Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

Alright I'm going to take a break. GGs everyone! It was fun using the Charger and getting into Sniper battles with DaBoss and Violet :p

Thank you. I was curious about the super jump. Is there a downside to performing this move?

I appreciate the help. I'm just a rookie but soon enough, I'll be taking you all down! Ha ha.

Only kidding. If you see a Kristina out there- super jumping everywhere, you know that's me.

The other team can see where you land (unless you have the ability that makes it so that they don't), so you can be jumping right into your death and can't do anything about it.

Basically, don't jump into places where your team is getting destroyed.

Started using the Aerospray, not because I particularly like it, but because my score count absolutely rockets when covering ground compared to other weapons. It's the only really overpowered weapon in the game, I think, not so much when it comes to combat, but just in terms of how little ink it uses and how weirdly fast it racks up scores. As the fastest firing weapon in the game, the most sensible nerf would be to make it go through ink at the fastest rate as well. There's no reason why the Splattershot Pro, for instance, should drain so quickly when firing relatively slowly. If the Aero is to be so efficient, it should be draining its ink tank in a couple of seconds on full auto fire.

Also, despite the complaints, I really like the Callie and Marie updates. They're only about 20 seconds long and are a nice introduction back into the world of Splatoon.

I think it's tied to the damage it deals. if you were in a conflict with a splattershot pro and it could fire as much as an aerospray could then you'd likely be splat'd.

and I also love Callie and Marie. it's a nice way to start off every Splatoon session. but I'm fresh as fuck so who knows ;p

In addition to the above, the game has that difficult-to-define fun factor. I don't know where time goes when you're playing. This is a dangerous game to play a few hours before any appointment. Some people hate Callie and Marie's interruptions but I have to thank them for telling me when 4 hours have passed!

I don't think it's that difficult to define. The game simply plays extremely well. The mechanics are so sharp and the maps are very well designed. The fact that matches last 3 minutes makes the game like eating a bag of Doritos.

I am a huge fan of online shooters and Splatoon is one of the best I've ever played. It's incredibly good. It would not surprise me to see other games rip off these mechanics.

No problem. The super jump is a little tricky to figure out the exact times you should use it, even though I'm almost level 20 I still screw it up a lot, haha. I guess it just comes down to experience with the game, as with most things.

There are times when you should keep launching to your teammates in a critical hold point to help make sure that your team keeps that spot (and to give your possibly dead teammates a spot to super jump to themselves). However, if a teammate is surrounding by the enemy ink and looks like they're going die it is probably wiser to not jump to them because you'll probably get super jump camped and killed instantly by the opponent because it shows an indicator to the other teams players that are near to your landing spot.

Additionally, don't be afraid to use it to super jump away from trouble (i.e. to a teammate near to the base or in a safe area). I don't see a lot of people using it in this way, but I definitely think it's important to remember that if you are getting surrounded yet still have time to jump (remember it takes a little time to initiate) you can pull back to another area quickly with the super jump.

Although sometimes you can hit superjump and then notice all your teammates getting splatted when you are in the air, if this happens I quickly tap ZL, cross my fingers and hope I can swim round the back of the other team to destroy them. 4 times out of 5 I get destroyed though.

Yep this is a good point. If you feel there is trouble at your landing spot, but there is still of your teams ink there it is a good idea to turn into a squid and swim around. You can make a pretty quick and surprisingly safe escape by turning into a squid, swimming a bit, jumping out and shooting a burst of ink then turning into a squid and repeating that as you flee or get to a safer position.

So can someone explain to me on the gear shops, do you get one new piece a day? Or does it give you new items depending on how many open slots you have available?

Man oh man using an Inkstrike right when the timer counts down is easily the best schadenfreude I've gotten.
It's cheap as fuck... but I do it all the time. Inkstrike is easily the best special if you resist the urge to use it for kills and instead use it to paint deep in the enemy's territory.

It's part of the reason that the golden aerospray is so spectacular for turf war, in my opinion. You can cover a ton of space with the main gun and build up a special quickly then unleash that deep in the enemies base or at a strategic point controlled by the enemy (like the tower in the skatepark stage).

