Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

Who said you had to have it? Optional. It works in Mario kart, would be the same in this
The map in Splatoon is much more complicated and hard to read, though, with colour information, too. Also, how would you click on your teammates on the TV screen? It's a crucial part of gameplay.

Anyone know how available the amiibos are at stores? About to leave the office and pick up my copy, but curious about the amiibos. Hoping I can grab at least one at the store when I go.

After a long odyssey where I went to some wrong destinations (completely separate from my gaming purchases) I return home with my bounty. I consider it karmic payment for the good stuff I got.

Splatoon gun, $5 at Target (listed for $13 online but unavailable) before I left home I looked up availability for it and all the stores in CT except my local one didn't have it. Lucky.

Splatoon game, $33 after $12 GCU discount and $15 worth of reward codes, $5 of which was to expire Sunday.

Splatoon Amiibo pack, $28 after GCU. They still had 5 left at Best Buy when I came. The first one I got had both the Squid and Boy look great but the girl looked strangely worse than them. Yeah there was some slight paint imperfections but more than that she just looked like she was missing the sheen of the other two.

So I stood up to the shame and went back an hour later and had to explain that I wanted to exchange it because of the imperfections. They only had one left but very lucky for me this one had all three looking great!

I have a preorder from Walmart due for delivery Wednesday. I was planning b to wait to open my Amiibo until it came and picked the better Amiibo quality between the two and return the lesser one. With how good the quality of the one I got though I may just open the one I got.

There's always options. Off the top of my head, either use the d-pad or hold a face button down, a mini menu pops up and you select a point.
And you'd be able to tell your mate locations on the map on the TV where all the coloured action goes, and hit the corresponding D-pad direction in the heat of action?

Clunkyville.

Break it down, make it simple and nintendo-fied. It's all in pixels, OK it may not be precise but it's more than beneficial to see what area is needing attention.

You're entirely misunderstanding what I'm talking about going by what you're saying there. I'm not talking about anything related to commands at all. Are you aware what tapping your teammates on that map does? That there is a button that says "spawn point" and that you can tap that as well? Doing so makes you jump to that location immediately. That is what I'm talking about.

Yes, I don't think you're getting what I'm saying. It could easily be done with dpad controls. Everyone has a <,^,> (down) above their heads. Choose which one you want to spawn too.

All these things are bad fixes. You're trying to force substandard alternatives onto something when they found a method that works perfectly.

The only viable alternative is keeping the touch screen as is and letting you use another controller at the same time.

Ok, I am almost level six and I just remembered there are special attacks with the right stick. I couldn't figure out how everyone else was doing this fancy stuff. Then I read the turf war info screen.

I kind of wish that you could customize sub weapons and specials, but then I think about how scary a roller with Bubbler would be

But the problem is that this solution that works perfectly makes local multiplayer impossible. Which is a huge cost. Allowing multiple, substandard options, wouldn't have that disadvantage.

My Splatoon copy came in the mail via Amazon~! As well as a wired internet adapter for my Wii U, so I can get some prime connections!

I'm halfway tempted to not play right now, because I need to keep me eyes on the clock for later on today. I've got some Splatoon amiibos to hunt.

Again, I don't think the gamepad is the main reason why we don't have local multiplayer. It wouldn't surprise me if they used the gamepad precisely because they knew they couldn't do that mode

I think people just need to accept that this game was designed around the gamepad. it's a fundamental part of everything including the multiplayer balancing

Whatever I say you're going to say sub standard. You're making out it wouldn't work at all or some how break the game. It wouldn't.

I guess that could work for the squid jumping technically. Still then you'd lose the presence of the map itself unless you pop it up manually and you still need some other way to do the ink strike.

Yeah, I definitely don't think the gamepad is really the reason there's no local mp. But I think it contributes. Which is too bad, because local mp would make this a perfect game.

Agreed.

I don't see how this is anything less than an extreme exaggeration. Especially the bolded.

Also how could you use the item allowing you to jump to it if all was mapped to d-pad buttons?
You get maybe one, but if more poeple use it that doesn't work

This game is amazing, it's hard to stop playing! So far, it's been mostly smooth sailing, with only 2 disconnects. But never waiting to find a game, lag free connection. I'm really enjoying the freshness of the game. On a side note, I managed to get the only amiibo boy and girl my local EB Games had because No triple packs were there. Then my girlfriend texts me from out of town, and the Toys R Us there had a wall full of new amiibo. So she's getting me the triple pack and I'll have it Monday. Then, not 5 minutes later, I got a Twitter message from Nintendo saying I won a prize, which is likely Splatoon Amiibo. Gonna end up having to give some away....

There are other factors that make local multiplayer impossible. Performance being one of them. Plus just imaging 4 player splitscreen. You wouldn't see anything. You need to be aware of your environment in this game. Not just to be able to see your opponent but to do platforming and see where you need to spread ink. This isn't an FPS where all you need to worry about is what runs through your crosshair in the center. Even two player splitscreen would be super tough in that regard. I wish I had video editing skills so I could mock up how bad it would be.

Any form of splitscreen just doesn't work except for the two-screen variant using the GamePad.

The touch/map isn't what's preventing local splitscreen.

I'll end up playing again in about 4 hours. I really need a break, especially since I'm ranting at how a Japanese Aerospray user kept dominating me for a while. I can't fault him, especially since he was playing very smart. Still, it can get frustrating when your charge shots end up missing by a hai-- er tentacle. The matches ended up getting a lot better later, so that was great.

Are any Charger users going to be on in about 4 hours? I'd like to play with some of you.

God, think outside the box even just a tad! 4 player split screen, a small map would be in the middle of the screen. It doesn't have to be exact to know where an area is being covered. Its two basic colours.

All I'm reading is excuses.

I was able to get C418 pretty good with a timed splat bomb. We were both running around a pillar trying to take each other down and then I just decided to throw it against the side of the pillar and right when he passed by...boom.

Having too much fun with this game. I've played it all day and I'm still not tired of it.

The game is pretty rad but I've been having weird connection issues pop up, which is strange because I had zero during the test fire. Either way, its super fun. Glad I picked it up, I even snagged a Squid Girl amiibo, first one I've bought. I figured I'd count it towards supporting a new IP.

Very. Hate how they have a thing every time you start the game.

At least make them skippable. >_>

On the bright side you can kind of just skip the dialogue quickly and get to the stage info.

I imagine they wanted to do an Animal Crossing take on the whole thing but ended up with some mixed results.

I think people should be able to complain about whatever they want about the game, considering they spent money on it. Just because the developers made a design decision doesn't mean every single person playing it has to like those decisions.

Alright that was fun. Level 10 is a good end of the first day.
Just waiting a few minutes until midnight here to check if there's some fresh gear.

Played with you for a while, Joe. :D

for sure, but spillt milk and all that jazz

I can't use the fast Charger (2nd charger) because of the limited offensive options. I love my Bomb pressure. =/

Regarding taking two people online with 1 console, it would be cool if they did it like the Battle Dojo, but have the Gamepad user control both players' Super Jump. Imagine the trolling. Lol
