What about things like "The Ten Best Top-Ten Lists"?Jexhius said:I find it very difficult, let's call it impossible, to directly order a top ten of anything, anime films included.
Anime is probably the easiest thing to directly order a set of works, in my opinion. On the other hand i find it literally impossible to do it with music, books, and films.Jexhius said:I find it very difficult, let's call it impossible, to directly order a top ten of anything, anime films included.

And this is why they're not making FMP season 3.

More on topic, had a chance to catch up Tiger and Bunny 2-3. Enjoying the show a lot. Nothing goes right for Kotetsu, does it?

I find it literally impossible in anything, unless I've only seen like 10 films or something!Lafiel said:Anime is probably the easiest thing to directly order a set of works, in my opinion. On the other hand i find it literally impossible to do it with music, books, and films.
Nobody wins here.zeroshiki said:That sound you hear is macodin celebrating Tessa's demise. I'm torn though. Naru is a bad character from a lame show.

Anyway, just so we get some productive discussion out of this, and since the last anime movie thread died in January (best as I can tell), what's your favorite feature-length anime film?
I'll admit there's a lot of good films I haven't seen, but from the meager amount I have, I liked Princess Mononoke the most.

Hatin' on Akira? When will your reign of madness end?firehawk12 said:Akira:
I'm not going to go at length, because really there's nothing left to be said about this movie that hasn't already been said. It was interesting to revisit this movie after maybe 15 years though. I remembered bits and pieces of it, but clearly to my teenaged brain, the Neo Tokyo parts stuck with me much greater than the second half of the film.
But anyway, on the production side the film still looks marvellous. Sakuga porn and all that, with tremendous detail and a subdued but still distinctive soundtrack. I wasn't sure if it would hold up for me but, here's proof that high production values can make an animated film stand the test of time.
The film itself though... it feels very disjointed and I can understand why I remember the first half of the film so well while the second half of the film disappeared from my mind. What seems to be a simple penis envy tale suddenly balloons into a government conspiracy and a story about human evolution, where Tetsuo's motivations and character development doesn't seem all that consistent. The way the film resolves the main thread between Tetsuo and Kaneda is both very poignant (Please help me!) and very obtuse, leading to a conclusion that is ultimately anti-climatic.
Wikipedia says the film loses much of the manga and it certainly feels that way. I'm not sure if I'll ever read the book, but I have to imagine it's a more of a complete experience with a natural progression of the characters (and presumably, the mythology).
I dunno, the funny thing is, this film makes me want to watch Blade Runner again more than anything else... which probably goes to show the impact it has on me now. Maybe having it "rebooted" in a live action film isn't such a bad thing?

Why the fuck would they do that? That was the biggest cocktease ever. Ugh. And I thought the episode was going ok too.
cosmicblizzard said:I know, right. They probably ran out of money. Nakamura needs to stop losing Deals. The lack of a fight was the consequence this time, but who knows what will happen if he loses again.

Don't worry, it does a pretty good job of guiding you through the story so you never feel lost for what's going on. Plus the opening (which I love) is a good reminder for who everyone is and what groups they fall into.Unknown Soldier said:Baccano! 1:
Oh, hooray. That didn't make even a tiny bit of goddamn sense. So far I know there are 3 families, two of which are apparently mafia, the third of which are apparently immortals. They are at war with each other in an alternate 1930's Prohibition era. There's a train, the Flying Pussyfoot, which was carrying several important characters which was attacked by people apparently opposed to the immortal family. Also, there was a lot of blood. I'm glad they didn't pull any punches on the blood in this series. The whole thing is evidently narrated by the leader of a publisher of major newspapers and his young niece who is helping him reconstruct the events surrounding this mafia war. I guess it's kind of like Al Capone and the Untouchables combined with some weird occult shit and immortality. The sheer size of the ensemble cast will probably be a fucking pain in the ass to keep straight initially. Reminds me of Simoun, actually, in that regard, since we're talking about Izayoi's list.

Out of curiosity, are you watching dub or sub? When I watched it I went with the English voice cast and the accents really made the whole setting click for me, quite enjoyable.
