So did I get this right or will the Splatfest shirt disappear after the splatfest has ended? Can i still reroll while the splatfest is active?

I wonder how long i can farm these shards lol. 2k for one is better than 20k for 3 shards for sure.

I was farming ability chunks all last night, it definitely feels like a long term grind and doesn't even seem viable outside of splat fest Ts. And yeah they disappear after the splatfest ends.

Ah god.. The 2 splatzones in Moray Towers are fucking awful. Way too close together may as well be one zone.

What are you doing developers?

Yea, the splatfest shirt goes away. Then the next splatfest, you get a new shirt that is wiped clean of abilities.

For the record, I play with a wired connection and have zero disconnects so I'm one of the good guys!!

I'm playing with a wired connection, and while I've had matchmaking fail a few times, I've never once disconnected between a lobby being filled and the conclusion of the match.

Now we know about the Splatfest Tees, I'd say Splatfest is for farming. Wiping a piece of gear outside of that just seems like a chance to re-spec now.

For those that were splatsplaining to me yesterday that my strategy was invalid:

The other team was so focused on winning the center, we got in their base and covered it. They didn't even notice.

thats a problem with the players, not the strategy. at the lowest levels people forget the map is a thing, plus thats moray towers.

Played a bunch of the tower mode in ranked this morning! If its a stomp it goes even quicker than turf but prolonged matches are more fun. First rank up gave me B-!

I've seen the light. Motion > Stick

I'm consistently getting 1000+ in turf war now.

I had to switch to stick to play in handheld last night and I'm not sure. I feel like both of them have their advantages. I think my aim is more consistent with the stick (maybe due to shaky hands) but quicker with motion.

Handheld or docked?
Docked. Don't really play in handheld that much.

I agree. My movement increased with motion. It feels much more smoother than with the stick. Also, in situations where it's me against the other person, being able to accurately aim gives me the advantage in those situations.

Quick question.

So uh, what's the point in getting gear that only lets you have 1 or 2 abilities? I've been buying most gear with 3 abilitiy slots.

Am I missing something here or what? :<

.

Ah ok I was curious because I play exclusively in handheld and as much as I'd love to use motion controls I find the screen moving at the same time really hard to get used to.

Always wondered if many people who use motion controls in this game play in handheld.

The last game of last night...

Thank you last second bomb throw.

Thanks! Do you know whether i can still reroll at Spiky while the Splatfest is taking place?

I also think 20k for one normal wipe is way too much. Normally you do these only when you don't like the abilities anyway so getting shards for these is kinda redundant. Would be better if we could get shards not related to anything and then after 20 or so just get an ability we actually want.
Also why is the special attack + ability 20 shards lol...

thats even worse, i can forgive sneaking behind in moray towers, its hard to guard and you have to win the 1v1 against the invader or you are screwed. but musselforge? that map is super short, no excuse

I'm still going 34-16 today. I must be doing something right. Just won another match at Port Mackerel.

Fashion!
Eventually you can increase the slots up to 3.

You can add slots to those gears.

Wait what?!

How do I upgrade gear with 1 ability to 3? I've more than once passed on a really cool looking piece of gear because it only had 1 ability slot.

How do you even do that? I tried the option with the scrubbing guy and he said something to the effect of "I'm not doing that now".

Same!

I believe you need snails, which you earn during splatfests. So that option will likely unlock after the first Splatfest

Do you think they'll eventually make the Square 60fps? It's crazy how noticeable the difference is.

Nope. Was the same in the first game.

It's kinda worrying that the Switch can't handle 60fps there. It's not even a large area to be fair, and doesn't look that intense. The NPC's there aren't doing much.

That option isn't available yet unfortunately. Murch upgrades them for you in exchange for Seasnails but you don't get any until you've participated in the first Splatfest. If it's anything like the previous game you'll be able to unlock them in exchange for a lot of money afterwards.

Ugh. Just when the campaign was starting to get good, they force me to use the blaster. Not even the rapid blaster. The shitty slow one. I fucking hate the blaster. And then to top it off they expect me to fucking mid-air grapple from point to point while hitting a target off to the side with the blaster. Fuck this.

im just saying, if they are letting you sneak behind and they are not contesting at all, its a problem with the players.

Personally, I always check once or twice if they try to defend their back, but more often than not they do.

Oh nice!

It's time for me to go on a 1 and 2 ability gear shopping spree now that I know that! Helloooo awesome looking clothes!

(someone who doesn't care for ranked isn't exactly playing the best players)

I would love to know if it's worth having multiple abilities, and whether there is a difference in terms of having multiples of the same abilities on the same item or across different items.

So say for example I have headgear that has 3 of the same abilities, say swim speed up, does that equal having swim speed up in 3 of my items, head gear, shirt and sneakers? i.e is having swim speed up once in my hat, shirt and sneakers the exact same as if I had swim speed up 3 times in my hat?

Or do most people ultimately having all of the abilities spread across their gear so no duplicates at all?

