How could you not touch this when walking past it.

Because getting arrested is kind of a downer?

Unless you mean the disc case. I would touch that.
YeS I would.

I wouldn't have a problem with that, but apparently the One Piece public is also older.

I don't know what kids care about these days.
Well, that's too be expected since OP is what? 10 years old now?
With the churn, male kids are either watching Pokemon, since it keeps rebooting, or maybe one of those new shounen like... Fairy Tail or something.

The fabulous ones are watching Precure!

The One Piece TV viewership skews a lot younger than the manga. Whether that's because adults don't watch cartoons*, or because there's a big group of kids who watch free TV but don't want to spend their allowance on Jump, I dunno. Probably both.

(*There's actually a decent number of adults watching One Piece, according to those TV ratings; just not to the degree it is with the manga.)

Does Japan do something similar to the Nielsen box with specific demos as well as general ratings?

Yeah. I don't know much about how it works though. (I seem to remember there being some problem with DVRed shows not getting counted, making late-night numbers off. But maybe they've fixed that by now.)

Well, here it's not just ratings, but also the age of the viewers that matter. I presume that they must be able to group viewers by age and gender (and probably other factors) there too?

goddamn gender roles. always keeping the precure's down! :(
Give me a Brocure brofist!

I imagine it's like America. Boys aren't allowed to wear pink or watch shows meant for girls.

You said this and reminded me of how my father would get mad at me when I was younger for watching Sailor Moon or Tenchi during Toonami. :lol

The way I saw it, shit was fun and the good stuff for younger me was always right after, so why not watch the whole block? Of course, my father sees me watching those shows with my siblings (predominately female) and questions the sexuality of an 11 year old.

To think I wonder how I turned out the way I did sometimes... :lol

Sailor Moon is probably the big one that a lot of boys here got grief for. lol

And I say that as someone who grew up on Jem. :p

Excluding Sazae-san type shows the most popular shows from a couple of weeks ago (in order) were Conan, One Piece, Toriko, Precure, Curious George (in Japanese), Inazuma Eleven and Pokemon Best Wish. While that doesn't take demographic breakdowns into affect, even though the majority of One Piece watchers may be older that doesn't mean that it's not the most popular show among kids.

Also worth noting is that the most popular film that aired on TV a couple of weeks ago was a Conan film, with a Crayon Shin-chan film two places behind it.

This skill is only a requirement because the DS has a resistive screen.
On a capacitive touchscreen like most mobile phones have, you can use your lips directly.

The Conan film is more a function of the timeslot. Its the Friday Roadshow timeslot. They show like super big stuff like Harry Potter and Ghibli on it.

I always got shit for watching Tenchi Muyo. Oddly enough my mother was the one who was okay with it; my old man on the other hand was convinced that stuff like Tenchi and Ranma 1/2 were porn.

Teens stop watching cartoons, it seems. That kid demo is still strong!

Man, a lot of classics then.

You should have been playing outside rather than watching anime.

Builds character!

I am actually 100% certain about the ugly designs and I can infer on the animation quality just by looking at the studio.
I'll reiterate once more that, in my opinion, saying that is a disservice to the people behind that show. A studio is not a monolithic entity. Some could have their opportunity to demonstrate what they can do on every place they work in.

What is the term when animators can't keep consistent faces (aka much derp faces)? Or is there one?
QUALITY, as in "QUALITY" but not "quality".

Yikes. I wonder what went wrong. Was there a substantial amount of advertising for it?
It even participates on important product advertisement:

グリコ乳業 カフェオーレ × ももへの手紙 割引券付きキャンペーン

カフェオーレ「ももへの手紙」篇|CMシアター|グリコ乳業株式会社

It's a bomba week!
Everyone is waiting for Nisemonogatari's first volume (to be available just in a few hours), judging by the pre-orders...

Hey Hino-san, karma's a bitch eh? :)
As long as he learns from the errors I'm O.K., I find sad seeing someone fail like that.

