I wish I could describe the show to you, but I really can't. And I've seen all of it. It's just, hard to put into words.

So it's literally indescribable? That means that either you're a bad writer or I need to add Rin to my backlog as soon as possible.

I could try, but I don't think anything I write really does justice to the full scope of the OVA. It would be like trying to describe Tatami Galaxy in a general way, not particularly fair to the work. Of course I'm not saying the say is comparable to Tatami Galaxy in terms of quality, but I am just repeating Tatami Galaxy over and over to attempt to tempt you into consuming this unique brand of poison.

I'll give it a try:
lesbian futanari celestial gore and rape. and orgies.

See, the problem here is that you're describing some highlights in the show which created the notoriety the show has, but that doesn't really describe how seamlessly those elements (along with many others) are weaved into the essence of the story without feeling particularly unusual or out of place on their own. Instead the entire show feels like something written by someone who is a little insane (like say a Japanese Lovecraft) and also pretty perverted, and somehow it got produced and released as a commercial product attempting to make money from it.

All in all, it is a very strange product.

Luckily you don't have to try particularly hard. As you may have noticed I do enjoy subjecting myself to unique and terrible experiences every now and again.

Toriko - 50

Toriko's body was not ready, they fit in some guy love, and how the heck is Komatsu going to survive in the place unless he beefs up a fuckton.

Zetman - 01

Lots of graphic violence and by graphic I mean the white blur of censorship, no idea where they're going with this so I'll give it more eps.

Good.

Also so many nipples in the Queen's Blade Rebellion Blu-Ray (╯︵╰,)

The artwork makes Symphogear look quite interesting. might have to watch it.

Yes, just be sure to keep the filesize reasonable!

Inami is great, but she's no Yamada!

I need season 3!

Yamada is god-tier and the peasant class reside below. It's not a fair comparison.

So the next show Crunchyroll has picked up for simulcasting is Sengoku Collection.

http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-ne...dds-sengoku-collection-to-spring-anime-lineup

Its likely that I will watch this, although it isn't very high priority.

The decay of Sengoku-era characters -- a chart:

Sengoku Jidai

Sengoku Musou

Sengoku Basara

Sengoku Otome

Sengoku Collection

These are all Tokugawa Ieyasu.

Otome is best era. Hanazawa character suggests a challenger.

This might have been an 'edgy' thing to say at one point but after a decade of making (largely) irrelevant works it's hard to imagine that anyone even cares at this point about what they produce. Just look back on the decade 2000-2009 to see how many works they put out which people really care about:

2000: FLCL
2004: Diebuster
2007: Gurren Lagann

Not very inspiring, is it? I know that quality tops quantity, but that's a pretty poor showing by anyone's standards.

MY personal list would include Mahoromatic, Magical Shopping Arcade ABenobashi, and He Is My Master. Some of those were even co-produced by Shaft!

You know what the worst thing about buying Birdy the Decode is? The fact that Amazon keeps recommending that I purchase Strike Witches and Rin - Daughters of Mnemosyne. I'm offended by this.

You should see the stuff my Amazon list suggests. It would scare even the most intrepid anime explorer.

So it's literally indescribable? That means that either you're a bad writer or I need to add Rin to my backlog as soon as possible.

Rin is pretty awful. I only saw a few episodes on Netflix but is practically torture porn.

Why is everyone changing their avatars? :(

I decided to go with the meguka smirk for April's troll day, then I decided against back to my old avy because of the new season, so I'll change my avatar everyday till I can find something relevant to this season.

Sword of the Stranger Young Animator Training Project: Buta:

This was a fun "episode" and a great start to this year's project. I mean, it's cut from the same cloth as a lot of samurai texts, but just moefied/furryfied for a kid's audience. Not surprisingly, it looks gorgeous as well. Hopefully the next ones will be just as enjoyable to watch.

Also, it's Uchip approved:

I just watched my first Precure, Episode 9 of that new one.

All I could think of when I heard Yayoi talk was Squid Girl.

Those transformation scenes were fucking awful.

Why did you skip to episode 9? you should start at the beginning, and you should watch HeartCatch.

Dat CG -
yotsubaNO.jpg

Don't go painting me as a Miku hater.

