How does Ichika know Japanese? Why does she have memories of some backwater planet? How did she get a school uniform if she had no money? Can anyone transfer into a Japanese public school just by showing up? What exactly was the point of transferring into school in the first place?

I guess the best way of addressing these issues is to not address them.

Things keep moving fast. I like her random technobabble. I'm glad we're hitting cliches like "King Game with drink-that-is-probably-alcohol". I'm shocked that we've practically gotten a love confession out of the way after less than 45 minutes of running time. I've got a real soft spot for action occurring into the ending credits, and I hope it keeps happening.

Speaking of which, if our protagonist keeps on
almost-dying every time the episode is about to end
, he's going to have a real problem.

Everything feels pretty firmly established now, so I look forward to seeing this movie getting made.

Fate/Zero 14

Indulgent and ridiculous, but a total party.

I kind of wish that
the Berserker/Archer fight lead somewhere, because the concept of Berserker taking control of an advanced fighter jet is incredible. Why were fighter jets sent in there in the first place? Seems like an odd response to the described problem of "tons of fog and maybe something big".

"Turns out the thing I was searching for... was inside of me... this whole time..."
If that was the only reason for Ryuunosuke to be shot in the gut instead of going for an instant kill, it was a good one. It made me smile.

This episode was at turns both overly talky and full of pointless spectacle. But all the talking is good for illuminating the perspectives of all the parties involved. Everyone in the conflict has a distinctly different ideology and worldview, and all of those things have been well-illustrated. So even if a lot of
Tokiomi's speech concerned things that had been hinted at previously, it was good to see him state in his own words how he was willing to sacrifice his family for the "big picture" of magical knowledge.
It was more of a problem how he was monologuing when he should have been starting the battle.

I'm looking forward to the conclusion of this crazy midboss battle.

Well, your analysis is certainly correct from a meta standpoint, but the in-universe justifications should be considered too.
Yeah, of course... I wasn't very serious about that... but it was something along the lines of what sonicmj1 says:

... and I couldn't avoid thinking something like that seeing the scene.

I love how all the Servants talk like the totally don't give a fuck. BECAUSE THEY DON'T.
I find that cool because makes them seem more unpredictable than they are, specially for someone like Gilgamesh.

I posted some time ago, on impressions about episode 12, this same fragment; "Archer/Gilgamesh is truly a King of Kings, and his bold schemes used to satisfy his appetite and curiosity clearly demonstrates it, I think. His interest in knowing the game mechanics and those who participate in it makes him appear as an even more dangerous Servant, with that unsettling and scary sensation of control he exerts, that reminded me of the first instances in which appeared Caster/Bluebeard. Even a mysterious and seemingly important character like Kirei resembled a dummy battered by his complacent words."

That character shows no particular interest because already thinks of the Holy Grail as part of his own treasure, and such false stance covered by his arrogance is the most unsettling thing about that manipulative Servant. You know he is going to play with such a straight face even when he surely has planned things on his own.

Nyaruko is still the winner, if you ask me.

On a related note, is it also a trap if it's not male, either?

I liked this episode, Urabe's voice is good, the delivery of some of the lines was a bit off though, she's certainly no Omigawa (though it made for a nice change of pace.)

With Nyaruko I would say no, because
there's an actual trap.

Yeah, I rarely notice female voices in anime in a way that makes me think that it's well delivered, but this time I really liked Urabe's voice, very unique and fitting.

While I'm here, I watched a lot of stuff from this season, Fate Zero being top tier of course. What a fucking amazing episode, my god.

What else... Lupin was awesome, Space Bros is great so far, Seiya Omega could be good, Sankarea seems interesting, I'll watch Medaka Box in hope for some shounen action, Accel World could be fun, loving the animation, Zetman looks generic but I'll watch it for the action and I'd say that's about it.
A lot of shows with potential to be good, and I'm still waiting for E7AO, Apollon, Tsuritama, Hyoka and Jormungand.

You know what I found rather more ridiculous? The idea that
some how the news about whole thing could be 'hushed up' and 'controlled'. If a 50 foot high squid monster appeared in the river every single person would have their phones out, recording video, taking photos and putting news on twitter. It wouldn't take very long at all for news to get out.

Thankfully, none of that is really a problem since this is set in the 90s.

That's how you solve a problem.

I do wonder why Kariya didn't throw the line, "Your daughter is being raped by worms every night you sick son of a bitch. Tell me how do you think she feels about the situation?' You think she's awfully concerned with magic's origin?"

Other than that, ok episode but didn't like the combat scenes that much.

Eureka Seven 01 and 02

Well this starts off pretty awesome right from the start.

A young boy named Renton is being raised by his grandfather.
His father died during some even I'm not sure of
He doesnt have very good grades, but gramps refuses to let him into the military, instead wanting him to keep up the family business.
Let me tell you something about this kid. He's a reckless sonofabitch. I'm guessing this will be a common problem of his throughout the series.
So anyway, one day
a mech called an LFO crash lands on top of his house. Renton and Gramps are ok but it turns out to be the very first LFO and its piloted by a very HNNNNG girl named Eureka. Renton saw the name before on this little device he has which operated these things but it ever made sense until now. Apparently, Eureka doesn't require this device to pilot the LFO, but after a currently unknown enemy begins an attack she dashes off to fight it. Gramps tells Renton to take another device called the Amita Drive to Eureka because it unlocks....something. Renton takes off recklesslessly as he is so wanton to do, and gets abord the LFO and puts the Amita drive into the mech. This causes some sort of really powerful reaction, in which Renton sort of blacks out.
Later, Renton finds himself back at home, and overhears gramps arguing with somebody.
His memories of the incident come back. He realizes some kind of connection with Eureka.

Well, first impressions are, great setting, great music, DAT SAKUGA, nice mech designs, Eureka is cute as fuck and Renton is a reckless idiot. I'm interested to see more a little later.

This is really going to be interesting seeing impressions of AO later.

For setting up events, it's doing the job alright. As others have said, it wasn't the first episode, but I didn't feel a reason it really needed to be. Kept a little bit of the humor and quite a bit of the emotion. Looking forward to seeing how things play out in the next few.

Most think the beginning is pretty weak and then it gets better. Some of the things that happen latter might be pretty surprising to you. You have listed to the first ED right. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDNRzSOG6AQ it fits the series so well.

Let's talk about the JapaconTV opening which was directed by Tadashi Hiramatus and animated by Studio Khara. There were exactly 9 sequences (most are just 1 complete cut, but some contain 2-3 smaller cuts) done by 9 different animators. I've turned each of the sequences into an animated gif so we can talk about the styles each animator applied, but I'm splitting this into 4 different posts to avoid excessive image spam. I'll try to make one post every 50 posts or so on the thread.

Sequence 1:

Eq1Vg.gif

Animator: Shinji Higuchi

Higuchi is known more for his VFX work than his animation, so it is not surprising that his subject matter and style here also reflects that. In recent years he has directed a few effects heavy live-action movies as well.

Sequence 2:

tVgkS.gif

Animator: Takeshi Honda

Honda is renowned for both character animation as well as mecha animation, so it's interesting that he chose a human subject for this piece. Maybe it's a good diversion from his work in recent years working heavily on the new Evangelion movies, or maybe he worked on this after his work on Letter to Momo, and it was a familiar theme which rubbed off.

Sequence 3:

R38CZ.gif

Animator: Takashi Hashimoto

Hashimoto has been a strong collaborator with director Kenji Nakamura in recent years, serving as both character designer and animation director for his TV projects. His style and subject here clearly reflects his effects animation background, and is also somewhat reminiscent of the sort of colors and movement seen in [C].
