Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

I still think Release the Kraken! or Squids Next Door were the better options.

It's going to rot away at my soul every time I click on this thread.

Hmm.

Whoa, for real? Man, while I'm sure it will, I hope it doesn't affect in-store pre-orders as well. :S

For whatever it's worth, I suspect the reason you can't quit out of the matchmaking screen is a strategic move on Nintendo's part to make the matchmaking system faster/better overall. It's probably easier to create parties when the server knows that (almost) no one is going to leave.

Lol wow they hijacked a truck for dem Amiibo!!
It probably wasn't specifically for the Amiibo, that would be too extreme..... Right? Sucks for the pre-orders. ):

I'd want a squid one just because it unlocks the rhythm game. Plz let us unlock the minigames ingame. ;~;

I wouldn't see any other motivation behind stealing a truck lol. There's really nothing else of collectible value in those boxes. GAME must have seriously pissed some scalpers off with the 1-per-customer rule. I hope they catch these bastards.

I have no idea what "Squidstyler" is even referencing. Is it a joke, a play on words, a kid, or a squid?

It's a reference to Bomfunk MC's 90's hit Freestyler. The OT itself references several songs, the most obvious probably being Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out For A Hero". After all, Inklings are all about style and they really love music.

Not really interested in this game and not digging the style...but I do hope it's successful for Nintendo.

Any idea how popular it will be?

Does this game support two players on one console going online together? I couldn't see anything about this when glancing through the original post.

Game is bound to debut at around 150k sold copies in Japan's first week and depending on how the aggressive marketing worked out in the western side of things, 500k doesn't sound too unreasonable worldwide for it's second week or so. I imagine it'll be pretty popular when all is said and done, especially with the continued support.

This isn't available unfortunately. It probably has to do either with the performance hit the game takes when playing local, or with the Gamepad being relatively integral.

Just got the game. Amiibo squid version. The website even sent one of those fabric frisbes with the games logo and a little bag to put it in.
Really cool store!

Going to try some splatoon right now.

And yeah, the thread title is a little... meh, to say the least. But the world is not gonna end for that.

Ah, thanks. That's okay. I will most likely buy it Friday anyhow due to this being one of the reasons I picked up my Wii U in the first place. I need to get skilled before the big updates hit.

Played for 3 hours, got to rank 6 and won 5 matches in a row with more than 1000 points, yay.

Also played 7 local matches with my gf, but it was way less fun the team multiplayer. I don't think I'll be touching that mode again.

I'm having fun with the game, but map repeats and weird grouping with friends are a bit off putting.

Either way its super dissapointing. Id rather have no gamepad integration than no split screen online. Thats half the fun for me. I cant play with friends online now because no one I know uses a Wii U. Gamepad integration is just getting in the way imo if thats the case.

Preloaded the game weeks ago, avoided the "tests". Can't wait!

EDIT:
And related to the title, yeah..just leave the one it has. Reminds me of the Mortal Kombat OT I made, and posts at first were about the title chosen. Was 'Going back in time', which not only was suggested, but also related to the game and the whe premise of the thread too (a summary if everything MK related).

Left it like that. Some were pissed off because OTs are supposed to be made for the users, so the users should like the title...or whatever. :p

So...yeah...SPLATOON!

Is there stat tracking?

Style is definitely their most distinctive feature, no? Music though... I dunno about that.

I dunno. I think the part about them being squid kids is pretty distinctive.

Anyway. Game is fun. Roller seems too stronk, I love it. I haaaaaaaaaaaate this stupid 2 maps at a time bullshit seeing as I've played on that Pier one a billion times and the Skate park three times.

90% of the players so far have been JP but connections have been great. I miss the time lapse of the paint that was shown in the first trailer (at least I think it was there) at the end of the round rather than showing the final standing. I'd like to watch the match unfold at the end of the round.

Out of interest: I see mention that you can't buy stuff in shops until you're Level 4. In which case, what does unlock for progressing through the first few levels?

Level 2 you can buy some weapons and then level 4 for clothing. You need to play the levels in the single player to play the Amiibo Challenge version. It takes a few matches to get to level 4, not a big deal. New weapons unlock in the store as you level. I dunno about clothing, seems to just be the stock. I think it refreshes daily or something?

A review mentioned that the clothing shops change stock every day, but you can order other clothes by examining the clothes of other inklings in the main hub

Still waiting for my copy.... Guess I'll have to wait one or two more days.
Trying to avoid spoilers and stuff

As for the title. Just leave it. It's just a thread title anyway.

I've been watching my 5 year old do the introduction part of the game on her profile. I am blown away how easily she is finding the gyro controls and left stick to aim. She completed the tutorial quicker than my first time with barely any of my input. Children these days terrify me!

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I just want to know if Local MP is an option, or is it just for online MP?

OT is up already? People already have their copies? They are already playing? SO JELLY!!

Amazing OT ! But dissapointed on that title hah. But that doesn't matter cuz OT is top notch quality stuff.

So how are people reacting to the 4 hour map rotation setup. Had a blast playing the two maps in the test fire but I'm not sure if it's really the best way to go around it in the final product. Especially it being 4 freaking hours instead of a more understandable 2 hours.

Here you can play 1 hour session, take a break for 2 hours and still come back for 1 more hour of the same maps again.
