To be fair to Ketchup vs catsup, I've been facing a lot of Mayo vs Mayo here too. Like 40% of my matches are like that lol.

Oh, that makes me feel better then! It seemed like ketchup was most popular in NA, but playing this made me feel like that was the worst team to pick if you barely got to fight the other team. (And screw that cause I legit don't even like mayo lol)

During the cake v. ice cream splatfest, I saw people comment that they were gonna pick the least popular team because that made their winning odds better, which didn't make sense to me at the time (didn't play Splatoon 1). I missed out on the first Splatfest so didn't get to see that play out.

Hit Mayo Queen with a 21-21 record. Not great, to be honest, but I spent the whole session trying out weapons I hadn't used much of yet. This was definitely the most Turf War I'd played since hitting 10 and unlocking Ranked, too. I'd climbed to A- in every mode there, but Turf War requires a somewhat different mindset and approach to map awareness, and there was some rust to shake off.

Love the look and feel of the Splatfest, though: the themed colours everywhere from the ink to the plaza, the new surfaces for player illustrations like the flags that avatars in the plaza shake behind their backs—what a total commitment to the festival atmosphere. Shifty Station is great, too, and I hope it sticks around in some form once Splatfests are done. In general I appreciate it when the design innovations of each part of the game—4v4, Hero Mode, and Salmon Run—don't feel so segregated and challenge the same dynamic skill set in platforming and handling stage features.

I wore a Tenacity helmet at first to hedge against disconnections, but drop-outs were pretty rare from what I saw, so it didn't pay off and I swapped it out. Disconnections were frequent after but thankfully not during the matches.

Sub-weapons felt unusually laggy today, like I had to hold down the R button to get them to activate; not sure if it was the network or just me.

Also, a three-stage rotation on a two-hour cycle (even if Shifty Station stays every time) feels perfect as far as the rotation is concerned, and as the stage roster is expanded I hope this becomes the standard.

It's because popularity brings in a lot of rookies, and the pros take advantage of that by going to the less popular side, which is more condensed with skilled players as a result.

Like so.

Whew, finally hit max rank for ketchup. Took 43 games going 24-19. Man, the way this game stresses me out it felt like I lost a lot more than that. Even the wins are stressful. I gotta figure out someway to relax when I play this... I generally don't play these types of multiplayer, frantic games and I get way too wound up.

When/how do we get the rewards. Log on tomorrow night?

Luckily in this game that shouldn't matter because popularity, solo wins, and group wins are weighted equally instead of having an arbitrary multiplier.

I'm in the same boat with the stress. I'm lying here now, an hour after finishing, and I'm so disappointed with myself for getting that flustered over a game. Anger management isn't my strong suit, but even with that said, games shouldn't affect me as much as they do. Especially a game like Splatoon.

I need a total personality change. My brother hates that I even play near him because he's sick of hearing me gripe. My other family members probably look at me, angry at a "kid's game" on TV and just study on where I went wrong. A prime example of what not to be.

...anyways. To get your rewards, yeah, just log in after the Fest ends. It's 24 hours long, sooooo.. 19 hours from this post, I think. Make sure to grab your Rewards ASAP, because they don't stay there forever.

Speaking of anger I heard my wife a few times yell about the "mother fkr with the bucket" and lold because she normally never swears at all xD

Cool, thanks.

Yeah I mean it's not like I'm throwing controllers or anything, but definitely getting flustered from losing or dying multiple times in a row, or back luck, etc..

For me it's sort of an exponential, build up sort of thing. If I get wrecked on the first game, it's no big deal. If I've lost 3 in a row and the 4th one starts to go south, little things are 10x more annoying. I have friends who can play for hours and not let a single little thing bother them. I'm curious if it's possible to get there, or if people are just wired differently.

I barely get excited for close wins because of all the BS that happened during it. I would enjoy the game way more if I could not take it so seriously.

yeah i dunno what it is about splatoon that makes me rage so hard. but i guess i don't really play other multiplayer games so maybe i'm just this way for all multiplayer games and i just don't know because i don't play them

Fought a team with 2 sloshers and 2 chargers and it was a nightmare.

Real shame that the weapons and lag completely kill my motivation.

23-19 and I'm a Mayo King.

Note to self: Don't work a 12 hour day and then grind to King in one session. That really sucks the fun out of it.

Splatfests are a lot of fun, there are some things I wish were different (Not locking the Splatfest to the same 3 maps is really weird to me), but still. Really cool. Now time to play some Off the Hook music in Ika Radio

Been on a ridiculous losing streak on Team Ketchup lately, still on Defender.

So I took a break on Salmon Run. Got at least 7 capsules.

BTW, for Splatnet, what does the bonus "Squid Research HQ x 10" mean?

It means the total amount of ink you've shot equals up to that. The size of the squid Research HQ x 10.

it means you've inked the square footage of nintendo's kyoto labs x 10 i think

i think the reason i like splatoon is that it's both very, extremely quick so every single thing you do matters but also it can swing like fucking crazy. it's a game all about insane runbacks and it's just a popcorn chicken feeling where the time investment is low as fuck. i think years of tf2 and that again-round of overwatch where you'd just get very slowly steamrolled over the course of 20-40 minutes has really tired me out of that kind of gameplay; i'm in to get in and get out asap.

of course i end up playing for 40 minute chunks anyway but still

With Splatoon 1 i had alot of anger cursed alot even so hard the neighboor came complainin lol (just shrugged it of and did not care). But now i am having peace in my mind while playing the multiplayer so i don't curse at all anymore i just learned to accept my losses etc. But however i still get slightly mad after a loss sphree or other bs but i don't yell like crazy or curse like a crazy lunatic anymore:P

The worst things i ever did in anger videogame wise was breaking my ds as a kid and a few years ago punching my own tv and then yeah it was dead....