That's pretty cool. My mum and dad are pretty cool with me watching anime since they used to watch things like Doraemon and Totoro when they were kids as well. Although there's an unspoken rule that I don't watch anything disturbing or questionable on the TV though. They're also cool with me buying anime since I buy it with my own savings anyway.

at the behest of dynasty, I finally finished guilty crown. Man dy, you were right. Great series, so much action, coherent story, and beautiful ending.

AO so far has been moving a pretty nice clip, like the second half of eureka. Its almost too good in terms of pace, there has to be a drop somewhere.

Im too afraid to start Kids on the Slope, I want to wait til I can watch with the gf since I want her to enjoy it as much as I did his other works (she wasn't a huge fan of Champloo, thought it meandered too much).

smh.

i'm really tired so I don't feel like giving a discourse about how Guilty Crown is a failure. I'll just say everything in the show is rather derivative, disappointing and nonsensical in general.

Watch Kids on the Slope asap, it's amazing.

DY, you're an evil man.

agreed.

btw, guys when is the show of the season, AKB0048, going to air?

This news pleases me. <3. Detective Conan!

And the full weekly sales for April 16-22:

Blu-ray
*1, 15,988 15,988 Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon vol.5 Limited Edition
*5, *2,024 *2,024 UN-GO episode:0 Inga-ron
*7, *1,632 *1,632 Ben-To vol.5
*8, *1,380 *1,380 Mobile Suit Gundam AGE vol.3 Deluxe Edition
*9, *1,324 *1,324 UN-GO vol.4

DVD
*1, *4,770 *,**4,770 New Prince of Tennis vol.1

Well I hope that justifies making even a third season of Horizon. I would love for the whole thing to be adapted into anime, since I doubt no company will translate the books in their entirety. Though if Sentai would truly commit to season 2 and beyond? Ungo is still release dateless here? I saw random clips of ep 1 it looked compelling a shame I missed it during when it aired.

at the behest of dynasty, I finally finished guilty crown. Man dy, you were right. Great series, so much action, coherent story, and beautiful ending.

Ending was unforgettable, definitely not how I expected it, then again I was probably the only one under the belief that it could get a second season.

Average sales per volume for Gundam series since 2000:
68,735 - Kidou Senshi Gundam SEED Destiny
58,589 - Kidou Senshi Gundam SEED
39,353 - Kidou Senshi Gundam 00
34,601 - Kidou Senshi Gundam 00 S2
*1,999 - Kidou Senshi Gundam AGE (Vols. 1-2) (this third volume sold even less lol)

AGE is really the definition of bomb lol.

So awkward seeing this and then thinking, does this mean I like bombs? I guess Im one of the few that find the charm in AGE. Some mobile suit designs are lacking but its a fun story with nice characters and such (Asemu). I wonder if this means it will be cheaper for some company to license and bring over. Id like to own more than just 00 and 00 S2 (Seed HD I would like as well, and whatever Destiny entails? More Athrun/Kira?)

Pretty...

I liked it. Other shows this year have had stronger first episodes, but I liked the laid-back pacing, the small mysteries, and the eye candy. Satoshi talks so much he could practically be in Bakemonogatari, but I feel like enough happened here that it wasn't spinning its wheels.

I'll keep following it. It's the least I could do for KyoAni after getting to Nichijou late.

The boobs in anime are usually hilarious.
The occasionally get them right though. the bigger issue is hips.

Eh, it looks OK when you pull the plastic slipcover (which has the background/foreground/title artwork on it) off and just look at the illustration of Kimi.

It's good, but not worthy of the praise that some folks have been heaping onto it. It has issues, namely the first two episodes. It's also kinda ugly more often than it should be. That's it for now.

It's fun in the same way a [good] shounen is fun -- ie, cool fights & gotta see what happens next sort of stuff.

My translation of this:

I am currently enjoying Fate/Zero for what it is, but I feel that duckroll has rather over sold it.

Yeah. If nothing else it is PRETTY. The premise is kind of simple and silly so far. Hope it gets a bit deeper.

Nah. Fate Zero is worth its weight in gold.
