Allow me to third the peer pressure hype train. Good stuff. Of course the only problem is that nothing afterwards came even close which is why I haven't really kept up.
Madao episodes are good as one-offs, but none alter your perception of his character to the point that it retroactively changes everything you've seen before.
I would just watch everything except Endless Eight. You can get a pretty similar impact with less fuss by watching three episodes of it, the first and last endless eights and a randomly selected one in the middle (my preference being the fourth endless eight, I think)
Hrrrrrrrrm. Well, it's mostly on the backlog anyway. The first few episodes didn't seem all that great, which is why I didn't keep up with it in the first place.
Zetman is so toned down and cut short its not even funny. Kinda makes me sad. That first episode was a hyper condensed version of the first 12 chapters. It really missed out on a lot of heart tugs and character development too The first 12 chapters of that manga had some really really great build up. I hope the anime slows down after a few episodes, but I doubt it will since it's 13 eps and there are a crap ton of chapters out already. I mean damn they straight up removed and changed up one of the best scenes in the entire manga.

It's difficult to say. Some creditblame Jexhius, but he had posted in threads the two prior seasons as well. I myself only started really posting then, as in the previous thread I only had 8 posts. And then you had hitokage posting hundreds of times suddenly, and other posters who were already there had their post counts climb precipitously. It can only be explained as group effort, like some kind of contagious disease.
Well, if you are looking for a thread which only discusses shows airing in the season in the title, I see your point. I'll leave it to communityroll to decide if we should split Animu-GAF into two threads, one which contains ongoing discussion of whatever and another which specifically only discusses shows currently airing. Of course, by doing this, the show threads which still live in OT will become superfluous.
It's funny how it goes from about 1000 posts in Winter 2010, to 3000 in Spring, and then suddenly over 13,000 posts in the summer.
I joined in summer of 2010! But I'm not taking credit for anything, because a lot of other people seem to have joined up then too. The class of Summer 2010 were the first tidal wave of new posters.
Ahh ok, it's the OVA. And yeah, Unknown is right/ i'm wondering what kind of game it's gonna be. I mean, iM@S was the first time i've heard of these hybrid discs being bundled with anime, but G4U made sense to me given the games already out anyways.
That was the thread that made me want to be a member of this forums, although I didn't take the following step of registering on here and posting until the 'Winter 2010 Anime Thread: Wandering Son & All the Other Crap'. I thought all that was pretty fun.
I thought it was the prognosis that there wasn't anything to watch*. Of course, now we know that in hindsight that when there's nothing to watch, well, lots of posts happen.
*Okay, honestly Spring 2010 was when K-On!! started, so all credit should go to it. Keionbu/HTT (5 girls) saving anime again.
So I lose internet for a few days, and suddenly we're in community? Goddamn.
Revolutionary Girl Utena 4
I had fun with this episode. Nanami grew on me as a character here. I hated her at first, but her silly laugh and repeated failure made her kind of endearing. I kind of wish the main joke involving her wasn't so drawn out each time, but it still wound up funny in the end.
I still feel kind of odd about the initial fairy tale that starts the series. It obviously had a huge impact on Utena, but it's hard to tell what actually happened there. She definitely met someone in her childhood who gave her that ring, but we (at this moment) have no idea whether her parents are alive, and there's no evidence of any kind of actual royalty in this world. And Utena seems to (conveniently) have no memory of what this person actually looks like. Even if I didn't have a sense of the vague emotional shape of this show, my Penguindrum experience would tell me that something isn't right.
I don't think I gain too much from speculating more about the mysterious purple-haired man from the ED who will inevitably appear, so I'll move on.
It was nice to have another episode without the staircase
Level E 7
Except for the very, very end of the episode (I felt weary just seeing it), I liked the way this concluded. The gag involving the introduction of the Princess was especially amusing.
When this show works best, it does a great job of moving smoothly between moments of seriousness and wacky humor. The climax of the episode was a really good example of this.
Although I enjoyed this episode, I'll be glad to move on from the Color Rangers in the next episode.
FLCL Commentary
Exploring the extras in my FLCL Blu-Ray, I decided to finish off watching the commentary tracks for each episode, which were recorded by the director, Kazuya Tsurumaki and one of the people responsible for the show's localization. I enjoyed it a lot (I could rewatch FLCL forever), but there were a few things about it that stood out to me.
1. I smiled to myself a bit every time Tsurumaki was asked, Why is this here? and the response was something resembling, Well, I like it. These include things like cats, baseball, curry, guitars, the Vespa scooter, the names Amarao and Atomsk, and the entire Canti character. Even if there's no symbolic meaning behind them, those sorts of selfish choices give FLCL a lot of its personality.
2. There's a lot more CG in the show than I really noticed. There are a few obvious moments (there are two particular scenes of 360 camera spinning), but there's also a lot of stuff where textures are taken from actual objects or images (those eyebrows, the cockroaches in Episode 4), or the objects themselves are scanned in for use in the show (the giant hand is modeled from photos of the director's hand, even in the closeup scenes where they're standing on it, and the drinks that Naota and Ninamori drink in the third episode were scanned in from an actual beverage that was almost a sponsor for the show). Of course, there are no CG cars in FLCL.
3. In various moments where they talk about the voice actors for the show, Tsurumaki comments that much of the cast had never done voice work before. When casting, he says he pretty much aimed exclusively for the right sound for the character, and didn't pay attention to things like fluency and pronunciation. I think it turned out well, but I don't know if I'm a great judge of quality for Japanese dubs.
4. There's some kind of interesting random trivia about the production in the commentary. Episode 6 released a month late in Japan. Imaishi key-framed the entire barbershop fight scene in Episode 5 himself. Hideaki Anno is the voice of Naota's cat (who is indicated with a ? in the credits).
Are there any other DVDs/Blu-Rays with translated commentary tracks?
I've been really enjoying Fate Zero thus far. I think the story in that, design and animation is a definite leg up over Fate/Stay Night. Especially the meeting of kings part - I really loved how
Saber was put in her place
in that scene. Looking forward to that picking up again.
I just hope they don't pull a Gundam 00 for the 2nd season.
Interesting -- it seems that Bushiroad is taking another stab at an English version of the popular Weiss Schwarz trading card game, based on solicitations for English-language trial decks for Fate/zero and Madoka Magica.