Knight in the Area - 13

Why do they keep pushing Kakeru's Hnng heart nonesense, and why can't these people just call them striker, second striker, midfielder etc, I mean it bothered me a little that that they were labelled as such but I easily brushed it off, but then we have people called "Half-King"? Come the fuck on!

And... and was that... a more prevelant hint of Prince of Tennis shenanigans going on? Oh boy.

Nothing wrong with it. That's a nice catgirl right there.

I refuse to believe that shitty CG is actually Miku!

That Cg doesn't look much like Miku. This is Miku

Let's not confuse the two.

[Birdy the Decode S1 - Imagery from the Final Episode]

I have an unfortunate tendency when describing my experiences with a show to focus on the broad strokes: what I enjoyed overall, how various elements came together etc. but there's plenty of stuff on a granular level that might pass me by if I am not careful. Ironically enough, it was my rather lengthy diatribe on a certain recent show that reminded me how important the details are.

For example, this shot at the beginning of the episode caught my eye:

BirdyS1Finale1.png

Now, there's nothing particularly wrong with this image. It just strikes me as rather bland and unimpressive, it doesn't seem like it was created by anyone with any particular interest in space imagery. The way all the lines across the image line up with each other in a fairly rigid manner is boring because it fails to make use of the freedoms offered by drawing images in space - the fact that you can position your camera anywhere around an object and shoot it from exotic angles. It doesn't even use the star-field as a background.

This is, really, a complete aside. It's a very brief moment in the episode, but sometimes the artists behind a show will impress you by cramming these small moments with cool things. For example, in the very same episode, we get this:

BirdyS1Finale3.png

This is a containment device. It was never shown in the show before, and for all I know it won't ever be shown again. But for the handful of seconds it was on screen it managed to have a presence. It's sleek, black sides are reminiscent of the monolith in 2001 and it takes a very unusual shape - a pentagon that contracts to restrain whatever has been placed inside it. As it contracts, it shrinks into a smaller object, as you can see by the outline in the floor of the original device. It seems weird and futuristic and alien - the shape (pentagon) and ability (transformation) are not commonly associated with everyday objects.

What I'm saying is, it could just have been a steel box. Yet, instead, the creators went out of their way to make it unique and interesting, even if was only going to be on screen for a couple of seconds. I appreciate that level of craftsmanship in my work.

Speaking of Precure, I just watched the Suite movie and, wow, that was bad. I think Mephisto was pretty much the only entertaining thing about it.

Speaking of easily overlooked details...

[The Big O - Episode 1]

Now, I've watched this episode a number of times already but it wasn't until the Toonami re-run that I picked up on this particular detail that was staring me in the face all along -

BigOEpisode1dorway.png

This shot of Dorothy and Roger approaching the factory isn't simply an exercise in great composition, it's actually effective foreshadowing for both the true nature of 'Dorothy' and the final confrontation at the end of the episode. This huge doorway tells the audience that something on a mighty scale must have been constructed at this location and no exposition needs to be given.

Visual storytelling, who'd have guessed that such a thing would catch on?

Young Animators 2011- Buta

Damn that was pretty great. Actually I think that was better than any of the ones last year, which is pretty impressive. Straightforward samurai story with furries. Some god comedy mixed in there as well. Visually very pretty, and a good soundtrack to go with it. Looking forward to the rest of this years Young Animators stuff.

Hot

Also I noticed at the end there was a "to be continued". That would be the first time one of these projects has implied that there would be further episodes/installments correct?

The other show Crunchyroll is announcing today for simulcast is Shirokuma Café (Polar Bear's Café).

http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-new...g-anime-lineup

POLAR BEAR’S CAFÉ revolves around a Canadian white bear that quits his boring job and starts a cafeteria near a zoo. He loves telling tall tales and always brags about himself. According to him, he was picked up by a human couple who owns a diner while he was drifting around on an iceberg. Though he has lost all contact with his Canadian family, he has discovered a new home in serving the diners’ clientele, thanks to the kind couple. His café is an embodiment of his personality. The place is always packed with many regulars, animals and humans, who are drawn by his charismatic magnetism.
It's about a Canadian, so gotta watch it I suppose!
