That's kinda how it feels. It's all the disadvantages of the roller without the advantages.

There must be some trick to it.

Slosh from behind cover; cut off paths; aim the tip.
It's really strong on maps like the new skatepark, the stage - anywhere with uneven terrain where you can avoid line of sight but still attack.

Edit: super strong on fitness as well.

Does anyone find the handheld motion control feel a little wonky?

Has anyone else had success with the settings for said mode? I've been mixing and matching but I feel like the motion controls just feel sluggish or don't have the range like the Pro controller. I like the idea of slipping my switch in my pocket and getting a few games in on Break or while in bed, but its frustrating.

Salmon Run is really really fun. Hopefully, enough people will complain at Nintendo so they'll change the stupid schedule and just let us play whenever.

People are terrible at ranked. Ugh. Had one guy painting the map without helping at all. He probably thought it was turf war.

I put both sliders to max

I can't wait until I get out of work (in a few hours) so I can pick up the game and amiibo! I have quite the pile of goodies waiting for me at Best Buy.

Depends on what you mean.

Get the idea? A couple matches

Get the mechanics? An hour. (Changes for different weapons though.)

Get gyro aiming? Several hours if it's new to you.

Get gud? Who knows...

Are gyro controls the preference here? I know it says that in the OP but it's hard to imagine people choosing gyro over analog controls for aiming. But I've never played the first one so I don't know. Only got to play about 20-30 minutes of the Test Fire and the gyro controls seemed a bit jarring--probably because I was in handheld mode and it was tough to stay focused on the screen while I was tilting it so much. I switched it to analog for my last match but I can't say if I liked it better or not; not enough time to tell.

Picking this up at Best Buy after work today. Very excited for it!

it's a pretty lively discussion. try both and use what you like best.

My last screenshot in Splatoon yesterday vs. my first screenshot in Splatoon 2 today

Gyro controls have ruined every game that doesn't have them for me. If people consider dual-analog to be a revolution in camera control using a controller, gyro is basically the equivalent of triple-analog.

In Splatoon 2, I definitely recommend using the Pro Controller + gyro. It's a very comfortable setup for the amount of camera control you'll need at all times.

As someone who has played a lot of shooters over the years, going from 2 stick to 2 sticks + gyro IS jarring. (I didn't play in handheld either, but I can imagine the sensitivity needing to be totally different for it in handheld mode too.)

You'll do just fine and have a good time playing with 2 sticks only. I didn't give it a proper chance initially for the original Splatoon, but eventually decided to learn to play with it based on people's recommendations and... It took several hours to wrap my head around it and overcome my muscle memory, but once I did, I enjoyed it and felt more competitive as a result (Don't be afraid to mess with the sensitivity too). It works really well, but it takes a bit to "get it." Give it an honest shot, and if you still don't really like it, don't worry about using it.

Everytime I play I'm the bottom of the scoreboard. Wtf am I supposed to be doing? I get "splats" and I paint the fuck out of the map. Should I be worrying about painting every inch near the spawn or try to get across the middle of the map with our color?
I feel like I'm doing this all wrong.

Shit connectivity here to, EU.
Checked NAT, was fine. Also checked which ports nintendo wants you to forward.

... They want you to forward ports 1-65535.

Yeah I'll likely mess around with both to see what's comfortable for me. I'm glad you can adjust the sensitivity on it.

Unfortunately, I don't have the Pro Controller--will likely be a purchase down the road. I'll try it with the grip on TV mode first. This will probably feel a lot better for me than gyro + handheld mode did.

Have you done anything other than play Salmon Run?

Yea i got the game yesterday. Today however, any time on Splatoon has been spent shooting Salmon.

Really expected this game mode to be a basic "+1 new feature for the sequel" kinda deal. But they've put so much stuff into it!
Which make you wonder why the hell its a timed event!

Yeah I play a lot of shooters so I wasn't used to gyro right off the bat. Good to know it's not just me though, that it takes some time to get used to. My first round was pretty wretched haha. Thanks for the advice!

Does your salmon run rank reset when it rotates out? Would be kinda shitty to have to grind the easy matches again to get to the tougher stuff.

Joy-Con + grip is pretty good, too. I generally use Joy-Con over the Pro in most of the games I own, but for some reason I have an easier time with the larger sticks on the Pro Controller for Splatoon 2, that's all.

Kind of surprised it's still rather quick finding a game on Wii U Splatoon. Although I imagine the player base has dropped significantly.

Going to be rotating between both games. Still want to reach level 50 in Splatoon.

Excited for the single player campaign as well. Loved the boss fights in the first one.

Am I not seeing it or do you really have to get out of MP completely to change your weapons?
I can't switch them inbetween two matches or even in one match?

The matchmaking in splatoon 1 took into account your weapon so it would try to avoid too many repeats. Thats why you need to leave the matchmaking to change.
