Here are a few of my all-around favorite comedies in preferential order:

Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu (very well-executed slapstick romantic comedy)
Lovely Complex (romantic comedy, central duo has both comedic and romantic chemistry, has a fair amount of serious drama too)
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (wacky black comedy, biting satire)
My Bride is a Mermaid (wacky harem comedy, never takes itself seriously)

From the current season, Sket Dance and Nichijou are your best bets.

Cromartie High School. Hilarious. Also, if you like bad 90s action movies, Hidan no Aria is delivering in spades this season.
I love batshit insane comedys, but CHS strangely doesn't do anything to me. Watched ep 1 so far.
Perhaps I should try Hidan no Aria.

From the stuff I've seen:

Azumanga Daioh - cute situational comedy, set the standard for 4koma adaptations
Urusei Yatsura - 80's Romcom slapstick
Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu - Awesome adaptation of the more comedic FMP stories. Looks better when contrasted with the rather dull dramatic adaptations.
Jungle Wa Itsumo Hare Nochi Guu - Lovecraftian loli, manic-depressive shota, and their wild and crazy adventures in a "modern" jungle village. Hugely underrated everywhere I go
Excel Saga - Instantly made all other LOLRANDOM shows obsolete. For reference, the OP is downright subtle and muted compared to the show proper.
Ranma 1/2 - Same writer as UY, not nearly as good, but still worth checking out.
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei - Kinda like a cross between a harem series and a Monty Python skit.
Keroro Gunsou/Sgt. Frog - The anime is good, but personally I think you'd be better off just reading the manga.
K-On - Hahahahahahahahahahahaha no, this is more like the antithesis of a comedy

EDIT - Shit, somehow forgot Fumoffu. I apologize

Oh yes, I also forgot about Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei. Another great show where you have kind of leave your sense of sense at the door. Same with Aria. Actually, when you watch Aria, just up and turn your brain off, like you do for most 90s action movies.

I've already seen the bold ones, I think I should try Working or Hidan no Aria.

Looks like I'll be checking out 10 shows next season, but I only expect to stick with 2 or 3. Nothing jumps out at me as anything more than a time waster. Definitely a massive drop after sticking with 15 shows in one season.

Never seen that, so I couldn't tell you.

Mitsudumoe is basically what would happen if you replace the main characters from Hanamaru Kindergarten with 3 pervets with certain fetishes (sadist, loves boobies, always reads porn book), and runs away with it.

Season 2 is infinitely better paced than season 1.

Thanks AnimeGAF, I decided to watch My Bride is a Mermaid, even though I originally haven't wanted to watch a harem-comedy again.

I doubt it was intended to be such.

I assume the source material was meant to be taken at face value, but with the way JC Staff is mailing this adaptation in they are taking this about as seriously as we all are.

Depends what you mean by harem comedy, "the couple" is a lock throughout the whole series from episode 1, and the other "haremites" don't really try anything.

There's also School Rumble and Minami-ke. Both might be up your alley.

Oh! Edo Rocket also has comedic elements on top of being just plain awesome. Just sayin'.

Good choice. I thought it was going to be a stupid show when I randomly decided to watch it - and it was, but good stupid, not dull stupid like Shuffle. The animators and VAs were clearly having a lot of fun.

Mononoke 3

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Not taking any more monocle show recommendations.

Why on earth would you, of all people, watch Mononoke? You should have gone for a monocle-GAF action show at least like Kemonozume or Birdy Decode, something with interesting animation but still some fight sequences.

I don't like Mononoke or Bakemono either. Beautiful but so dull.

The show has (background) art! Good background art! Also sewing!

The Mawaru Penguin makes it look like a period piece, apart from that pirate teddy bear. Or someone like collecting old stuff. But who knows really, teaser material and all that.

There's always a chance for redemption.

Only 4 or 5 really stand out to me, but I guess I'll just play it by ear again.

Wait, just so I'm clear on this, the reason people are hyped for this Penguindrum show is because... *google search* the director is the same guy who did Utena? Is that right?
What sorts of sources do you follow to keep up with all the staff and director information for new series?

>calling Birdy Decode a monocle show
>comparing Mononoke to Bakemono
>implying that Bakemono is beautiful

Are you deliberately trolling me?

Yeah, I'm gonna go back to Kemonozume. I actually really like the content, but the art style is a pain to follow sometimes. Left off at episode 3.

Did you ever want to visit the Super Peace Busters base from AnoHana? Well, if you visit the Noitamina store in Shinjuku anytime over the next month, you could get your chance:

AnoHana's Chō Heiwa Busters Secret Base Recreated

Looks like their Twitter is also posting updates on the project, if you can read it.
Are you telling me I could be chilling in Poppo's manjuice filled castle right now?

I need the plane taking off image, stat.

First look at Penguin Drum's main characters.

Are they both girls? Yuri confirmed!

The real question here involves cars and transformation.

This is like all those questions people had about [C] when people were getting hyped based off the director.

Except this time it really will be awesome. Confirmed.

It's Brains Base, so we can know for sure that isn't going to be super ugly like [C]. That's about all we can say for now!

I'm also assuming Ikuhara isn't returning from the depths to produce some half-assed show.

The best part about hyping a show is the chance it could be terrible.
