Splatoon 2 |OT2| From Smallfry to FlyFish in 5 Easy Steps!

I thought L-3 is a bad weapon for Salmon run, end up liking it when I play it last weekend. I thought H-3 will also be good, but no, it's... not bad, but not good, either.

Yeah it's a grind.

It's not even the grind that a pain, its the money. I hate the fact that it costs 20k for scrubbing stuff. And if I want anything close to perfect gear (at least 2 matching subs) I might as well scrub every time the first ability isn't what I want.

It's like, I got a Rockenburg shirt and I drink a Swim Speed up drink and the first ability I get is Special Up. That's 20k down the drain right there. Even with SR I'm not made of money!

I know this feeling all too well lol

With drinks and me, if I get 2 subs I already consider that a small victory vs the rng but yeah it's frustrating to get either 1 or 0 subs from them.

I assume many people don't recon new maps before jumping in.
I admit I don't either when they open a new map, but I do it at some point before playing rainmaker. It's so annoying when people that take the rainmaker don't have a single clue about the routes (especially when there's lesser known, really efficient ones).

I have no idea. It has one thing that that's better than any other charger, that being how long you can hold a full charge while swimming, but everything else (range, charge time, etc) is worse, and no one I've seen with a Goo Tuber uses the "hold a charge while swimming" mechanic.
I've seen someone using it (charging in a safe place, then moving and firing, and back) but honestly, I've barely seen people using it.

It's useful when you're attacked, though... if you're charged, you can move THEN attack back.

Figures. Looks like I'm spending money to get the perks I want then. [..] It's not even the grind that a pain, its the money. I hate the fact that it costs 20k for scrubbing stuff.
Grind the perks using the fest tee the splatfest week...

It's only 2k, and you can scrub it each ~3 match (you'll get >4k during those matchs, so no problem of money)

And if I want anything close to perfect gear (at least 2 matching subs) I might as well scrub every time the first ability isn't what I want.
Given the price, for normal gear, I usually don't. And I have a gear where 2nd and 3rd were what I wanted, so I'm happy I didn't.

Drinks aren't reliable, but if you want to farm perks, drink + correct brand is really handy.

But I think drinks are mostly useful to increase the chances to get the correct 3rd when you've been lucky with the first two.

Hooray for Murch merch.

But what else is there to spend money on besides scrubbing gear? You need seashells for adding slots and rerolling now. Once you've bought all the gear and weapons there's nothing but scrubbing and special orders.

Ordering gear you see can get to 50k and 100k if you get lucky on the order. I don't think 20k to scrub is that bad, but there are certainly other areas to blow a load of cash. A decent item from the store can even cost you toward that.

I'd prefer it to be 10/15k as I feel it would afford me more flexibility in how I approach gear but at the same time my main issue is in not being able to add slots with cash.

Got a suspicious disconnect in my last game. Couple of guys with tags in front of their names, obviously friends, and one of them gets paired on my team against the other two. And just so happens to DC.

Hmm.

Wouldn't have mattered because one guy on the other team went 14-0 but still. Hit a raw nerve.

I hear you. I sucks burning a drink ticket and ton of money and getting nothing out of it.

I wish they'd be more upfront about the what exactly the bonuses did for you. I want to know exactly what % chance increase we're getting for seeing certain perks when we use drinks. We don't know if it's 50%, 5% or .5%.

Do we even know what the % chance increases are for brand bonuses? I figure someone must've figured it out in Splatoon 1 and I doubt it changed in this game.

Had a match just now with a level 8 player on our team that got 502p and went 0-3.

The level 50 player on their team went 10-4 and was constantly harassing our backline, often killing two people at once.

If you say that levels don't matter, FUCK YOU. Levels totally matter and the matchmaking should absolutely take them into account when making teams. If you've played enough of the game to reach level 50 you have much more of a mastery of the controls, the stages, and the weapons than someone that's reached level 8. The fact that the game doesn't take into account how long people have played the game when making teams is shameful and Nintendo should be embarrassed at how Splatoon's matchmaking compares to every other multiplayer shooter's.

Favored is 29%, unfavored is 3%, other twelve abilities are 6%. Yes, that's 104%, those are rounded (10/35, 1/35, 2/35)

Drink is unclear. Maybe it replace the favored ability.

I swear one Steel Eel spawning massively increases the odds of more spawning at the same time.

I had one game where it was Wave 3, we'd met the quota and were trying to run out the clock, I just finished killing a Steel Eel when I look up and see 3 more fucking Steel Eels coming straight at me. It's at this point that I also realize all my teammates are dead. Since I obviously had no hope of surviving inside the base, I ran outside and circled around to the next door, fortunately there weren't any other bosses in my way, and revived everyone in the seconds before the wave ended. Felt good man.

I had a big damn hero moment like that one round. I was dead outside the house and the entrance I was by had two Scrappers "stunned" blocking me, with their backs to me. The last living player inside threw a bomb over the Scrappers to revive me but then died right after. I had the Splatling so I revved it up and killed the Scrappers almost at the same time and then revived everyone in a hail of ink all while slowly marching forward killing all the mobs inside.

Nekketsu Kõha;247267820 said:

XD!

Didn't know that was even possible.

I think only four can exist at the same time but they were just coming over and over.

I had the N-Zap that round so I was able to move around alright but with a Steelhead, Scrapper, and Drizzler rain trolling inside the house I had the lure the Eels outside. I had to do all kinds of wall climbs, drop shots, and spam both my Inkpacks to take out two eels. Finally I thought I could revive the three players inside spamming "Help" but the Steelhead blocked one side and as soon as I ran the other way, EEL! I went over the wall to drop into the room when there were THREE MORE EELS inside clipping through each other to form this death pit for me to drop into.