My point wasn't that the Splattershot Pro should be made to fire faster, but that the Aerospray should receive a nerf to use up a hell of a lot more ink than it currently does considering its insane firing rate. My comparison was to the Pro because it makes no sense to me that, regardless of the power of each shot, the Pro is a slow-ish firing weapon which drains ink quickly, whereas the Aero is the fastest weapon in the game, leading to inflated ground coverage scores, yet its ink consumption is also arguably one of, if not the lowest per shot in the game. Making the Aero significantly less ink-efficient is therefore, to me, the most sensible way of nerfing it without making useless a weapon that already has discernable weakness in range and damage, even if its strengths far outweigh them right now.

And I'm fully ranked (until they raise the cap, hopefully soon) and still pleased to see Callie and Marie, so there's that...

So I’ve been playing around with Equipment abilities…

I’m learning that they do stack, but think about what you’re using and if it’s making a difference.

Take the Attack Up ability. I did some tests using vanilla, one ability and then two abilities. I don’t have enough gear to test stacking more than two of anything right now. Using the standard Splattershot, Attack Up seems to increase the damage by one point. Two of them increased it by two. But you have to consider what kind of difference this is going to make. At 100 heath a player, it will take three hits of 36 from a splattershot to kill. Throwing even 9 attack abilities on is still going to require three shots to add up over 100. So unless attack up is going to push your weapon past 50, I’d say don’t bother.

However with that said, if another player packs several defense up abilities then it changes things. If a player can reduce the def they take to 33 or below, it will now take 4 hits to take them out. You could counteract this with those attack up abilities.

Ink Saver didn’t seem to do much for me. It took a full 11 seconds to empty the Splattershot tank without it, the ability bumped it up to about 12 seconds. Considering I'm in and out of the ink constantly, it makes little effect on my play style.

Both Movement up skills make a noticeable difference to me. I want to test the Inkling movement up while shooting to see if it makes a difference, as the more I think about it I never walk around in Inking form without spraying.

I’m trying to decide what my dream skill layout will be.

that was my point though, the reason it can fire so much without using that much ink is because it deals less damage

Why do people Inkstrike the enemy base? Its like... the biggest waste of a special (unless the timer is at 2). Those who respawn are just going to paint it over in a few seconds. Better to use it to gain ground that you can actually hold instead of a tiny inconvenience for the opponent.

Also... lets hurry up and max out this thread so we can get a new OT. I'm still in shock that Squids Next Door or Hard in the Paint were not chosen :(

How do you think this game will be for new players in a couple months? Is there any info if new players will be grouped against other new players or will they play against seasoned players that played from launch? Trying to determine if I should really start playing now so I'm not behind too much or wait until more of the game is available.

Basically, are groups set based on level or is it all random? Not referring to ranked here, just normal matches.

Looks like mostly random, or the grouping is very wide

Even the normal matches have at least some level of matchmaking it seems like. In a couple of months you should still be matched up with similar levels to you, which means you'll play against people just starting out too, theoretically. Although it does get messed up when people have friends joining that are dramatically higher level, which throws off the balance of levels in the whole group.

In my opinion, the game is so addicting/great already that I'd recommend playing it now, but it is up to you.

This games much more new player friendly than any other shooter, purely because you get points for ground coverage and not kills, you can be a newbie with a load of lvl 20's and still be effective and have a blast.

It's still pretty early to talk OT2 atm but some subtitles suggested that I really like -
Welcome to Dye
Ink It Ink This Ink That
Release the Kraken
Squids Next Door
Walls Don't Count

Will probably bring the conversation back up again when we get there and when some more inevitably fun puns happen.

I replayed some stages once and I got to two lvl3 and one lvl2 upgrade at most.

You definitely won't be able to upgrade everything from one playthrough.

I do hope there will be DLC packs for the single player. What was there is really good, but it clearly has much more potential.

Thanks. I can prefer it this way. For people who are having trouble they can replay and upgrade while the stages are designed not for a fully upgraded player.

If you have the Amiibo's you can get all the upgrades. I did a hub area, then did the Amiibo challenges, did a hub area, did challenges.

This is what I was hoping for. Got a three pack on launch day but I'm waiting for my original Walmart order Wednesday to compare. The worse one gets returned.

Hey everybody...
Is there fun to be had for two players in Splatoon. I need a new game to play with my girlfriend. We usually play fighting games but if this has good co-op or online splitscreen i would get it.

Had a match earlier today on the mall where my team just did nothing. We covered like 6 percent of the map and the enemy team guarded every choke point out :/

Other than watching your SO, no. The 1 on 1 multiplayer is ass.
