keep going. I guess that's great, as long as the first half of season 9 was a fluke as none of those episodes did much for me.

I'll have to disagree here. Best Friend Forever, The Death of Eric Cartman and Erection Day were all great.

The rest was quite boring indeed, especially that horrible Wing episode. I also could've lived quite well without ever seing Garrison's sex change operation. Eww

They need ammunition from the media and it was a slow news year when those episodes aired.

Don't worry if people do stupid things, the show will get funnier. Lots of stuff now. FEMA, Michael Jackson, sex teachers, NHL, Iraq. They could have fun. And of course the X-mas finale always kicks ass.

The Wal Mart episode was great.

Despite the show's somewhat clever plot there was just something about the greeter constantly saying "WELCOME TO WALMART" that had me in tears. I couldn't stop laughing. :lol
