Completely unrelated... I wonder about the gears.

There's a "normal" main ability with all of them, which is the one you get from the Plazza shop.

But they can also come with a different ability (only from Splatnet, I guess?). I don't think I've ever seen more than a single alternate for a given item. Is this true?

Is there a list somewhere?

I don't understand all this Moray Tower hate?

For me it's because it's because every area is so narrow and confined in spite of the verticality. You're focused into narrow lanes for the most part and I don't think that suits the game relative to the variety of open and narrow areas in other maps. It's also got a persistent birds-eye view across the entire map which I find limiting on a strategic front.

I love the verticality, hate the map.

Splatzones is a fucking nightmare.

I love Splatzones. I find it has the most constant 'pressure' of the three Ranked modes; it's just manic. Rainmaker can have moments of pause as a team is spaced with the Rainmaker, Tower Control can often end up being tedious ping-pong, but Splatzones is just pedal to the metal.

Rainmaker is the best overall, but I still like Splatzones. Tower Control, though... I can take it or leave it.

I've just started the game and I am new to Splatoon. One thing I don't understand is the number of points you got at the end of online matches. There's a number of points and a rank for each of members of our team...and everytime I am the one with the most points...but I don't think that has something to do with my actual skill since I am new and not very good (I think). Anyone care to explain to me how it actually works ?

I'd like it more if I didn't always get teamed up with cowards.

In Turf War, you get points for inking territory, plus a 1000 winner's bonus. Splatting the opposition does nothing for your score (other than that when you splat someone, it creates a small inksplosion that counts as inking territory).

Lots of Turf War players treat it like deathmatch and just go for kills all the time, misunderstanding the objective. If you're getting a consistently higher score than them, you're probably better than you think.

It's not always the best estimation of your impact on the match, though (definitively not saying kills are, it's usually far worse)...

I'd like to know how people in each team are ordered in postmatch in ranked, too.

I think something is going on with the matchmaking, was using the roller and suddenly start to see no less than 2 (even 3) rollers on my team while the other team had maybe 1 if at all, then I switch to charger and the same thing happens, 3 chargers on my team and 0 on the other ( oh and the 4 one disconnects).

There's way more than a single alternate ability for any given piece of gear. I've seen multiple alternates on SplatNet of the same piece, so there's no "master list" of all options for gear.

Eventually I imagine they will get through every piece of gear with every possible main ability, it's just a question of seeing them on SplatNet or in the lobby.

Still no notes on the maintenance?

It's maintenance. What exactly would they have to put notes out for? It doesn't change the way the game works.

Turf War teams arw randomized once the lobby is full prior to the game starting. You're just getting some odd luck of the draw.

I've seen multiple alternatives of an item's main ability on splatNet. Come to think of it, I even re-bought one 19K jacket because of that.

Thanks, that might be it since a lot of times I'm like "why are they shooting others instead of splatting everything since it is the main objective if we want to win...". I just got a team of good splatters and I finished last.

Man this whole MP-system could be so much better.
- cut out the timed map-changes and set up different MP-modes
- allow at least weapon-changes between matches
- allow to switch off the whole "show" where they describe the new maps. Nobody cares..

So with the Tri-slosher and now the Sloshing Machine, why would anyone ever main the vanilla Slosher?

Because it has better range and arcing than the Tri, while being a consistent 2HKO unlike the Machine?

It's consistent, reliable, and it can cover many angles that neither the Tri nor the Machine can, with the latter barely getting 3HKOs on some of them.

Also Suction Bombs and Tenta Missiles is a goddamn great kit.

Weird question, but do the Hero Replacas keep turf inked seperate from the regular versions? I want to get my turf inked to maximum for every weapon in a few years. Most likely impossible I know, but already played 160 hours so theres a small chance.

...wait there are how many chargers?!

Also yeah. 80 hours first month, 80 maybe 85 second month. Obviously first month only had 12 days and playing less but thats quite something. Barely playing Arms and Zelda. MK8D, RPG Maker, Persona Q, and more are just dead now. Splatoon 2 has consumed my life.

Don't worry! There were quite a few squids in the first game who posted bragging about having maxed out inkage with every single weapon - and even though Splatoon 2 will have more weapons than the first game eventually, I'm sure it's still an achievable goal.

Never one that has appealed to me, honestly. I reckon I'll just spend the next year or so struggling to grind out perfect gear sets to match my favorite weapons.

