Big things need big tracks and big doors is "quite a lot of work"?

While these are minor details in that initial scene, when you consider
what is being foreshadowed, the overall show, and the nature of paradigm city its a bit more interesting I think
.

Don't go painting me as a Miku hater.

Knight in the Area - 13

Why do they keep pushing Kakeru's Hnng heart nonesense, and why can't these people just call them striker, second striker, midfielder etc, I mean it bothered me a little that that they were labelled as such but I easily brushed it off, but then we have people called "Half-King"? Come the fuck on!

And... and was that... a more prevelant hint of Prince of Tennis shenanigans going on? Oh boy.

I await the episode when we dont have to hear the sound effect for the heart anymore. They should save it for when he actually does something that is winning level.

It's in the composition as well. Someone consciously made the choice to layer the visuals with these specific facts. It could have looked like any old warehosue space and we (the viewer) wouldn't have questioned it because we wouldn't know that something massive had been constructed there - which is why it's foreshadowing. Someone decided to design a realistic space that could potentially have been used to hold some object.

It's subtle, too, because of the striking composition in the shot itself. The huge doorway and long shadows of Roger and Dorothy are the real focus of the image, not the ancillary details which can easily pass you by the first time.

People don't like change. Within 5-10 years all anime will be dead.

You're talking to somebody who called Bebop ep1 bad!

They aren't?

Assuming you mean "sakuga" when you say "god tier stuff", that stuff is hand drawn. the gifs I had are too big to upload, maybe someone else can help me out here. Now, by hand drawn, I mean an animator sat down with his packet of ramen and painstakingly drew some keyframes that were then scanned and coloured digitally.

Speaking of subtle background stuff:

[Patlabor OVA 3]

This episode is essentially a homage to giant monsters, Godzilla and all that stuff. It's inherently silly but because this is Oshii you should always be paying attention. For example, the scientist's lab is quite interesting.

PatlaborOVA31.png

Fish imagery - this is classic Oshii. As is -

PatlaborOVA32.png

The giant fossil hanging on the wall. What's that over in the corner by the sofa?

PatlaborOVA33.png

That's right, it's an egg. Oh Oshii!

As a bonus, Oshii even threw in on of his trademark 'distorted character' shots where we view a character through some distortion, such as a fish-eye lens.

but the setting is still going to be the same place, it's just basic consistency to have it big.

Now this I agree with, but the reasons you cited at first (Big things are big!) weren't that great.

I didn't say that the direction or composition or animation of the first episode was bad. :(

If you could provide some examples in screenshots or mentions of specific scenes, that would help clarify what you mean!

Since otherwise I'll carry this to my grave, let me clarify this: I don't think Cowboy Bebop episode 1 is a bad episode as a self contained episode. I dislike it for reasons that don't have to do with it's goodness or badness. Furthermore, I don't claim that Cowboy bebop itself is a bad show, since I haven't watched past episode 1 and I don't make claims about stuff I haven't seen. :( Just because I dislike the first episode doesn't mean I don't recognize what it does well.

Oh that was the
one where they go inside the storybook right?
That was a neat episode.

I only ever watched that episode and the very first episode, but I'm told that it was the highlight of the series. I never really set aside to check out whether that claim was true or not.

I'm genuinely curious - you don't dislike Cowboy Bebop because of its quality? So what do you dislike it for?

There's a Flea Market right by my house.

I'm gonna see if I can find any old anime on VHS tomorrow or Saturday.

This is a noble endeavor. Which reminds me. I have never been in a flea market. Many pawn shops though.

given my love for americana and antiques, you would think I would have visited several in my lifetime.

You can rectify your mistakes by watching more Bebop, y'know. :s

It's not impossible, I've done it before. Went to a flea market last year where someone had a ton of old 90s OVAs that were former rentals for $2 each. Bought Casshan: Robot Hunter. Regretted not getting the rest, some might have been rare.

So, is there any particular reason for there never having been a Vocaloid anime yet? Is this a good thing considering how BRS turned out?

Envelope waited for the angry mob to burn crops and throw a couple pitchforks before clarifying their position!

just according to keikaku~

The 80's sci fi aesthetic didn't really appeal to me, and as an introduction to the series, I felt it was lacking.

hmmm... I was thinking of those CGish scenes you see in KyoAni stuff where the hair are flowing...

hmm... those dream sequences in clannad?

hmmm...

Kyoani has great character animators, i don't know whether they'd be flattered or insulted that you compare them to CG. :p

lol. I blame my deteriorating eyesight + modern anime. It's all blending!

I'll watch Sailor Moon if you watch Cowboy Bebop. Deal?
Here I posted the god-tier OP to sweeten the pot.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHup5T-6jqg

But you already promised me you'd watch Sailor Moon. :(

Also, I think I had the wrong expectations when I watched Cowboy Bebop, which always manages to sour an experience, even when neither the viewer nor the thing being viewed is at fault.

I really like the full Tank, but I didn't like the cut they used for the OP. :(

Your thoughtlessness in regards to nakama has brought this upon you, Envelope.

I missed his edit. :(

Ultima, you can stop worrying about your heart now. If we ritually sacrifice Envelope and eat his heart to invoke good fortune for the thread after the move to Community, I don't think anyone will complain.

Hey thorax, what do you have to say about this. :(

I said it earlier in one of my posts: It was about Bebop.

Just because we have a disagreement on one thing doesn't mean we can't be though! True nakama stick through things thick and thin, and we will.