Well after that tv one i never got physical angry anymore that's for sure. Feels good for 5 secs then it settles in and then you feel very horrible lol.

I don't think I've had a single game on team ketchup where we didn't fuck it all up in the last 30 seconds. It's getting infuriating. To the point of this no longer being fun. I can't see Mayo losing this.

I've been trying to pinpoint exactly what makes Splatoon that much more frustrating than other games I play, and I feel like some of it is partly because of the way the systems work together. Obviously losing isn't fun and is partially to blame, but it feels like there are other factors that are contributing to the annoyance.

Take Salmon Run, for example. I log on. Game takes a long time to load and get through the intros. Salmon Run is open for a limited time. I go in there and wait a minute for a party. Party wipes in the first wave. Not only do I get barely any points (understandable), I lose a ton of rank so that the NEXT match will get even less of a bonus, and I'm put back into a longer que than the actual play time I just had. I had a string of 3 just awful matches in a row on overachiever. This was probably 6-8 minutes total with maybe 40 seconds of actual playtime, 22 points earned, and a rank and a half lost. I just turned the console off and went and did something else. This could be mitigated if there was any sort of slight exp or money per match just so annoying collosial failures would be easier to swallow.

Same with ranked not giving xp for losses. It already sucks to lose and lose rank...

Getting 2 points for a loss and then 6 points for a win on splatfest can get old really fast as well, especially getting multiple matches in a row with groups that are 200-300 points higher than your group. I'm not saying they should be equal.. I'm just saying things could be tweaked to make the experience feel less punishing.

The best comparison I can make is with Dark Souls or Bloodborne. In those games, it is punishing to die (you lose your souls) but the game throws you a bone by letting you get them back AND letting you keep the stuff you got. Each death would be waaay more stressful and annoying if you lost your souls forever, additionally lost your stuff you found, and maybe even lost a level. When I'm on a big losing streak in Splatoon, I'm thinking about all these other punishments in addition to the annoyance of losing.

Idk, it's late and I'm pretty tired. I just think that there is something that seems off (to me at least) about the progression system in this game. It feels like the valves are mostly closed and they're feeding me tiny portions of bread and water, when the whole experience would be more fluid and enjoyable if systems were tweaked a bit.

It's anger inducing because it is a purely team-based game. You may be so good solo, but when the other guys fuck up you will still lose overall.

I only get frustrated in Splatoon if I'm just going through the motions. If I'm just trying to do whatever, then all that matters is winning or losing and I get salty if I do well and we still lose. If I'm working on something like paying attention to my positioning better then I don't really get that salty.

It helps to be new because I can worry about things other than winning or losing lol.

My first four rounds were losses (followed by one win then two more losses), so perhaps that's what set me off for the whole thing. I don't know. Game would certainly be funner played less seriously.

And yeah I actually sighed after a two point win. Not a happy sigh, just a, "yeah but... Who cares? that was a ridiculous win and it was just because of a dumb mistake."

The worst things i ever did in anger videogame wise was breaking my ds as a kid and a few years ago punching my own tv and then yeah it was dead....

My brother bit his DS's top screen as a kid when Azelf wouldn't stay in the 20~ Dusk Balls he had in his bag. On one hand, he legitimately spent four~ hours just trying to catch this thing (resetting after running out of Balls), on the OTHER hand who the heck bites their electronic device. It caused this huge line to go across the screen, where one side was all haywire in colors, and the other pitch black.

He just said the screen stopped working. It wasn't until years later he came clean lol.

Time to hit the hay. Hopefully I'll be fully refreshed tomorrow; have some friends that wanted to play together in the afternoon. Don't want to be all glum then as well! Playing with people I actually know should help a lot, since we can laugh stuff up and we all know how the others play and stuff.

It's not just you. I have to take pretty long breaks after playing Splatoon for a few days in a row. It can be a pretty frustrating game. Part of that is due to me sucking though lol

nah this game makes my blood boil and i play a shit ton of multiplayer shooters, its when you get hung up on the lone wolf aspect which i do a lot

i can crush games and average insane personal scores in this game and it wouldnt mean shit to a game if i have even 1 dead ass player on my team

literally got to s+ 3 times and i still go on like 6 game losing streaks, just went on a 10 game losing streak in the splatfest so i stopped and played some salmon run to calm down

also i got ketchup queen so im kinda chilling for now

I don't feel any frustration when playing Splatoon 2, except when I see an AFK was in my team at the end of the match. That's not rare actually and Nintendo should do something about that.
But the game itself is just so fun that I can't feel the same rage I felt in L4D or Titanfall 2 for example. Not being bullied and getting something even when you lose helps a lot.

also one of the things i've found is that after playing ranked, turf wars doesn't make me rage anymore because it doesn't matter

I'll take a break for now. Gonna run some errands. I guess it's time for team catsup to catch-up. lol

19-10 for #TeamMayo. I'll add some more wins later :p