I'm slowly but surely getting there with my first two sets to go with .96/Pro and Sploosh/Jr.

edit: to answer your question, yes. The Hero versions of each weapon have their own individual usage numbers. I remember in the first game how my BEAUTIFUL lovely and awesome Octoshot was maxed out whereas my Tentatek wasn't.

I don't actually know of anyone who did this in the first game. That would require a lot of dedication and I don't think maxing out every weapon is a very realistic goal for either game.

It was definitely a "thing" with the Splatoon 1 community. I remember seeing more than a few posts about it on /r/splatoon, but yeah - it's an insane goal and it took quite a long time to reach. Just guessing because I don't remember specifically, but it probably wasn't until the end of 2016 or so that I started seeing people's SplatNet screenshots showing off their maxed out weapons lists.

edit: shit, after some quick searching, I can't seem to locate anything to back up my claims! Perhaps I'm just remembering wrong and it was just that people maxed out all of their mains or all weapons in certain categories.... I could swear I remember it being a thing you'd see once in a while on /r/Splatoon. Perhaps I'm finally losing my mind? Might explain a few things ;)

I got the black bird jacket and dark blue urban vest with ninja squid lol
I've currently 8 clothes with Ninja Squid, enough to have basically all possible triple subs (currently have doubles of most useful ones). I'll probably stop at clothes I like now ;)

Not sure if I have the ones you describe, the name changes between versions are annoying (especially when they change *brands*, like Tentatek is OculR here)

I want the receipts... Even at 1000p. per match (and that's a stretch with chargers and similar weapons) that's 1000 matches per weapon, so at least 60h per weapon, so over 5000h.

So an average of 7h daily from Splatoon release to Splatoon 2 release. And that's a low estimate, I don't believe you can get 1000p. per match with most weapons, and quickly go from one match to another during the 2 years.

Edit: not saying it's impossible, I've seen people in WoW or other MMORPG doing this kind of numbers, but I'd still want more than just "I've done it".

I finally got a chance to play the new stages Manta Maria and the Lost Outpost in Salmon Run. It took quite awhile to get Manta Maria into the rotation with whatever map it was paired up with, then it seemed to take atleast 3-4 continuous rounds on the other map before it came up. Manta Maria was worth the wait tho, I found it to be a pretty huge map with a couple paths to approach the middle/ other side of the map by, plus a few overhead walkways to get you part way to the middle of the map. Its just nice to see new content going in already and no charge... take note EA.

I really liked the Lost Outpost for Salmon Run, it also seems alot bigger (map size) even when the tide is in, I noticed most of the crews I joined did alot better than with previous maps with more space to work with. The new rotation of weapons though ugh, not a fan of the sniper for Salmon Run, it just doesn't have the speed to handle all the incoming waves. Plus they took the roller out of the rotation.

On a related note, to anyone who was as obsessed with the first game was I was - you should consider saving your stats page from SplatNet before they shut it down. Maybe it's just me, but I definitely want to keep a .pdf of that page around at least just for nostalgia's sake.

On iOS, you can very easily save anything from Safari as a .pdf using iBooks.

Had a guy going HAM on that hidden Goldie round, opened every single faucet he possibly could.

We somehow finished that round.

Then we got a griller round and FUCKING got annihilated.

Also worst part about the new map is the BULLY flyfish locations where they're hiding behind a wall deep in the corner of the map somewhere

How did you get 3x the same special? With those fragments?

And what are the "best" specials I should concentrate on?
They're actually called abilities. Specials are the specials weapons (ink armor, baller, inkjet etc).

There isn't a best ability. It just depends on your playstyle and the weapon you're using. However things like ink main and swim speed up are universally useful. The best thing to do is just experiment with the different abilities and find what you like. Then worry about min maxing.

Just a heads up - this piece of gear is finally available with a main other than cold blooded (which is pretty useless in this game) so I highly recommend grabbing it while you can!

I just got the Mini Splatling and I gotta say... I love this thing.

It's fast, the splat bombs give it great flexibility and it has just enough range and fire rate to punish Aerosprays and Octobrushes that think they can rush you down.

This and the Sloshing machine have been neat surprises from my usually "defensive" style.

same

shit's fresh as fuck

Absolutely. Anyone else old enough to remember a time in the late 80s/early 90s when damn near everyone you saw in public was wearing something similar to this? Those colors, that material... it looks fresh as the day is long on my Inkling girl, but maaaan it was rough seeing it on every single woman in my mom's aerobics class.
