Those faces say New York City to me. Raimi's high school scenes just had a bunch of white people. Granted, those movies never focused on school life, but still, it's nice to see a wide range of faces.

This cast is amazing, just need some more supporting female roles now to really round it out.

Forgot my girl Laura Harrier

I wonder if Gwen will turn up for this?
Maybe they're going with early comic canon where Peter doesn't meet Gwen until they're in college.

No Gwen or MJ? He met both around the end of high school so likely we get neither?

Nothing in the casting or photos thus far suggest them here.

I think Sony/Marvel are really trying to separate this new universe from the previous ones so I doubt you'll see them for a while. They don't want anyone going "Oh not this again", but rather "Hey that's new and different!"

In Ultimate he met both in highschool, but MJ is such a major character from the get-go in Ultimate that if they were following that continuity she surely would've been seen by now.

Holy shit. Imagine if there's --no love interest--. It's almost unbelievable, but if they do it (because we already saw Gwen and MJ, and they can save them for later films) that would save soo much movie time for other things. Think of how much time was spent on it in the other films.

Of course, it's a major part of Spider-Man-- but we can do one movie without it. But this IS hollywood so I'm not counting on it. Have there been any Marvel films (non-crossovers) without romance? It seems so dumb that it's a must-have.

Ant-Man? Iron Man? I wouldn't quality Tony and Pepper's relationship in the first movie as romance

I'm super fine with there being no MJ or Gwen.

Actually I'm thrilled and excited about this whole school. I hope a lot of the movie takes place during school, and at home with aunt May too. This is the first time I have been so hyped for a Spider-Man movie since the original one with Tobey Macguire.

Ant-Man had a love interest even though it wasn't a huge focus.

Tony and Pepper definitely had sparks but that one maybe gets a pass

Agree. Part of the fun (and sadness) of Peter's character early on is seeing him try to balance his two lives. Spider-Man 2 did a decent job of conveying this but getting fired from a pizza job isn't as interesting as watching him try to keep up with friends and schoolwork and how that impacts his life fighting crime and vice versa

I really hope we get close to a 50/50 split of school and Spidey (though in my heart I know it will be more 30/70 at most)

Spider-man Loves Mary Jane and Ultimate Spider-man were said to be the main inspirations for Homecoming (I think), so Mary Jane being absent seems strange, but let's see where this takes us.

I am fine with Zendaya as Michelle J. as a replace for MJ .... as long as she is not JJ Jameson's niece or something =P

....unless she smokes pot because calling her MJ without the mary is too subliminal

I'm wondering if Michelle is just a code name being used until they're ready to announce the actual character.

I don't see any real reason to do so, but it is sort of strange that they announced her character was just "Michelle," no last name or anything.

Unless "Michelle" is just a pseudonym her character uses and she's actually like Felicia Hardy or something. But I'm going to stick with my gut on this and assume she's Michelle Gonzales or something.

the movie takes inspiration from Spider-man Loves Mary Jane in tone and spirit but that doesn't mean it has to use the same plot or characters

the director name dropped it as an influence in an interview:
Spider-Man Director Jon Watts Reveals His Comic Book Influences

There’s also some really funny comics stuff, like, the Archies. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen the Spider-Man Loves Mary-Jane series, but they have this really great anime-style illustration, and it’s all just about Peter Parker’s relationships. It’s like the soap opera of Peter Parker in high school. Those are really funny, too.

Zendaya needs to be MJ. It would go against the grain and she is much closer to a "Mary Jane" than Kirsten Dunst or Shyamlan Woodly was. She's very striking and has that girl next door look at the same time.

Did anybody else not like his voice in CW? Not that it was too young or whatever. But it wasn't "clear" if that makes sense. Sounded like he was trying too hard to sound a certain way, reminded me of Wells in The Flash. I don't know if he always sounds like that or if it's because of his American accent. I've yet to find someone who knows what I'm talking about lol

Lol if people think he'll be Carnage in the Spidey movie. I don't see any reason he would be, not even from reading that tweet.
