While commuting by train, this game is awesome in split joy con mode!

Thank you for traveling with Deutsche Bahn :P Perfect game for commute, as the train is delayed all the time :D

Key questions regarding online multiplayer with friends:

* What is the recommended way for 7 friends to create a clan? Through a password? (or does the game limit teams to 4 players, with no clan?)

* Let's say 6 of us are online at the same time, in that case we'd do a 3 vs 3 session. I assume we'd select private battle for this?

* But what if we are only 4 online: does the private battle entrance allows us to regroup, and face other players?

* Is using the app the best way to join friends? Can we use discord and forget the app once our squad session is launched?

* If a 7 player clan can be a thing (knowing only 4 players would play at one given time), does the game keep track of the overall clan records?

Buy it guys doesn't matter if you have one already.

Absolutely no way, it looks disgusting.

I already have a pro controller since day one, and I'd be more than happy with a new special edition one....but not like this.

Here's hoping there's something special planned for the Mario Odyssey

I don't have the game, contemplating wether to get it or not.

Is salmon run playable solo/with randoms or only with friends? I generally don't play with a party in online games.

A couple more hours of work, then home, download this, and get squiddy for the weekend! Start with single player or head straight for Turf War? My only Splatoon experience is testfire and last week's Splatfest.

Agreed. The green and pink one looks incredibly tacky.

Is Salmon Run where you get those ability chunks for the Urchin guy? I was wondering where you got those from since all you get from Turf War is coins for gear.
Salmon Run does award ability chunks, but it's not the only place you can get them. You can get ability chunks from Murch as well. One of the options from Murch is to wipe your gear, which cleans off the abilities on said gear and leaves chunks behind. I'm not sure what the price is for that service, but Murch will likely accept the squid coin you get from battling.

It's playable with randoms and with friends.
Thank you very much!

I loved the small bits of Splatoon 1 that I played, always jumped online solo and had a good time. Just was never good enough for ranked and didn't feel like embarrassing myself in a GAF lobby. I'll get thid game tpday then!

absolutely LOVING this game. I never got to play Splatoon 1 (though it veeery nearly sold me on a Wii U), and this doesn't disappoint my hype one bit.

Big surprise though is just how great those motion controls are. I was so ready to not get it and turn them off but like...2 hours in and I already never want to go back to normal controls ever again.

I'm getting errored out of matches, and now the game is telling me I'm going to get blocked from playing because of quitting, wtf!

What controller settings are you using in portable mode, and should I leave the motion controls on or off - what's recommended?

You'll get lots of polarised answers on this.

My advice is to play through the first few levels of the single-player campaign with motion on, and try adjusting the sensitivity settings if you're having trouble getting used to it (I have mine permanently at -2).
If it still doesn't click, then that's fine. Just give it a go first.

First impressions of the SP:

- gameplay and graphics are good
- the motion control (with higher sensitivity) is better than I thought
- some elements of the game, especially the fast-travel reminds me of the Sonic-franchise

MP didn't work for me, it just got stuck on loading.

I would have preferred it if you could use both motion controls and be able to use normal controls moving in all directions.

Is there good matchmaking in this game? I generally suck at PVP / FPS / TPS, so will I be matched with beginners? I remember in Hearthstone, all the elites will just stick to rank 20 just to pwn us..

Yeah the banning for ragequiters stuff is done pretty badly imo. It should not punish people who get errors.

I don't know how some of you people play with the motion controls... More power to ya, but tilting just fucks me up. I wanna try split Joy-Con, though, I've heard that might work better than Pro Controller w/ tilt.

Game is just as fun as ever, though, as expected. Now that I'm in on the ground floor I'll likely be putting a lot of time into the game this time around. Can't wait to get into Hero Mode and Salmon Run with friends. 😄

Key questions regarding online multiplayer with friends:
I will answer as well as I can. If you have more questions, please do post them.

* What is the recommended way for 7 friends to create a clan? Through a password? (or does the game limit teams to 4 players, with no clan?)
I don't think there's official clan support. What folks usually did in Splatoon 1 was put their clan tag directly in their display name. When you want to play league battles, you can only play in teams of 2 or 4.

* Let's say 6 of us are online at the same time, in that case we'd do a 3 vs 3 session. I assume we'd select private battle for this?
Yes, if you want to play 3v3, you will need to set up a private battle.

* But what if we are only 4 online: does the private battle entrance allows us to regroup, and face other players?
Not quite sure what you mean here. When a player sets up a private battle, only that player's friends will be able to see and join that private battle. You can close and set up private battles as often as you like.

* Is using the app the best way to join friends? Can we use discord and forget the app once our squad session is launched?
Not really to the first question, though admittedly I haven't used the app yet. Yes you can just use discord instead if you prefer.

* If a 7 player clan can be a thing (knowing only 4 players would play at one given time), does the game keep track of the overall clan records?
Nope. I don't think Splatoon 2 has any concept of clans in this way.

Im still undecided on whether I should get it digital or physical. I've always gotten physical console games lo. im so conflicted.

So noone knows when you unlock reroll/add slot from Murch? I'm upto Level 7 and he just says he's to busy to add that.

All my gear is already maxed out since they only have one slot each. XD

With that, going to bed. Played four hours straight. Tomorrow I unlock ranked and the true splatting will begin. Salmon run is fun as hell. I guess it gets harder the more you play since we had like 4 bosses at once already. D:

Thanks for the time you took to answer, much appreciated :)

He probably needs Super Sea Snails which you get from SplatFests, but there hasn't been a splatfest yet.