Yeah, I was mad.

While I have a laundry list of things of choices to make the Flyfish not such a shit, all I really want from the Eels is to not allow them to clip through themselves. You can do a lot more risky maneuvers to evade them if you could juke them and run down their sides, but they just pivot on a pixel and plow through their own body to keep chasing. It's so dumb.

For curiosity's sake, would you have still wrote this same post, with its same tone, if the level 50 was on your team and the 8 was on the other? Or would you have stomped the other team, said "wow that was unlucky for them" and moved on with your day?

So I've been in and out of S-Rank for a while, and was even one game away from S+(Splat zones) before taking a series of loses.
"No problem," I though.
"I'll just work my way back up!" So, I did.
"This is great! I exclaimed, because I had 3 cracks in my guage, and another would mean a serious hit to my progress. Eventually, I was - yet again - one game away from breaking into S+; about 2/3 through the match, all is going our way. That is; until that "connection is unstable" message popped up on the screen.

Kidding ME?!!

Got booted back to lobby where my S-Rank guage now below the halfway mark(automatic loss!). It's like this game has a knack for finding the PERFECT time to screw with you...just like the original. I'm almost beginning to ponder the possibility of this umm..trollism...being intentional. It reminds me of that Mario Bros prank where someone can hit the pause button (on P2 controller) the moment you attempt to jump over a hole, causing you to haplessly plunge to your death.

*Sigh*

Is it just me or were a ton of changes made to make the game grindier in general?

3 ranks instead of just one.
Level up amount standardized, and slower in general.
Cleaning gear takes a fair amount of money, and doesn't take snails.
For how long it takes to get one, you need a huge number of chunks for a single sub slot.
You can't use money to add slots (unlike the previous game).

Not sure if this has been asked here yet or is a known issue, but I have just made the jump from splatoon on wii u over to splatoon 2....and matchmaking is taking a really long time to find players, usually really empty lobbies for ages (sometimes timing out).

Is the player base small compared to wii u right now?...or all in ranked which i cant access yet (kind of hard to get to lvl 10 when its taking so long to find players!).

Both turf wars and salmon run for me last night were basically empty. I spent more time waiting than playing (its also annoying being dumped into salmon run as the only player and of course losing pretty quick!
Its a stark contrast to splatoon 1 for me where I can right now get into a game super quick no matter of it was turf wars or ranked.

Final S rank achieved. Just go to S rank in Tower Control 😬.
Edit: O man that was such a hype rainmaker game just now. My teammate splatted the rainmaker carrier mid scoring animation. I proceeded to grab the rainmaker and my team cleared a path and took out 3/4 enemies which led to a clear path for the score lol.

No, you're right that I wouldn't have been nearly as angry about it, but that doesn't change the fact that this is a problem that Nintendo really should've fixed. They could have easily put in a system where the lowest level player gets paired with the highest level player as a means of helping to balance out teams, instead of having one team get stuck with a player that's probably weaker against a team that gets a player that's probably better.

Yes and no...

There are more different hooks in the game than there were before, but I don't know that it makes anything inherently grindier. Separate ranks for different modes is a sensible change that prevents players from simply cheesing one particular rotation but isn't required by any means. All the sub chunk economy stuff takes time and money, but ultimately it's still technically a better system than the first game's for your ability to specifically tailor gear to your liking. Outside of hacking or scumming, getting gear you wanted in Splatoon 1 also required a lot of money and the blessing of the RNG gods. Snails have more weight than they used to because they don't have a direct cash replacement but that's more to incentivize Splatfest participation than to promote long-term grinding.

It's less of a player-base issue and more an issue with the changes they've made to player searching and how they go about filling turf war rooms. In addition to there being much higher weight given to ping than there used to be, I suspect that the game's also being rather selective about it as well, which leads to the game being kind of stubborn and searching for someone more opportune rather than simply trying to fill the lobby as fast as possible.

I also think the Switch's networking in general is a little wonky in this regard with establishing the necessary p2p connections to form a game.

Do you live in a low population country/city? Splatoon 2 seems to heavily take ping into account when matchmaking so might be an issue if there aren't many people playing near you. Or possibly if you have a bad connection.

I'd suggest contacting Nintendo about it to make them aware of the issue and so they do something about the matchmaking
(yeah right)

I'm in New Zealand (though in a higher end population city, so yeah I guess its could be low compared to other countries. It must be related to what you and doorman mentioned about the way it match makes now.

It feels like I'm better off sticking with splatoon 1, which is a shame... (I could maybe flip over to my wiiU and fit in a match of splatoon 1 while splatoon 2 searches for players!)

Try to find some S+ .52Gal stream to learn, but can't find a single one. It's not tier 1 in popularity in S1, however those terrible sub/special really kills .52Gal in S2. :(

Good god I just played with the most useless ranimaker teammates ever. I was the only that bothered to grab it. Meanwhile even when we had numbers and I was dead they just stood around and let the other team grab possession because why not?.

I hate my teams on Moray Tower. Every game my team is ahead and they literally blow it at the last minute. Worse, they did it again when we had a 4 to 3 advantage we lost only got 35%.

Been trying out other rollers and holy god, Carbon Roller is as fun as it gets. It's like a whole new game.

I'm sorry I neglected you in the first game...

Weird question, but do the Hero Replacas keep turf inked seperate from the regular versions? I want to get my turf inked to maximum for every weapon in a few years. Most likely impossible I know, but already played 160 hours so theres a small chance.

...wait there are how many chargers?!

Also yeah. 80 hours first month, 80 maybe 85 second month. Obviously first month only had 12 days and playing less but thats quite something. Barely playing Arms and Zelda. MK8D, RPG Maker, Persona Q, and more are just dead now. Splatoon 2 has consumed my life.