I've read on this thread that abilities stack with diminishing returns, but are those diminishing returns worth it?

I hope you are all taking advantage of the splatfest shirt by constantly upgrading it and then scrubbing it over and over again to get ability chunks. It only costs 2,000 instead of 20,000 to scrub it.

Better do it before the shirt is taken from you!

I thought duplicate abilities canceled out if you have the same for a piece of gear? I could have sworn I read that somewhere.

Just won a match where the opposing team didn't paint one of their sides on Port Mackerel. They won the center and were even pushing to our base. They lost explicitly because they did not paint their base.

Same!
It should unlock after the Splatfest. In Splatoon 1, upgrading gear required a unique currency only earned as a splatfest reward. Or you could spend 30,000 coins if you were level 20 or above.

This way you can get shards for the abbilities you want, so you can later add that abbility to the piece of gear that you like. So if you have a shirt with an ability you´d like to put in another shirt, you´re guaranteed you´ll get the shards you need.
Also 20K may sound like a lot now, but playing ranked you´ll end up swimming in money sooner or later. Last time I played S1, I had 3M and a bunch (20+) of snails. I think it´s nice it takes some time, this way you another objective for the long run.

So to clarify you think abilities would only "stack" if they are on different pieces of gear?

If so it's bullshit that my 4 slot gear unlocked the same abilities 3 times lol

I just don't feel this shit is explained well in the game to be honest.

Nobody at any point ever has said you shouldn't paint your base, they've said you shouldn't be completely anally retentive about doing it because it's easy to fill the majority as you leave anyway on most maps, leaving, only a few small patches that need filling. Filling in tiny gaps is a waste of time because like 15 tiny gaps is about 1 shot into the enemy.

Nobody's suggesting you go in a straight line toward mid and ignore everything other than painting a path in front of you. You should strike a balance between getting to mid as quickly as possible and covering as much of your base as possible. This is usually basically the amount it takes to fill your special.

If the other team's dumb ass didn't look at the map and realise nobody happened to go one way at the start, that's their fault. Nobody is suggesting you should leave major pathways uninked, it's just that as long as you look where your other team mates going and pick a route that they aren't you can cover 90% of your base without even really tying.

Just won a match where the opposing team didn't paint one of their sides on Port Mackerel. They won the center and were even pushing to our base. They lost explicitly because they did not paint their base.

I have won a single match like that. Just once I encountered a team that forgot to paint, they pushed us back super hard but I made sure to paint ours and we tied the middle of the map. They had sections of their base completly unpainted. It happens. But you wouldnt let it happen to you would you? You would go around chasing and killing anyone trying to paint your base right?

Just had this very intense back and forth in Splat Zones. We lost but damn that was ridiculous. All of us both sides had more than 10 splats. I love those kinds of battles.

The other thread on the "weird" decisions is absolutely .. dreadful, I thought I entered a thread stating why Splatoon is 48/100 score game .. lol

So to clarify you think abilities would only "stack" if they are on different pieces of gear?

If so it's bullshit that my 4 slot gear unlocked the same abilities 3 times lol

You're right, it's not explained well at all.

I'm under the impression that all the abilities that are the same amongst the 3 pieces of gear you have on get canceled out. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

No. The crux of the argument from yesterday was that:
  1. Rush to the center of the map at the beginning. Once you have center, it's harder to lose. Paint your base when you die.
  2. Paint your base right away. There are enough points to get around the middle to distract or take over the enemy base.

I was arguing #2. Some posters told me that all the veterans recommend #1 and that #2 was invalid. I always make sure to paint my base.

Edit: as far as dealing with people who are at your base. It's entirely circumstantial. If there are enough there to cover it, then I usually head for the enemy base. If it's just me, I try to kill the person in the base.

The point of going for the base isn't because you think your ink will still be there at the end of the match. The point is that you are distracting respawns from going to the center or causing people to leave the center, thereby distracting them from a team battle. If you can successfully kills the person coming after you, they often send 2 or 3, making whatever they were guarding a free area.

Nah you are all wrong. The idea is: Paint your base early, not late. You dont want to have to paint your base on the last 30 seconds, but you dont want to give up control of the middle at the start either. Having all 4 in the middle early is a waste imo. Just as having all 4 in your base is too. So if I see that my teammates are rushing to the midle, I take more time painting the base, or do the oposite too.

I'd love a link to a guide or something, to explain all of this.

Time for me to google this I think....

don't paint your base right away=/=never paint your base

But your Port Mackerel example has nothing to do with #1. If #1 was being followed correctly, someone would have painted the right when they respawned. What you're literally describing is dumb Turf Wars players with no map awareness. No one here is arguing that you shouldn't paint your base in Turf Wars.

That is my stance as well. You are agreeing with me.

I agree that's not what that means. But it's better to spend the first 30 seconds painting your base than the last.

No one here is arguing that you shouldn't paint your base in Turf Wars.

I know, the argument was when to paint your base.
