Okay I'm super out of the loop with this game but also really wanting to play something on Switch so it's either this or ARMS and I feel like this might've put a damper on the ARMS online community.

1. How's the single player? I give the original game's campaign maybe a 5 or 6 out of 10, fun but not long or creative enough.
2. Can I play casual online with friends as teammates? (Not just same game)

I love this game!

Knocked out the campaign. It's pretty much the exact same thing as Splatoon 1, which is good in that.........it's still pretty good, and bad in that........it's the exact same thing as Splatoon 1.

Fuck absolutely everything involving Octoballers and rotating platforms though. :P

I thought the tower thing in Salmon Run shooting through objects was a bug. Nope, a game designer actually said "this is fine".
Aside from that one enemy, Salmon Run has been surprisingly fun. And this is coming from someone who typically despises horde modes. I guess the brevity of each match really helps.

You do realize there's a super that does the exact same thing, right?

I guess I'll post this again (originally from the splatfests thread) in case it helps anyone

Late but hopefully still helpful. You want to minimize wasted shots. Anytime you paint over your own ink you're "wasting" shots. It's usually not worth it to try and cover every unpainted spot because the gain isn't worth the time it takes to do so. Painting over enemy ink is also worth twice as much(it's a + for your team and a - for the enemy) as unpainted ground (only a + for your team).

Turf war is not about getting lots of points or kills, it's about controlling 50.1% of the ink on the ground. Remember that unpainted surfaces do not count against you. They're simply a missed opportunity. Not a loss. If you're just going from one place to the next painting away but not holding what you've got you are going to have a much harder time winning.

More ramblings from red

•The goal is to have more of your ink on the ground than the other team
•Control 50.1% of the ink on the ground to win. Don't lose 20% of your ink because you went to get 3% more
•Youre almost always more useful to your team alive than dead. If you're in a bad position pull back and reasses.
•Paint the walls that aid you or your teams movement. For example, on humpback pump track I'm not sure a single wall shouldn't be painted. They all are useful as far as I can recall.
•Dont be meticulous in your painting. Good enough is good enough.
•Super Jump responsibly. It is not your teammates job to defend your poor decisions. However if you can, try and protect your teammates that are super jumping. Just don't go suicidal trying to save them. Or you can use your teammates super jump markers as bait. That's always fun.
•Get on the tower

Whatever happened to the spectator mode? I remember Nintendo announcing it this past winter, but can't find it anywhere.

I just cannot get used to motion controls, especially in hand held. I'm constantly fighting it.
Make sure you aren't overdoing it with the gyro. You want to be using the right stick to turn and make small adjustments with the gyro.

I know that 'Swim Speed Up' is nice but... is this too much?? :
No, that's actually a pretty decent amount. But it really just depends on your playstyle and how fast you want to go.

Any guesses on when we'll get the first content update based on Splatoon 1's updates?

They dropped a new map after like three days with the first game. And another maybe a week later.

But that was also on-disc DLC they just unlocked, so not sure this time. Do we know if there's on-disc DLC this time too?

There's at least two maps and one new weapon type (The Umbrella Shotgun) that we know that are pretty much done.

Yeah I started getting a little better with it (practicing in single player) but i keep point the camera to the ground or in the sky.

Lol envy you guys able to do salmon run. Non in my area yet. But loving the game so far
What do you mean? Once you hit lvl 4 you can play it

It takes some getting used to. You can also adjust the sensitivity. Starting low and bumping it up until you find the sweet spot.

So if you are a lower level and want to get some good gear and not waste your coins, the Nintendo Switch App has some awesome stuff with three slots. It's kind of spendy but worth I think. I'm enjoying what I've got from there so far.

Maybe I'm liking in the wrong room in the lobby. Unfortunately my battery is low.

But will check it out later

Anyone having issues with their pro controller randomly lagging or hanging on inputs? Like I'll let off diving and continue to be a squid for several seconds. Or i'll mash A in a shop and nothing happens.

Maybe Salmon Run is more difficult than I thought. I've had a few losses now, one of which was in round one.

Whenever that flying boss that shoots the missiles appear, my teams have a hard time taking that thing down.

This game is AMAZING and I haven't even touched Hero Mode yet!!!

SALMON RUN is pure bliss. OMG I love it so much

I think it could use a bit more variety in scenarios but the core is so incredibly strong because it's all about balancing risks in every moment, between defending golden eggs, holding off hordes, painting the ground, pushing bosses to break them (and it's seldom one boss on higher difficulties meaning hitboxes are everywhere and the timer forces aggression), getting the eggs back which means fewer dudes killing off the horde (and it's a pretty legit horde) and so on. It's a short mode but intense mode which works in its favor to just get the player in the action as fast as possible and skips most of the ramp up that more longer horde modes have in setting up defenses and progression (not that the way Gear 3 or Killing Floor handles it is bad at all, far from it). And pretty much the only new player mechanic in the mode is the limited Specials. It uses the core mechanics more for the most part quite elegantly meaning skills here translate to competitive play.

Plus the gritty aesthetic makes a great contrast, the music is great, the enemy design is great, stage design is great as well. It's a pretty strong execution of a well-conceptualized mode. Just needs more to it in terms of variety.

I love that they built completely new assets for the mode. Really allows it to shine with its own personality.

Great game so far, since I can only play single player.

Don't have internet at my house so I use a mobile hotspot which is only an issue with Nintendo games. Everything else plays just fine.

Has anyone been able to get these games to play online with a hotspot? I have cricket which is an att subsidiary so not sure if that matters. I can go online and buy/download games, can see everyone's squid kids and fresh artwork just can't get into a game because "Nat traversal fails"

:/

The most horrifying bosses are those which did not appear in training...
