This is pretty plainly a failure in terms of its execution. The biggest issue I have with this is the pacing. Everything is just kicked through as quickly as possible as the series moves from one piece to another with little thought to their construction as a larger work. As such there isn't much impact to anything going on, and character are unable to have moments where they really stand out or show off their personality. It probably doesn't really help give characters room to shine when Medaka's chest is stuffed into the frame fairly regularly.

I don't think even Shiranui can save this show. There are places where coherency is simply ignored. Do they explain why the main character is ragged and beaten up after the Kendo hall incident? Nope. They just keep plugging along through events that have no weight to them.

ARE YOU READY, MOTHERFUCKERS?! In 24 hours, Fate/Zero S2 will resume streaming on Nicovideo. The gods of Aniplex smiles upon us. Today in Japan they screened the first two episodes of S2 (ep14 and ep15) at a special event, and the impressions are overwhelmingly positive. The quality of the animation and the direction in the major battle that picks off where the cliffhanger of last season left off is said to be visually amazing and on par with high production theatrical anime.

MY PANTS ARE OFF! I'M READY!!!!!!!!!

I was certain that the second half of Fate/Zero would be as good as the first, but I'm always a little scared when the duckroll hype-machine goes into full motion. It usually means something horrifying awaits.

The Light of El Cantare
A bit slow, I was hoping for averaging a thousand posts per day. :( I blame community!

Blame yourselves for not being as active in the day as you are in the middle of the damned night! Waking up to ten new pages of posts every morning is a little depressing.

Those scenes have specific reasons for using the backgrounds they. The zombie scene has a white background to indicate that it's a fantasy, and uses rolling clouds for that purpose as well. The scene with Babu is brightly lit to indicate that is a special emotionally charged moment where the protagonist is briefly shocked out of his ordinary world. (I couldn't find the third scene you mentioned.)

The night scenes have more atmosphere, but even that has a reason, as the protagonist is more immersed in the world of death and darkness than the world of day.

It's not a particularly lavish episode, but it has been made with careful intent which can't be reduced to budget-saving concerns.

Most of the scenes during the day have so much sunlight going on that it blocks out part of the scenery. It's like Abrams with lensflare except with sunlight. The third scene I mentioned is the one with the windows in the background and the sister saying "Something's fishy" and the window is completely white.

I mean there's a difference between the day being bright and parts of the background can't be seen due to sunlight. Whether that's an artistic choice or a budgetary one remains to be seen but I'm leaning more towards budget due to DEEN's history and how expensive the show looks otherwise.

Zombie Saten 1

Competent direction? Good animation? Is this really DEEN?

I quite liked the way this handled the opening chapters of the manga,
Chihiro's attempts to revive Babu felt more melancholy and wistful here than in the manga, where they were creepy and even unintentionally slightly laughable.

The biggest problem is still the main character, his zombie infatuation just comes across as pathetic, and makes it harder to sympathize and relate to him.
Babu's funeral was well done though.

All the bloom and lensflare was a bit overdone, I wasn't expecting Star Trek.

The Light of El Cantare
Pretty much. 99% karuta, 1% relationships.

It's 100% relationships. Chihaya x Karuta is true end.

But I can't watch anime if I post. :(

Clearly you need to become better at making up impressions. Observe:

Nazo no Kanojo X 01:

That was certainly better than I expected. Although there wasn't much in the way of actual plot, the characters were interesting enough that I didn't mind the near-total focus on exposition. I'll hold off on condemning the main character for being the usual cardboard male protagonist just yet because he obviously has a pretty unique perverse streak for wanting to taste a girl's drool. Compare him to the wiener in Sengoku Collection who pisses himself in horror at a girl changing clothes in the same room as him, and there's hope for this one yet.

I don't know if the titular Mystery Girl is only going to exist as a delivery vehicle for freaky fanservice yet, but I don't even know if I care at this point. Her design is so deliciously retro that I'm probably just going to be fixated on staring at her for most of the series. More studios really need to take a page from this one and be willing to adapt manga with non-traditional character designs. Shows like this and Zetman for this season are a start, but I really want more now.

The biggest problem with MGX is that it stays at status quo from a few chapters in, and nothing ever changes or happens. However, the anime is going to have an original story, so there's hope for it yet!

MGX hasn't even aired yet, how did you watch it?

So you're saying it's not a sports show for girls, like Kaledio Star?

I've never seen it, so I can't compare.

Chihayafuru just felt like a high school shoujo series where the romance was cut out and replaced with a Jump sports plot. I won't say I approve of this concoction generally, but I enjoyed what came out of it in this instance.

Studio DEEN Resurrection 1

Although it was nothing spectacular, it certainly wasn't craptacular either. When I think DEEN, I usually picture half-assed adaptations and poor quality shows, so this was a pleasant surprise.

Enjoyed it and will check out the next two episodes to see where it goes.

Your last chance DEEN....last chance.

Duckroll hype is a wonderful thing that we all take for granted.

It brought Blood-C in to my life and now I'm about to marathon Fate Zero season 1!

And now you realize the incredible power of being able to falsify episode impressions. You were deceived by the very post intended to illustrate the technique to you!

I've never actually done this

I don't know that seems kind of low on the perversion scale to me. Maybe anime has warped my standards.

Gekigengar bros will be forever remembered. :(

I like that the show
isn't afraid to kill off characters, though.

Not only that, but
it is perfectly willing to completely subvert expectations by having the coolest character die a completely pointless death by being shot in the dark.
That blew my mind when I first watched the show.
