You've lost me, man. Even with isms in mind, nothing about that first MGX ep was subtle. Quite forced, actually. I don't know how things progress, as I've never read the manga, but I can't imagine it going from him tasting saliva puddles on a whim to the supposed classy. I'll go ahead and give you the benefit of the doubt.
Now, I hold no illusions to Sankarea's classiness, but almost more than the idea of DEEN's rise from the grave, was I impressed with odd solemnity they were able to siphon from what I remember being a pretty fucking stupid manga opening. I'm not saying that Sankarea's classier than the other, I'm saying I think they're both gutter.
I know its a fair bit of money, but if you really want the set, its best to bite the bullet and get it now because in all likelihood the cost of the set will just skyrocket once its out of print. Buy it now and skip a few meals or mortgage your house later for it.
Thats actually a cute picture. The show has much worse scenes in it, but that particular shot isnt bad. But I say this as a fan of Broccoli anime, which have gigantic eyed small faced characters like this. (not quite this extreme but close)
Any Sakuracon folks still alive here? Gen Butch tweeted like 14 hours ago that he saw the world premiere of the Ninja Scroll 2 trailer at Sakuracon, but there seems to be no such thing. What's going on?
I saw a bunch of people on my Twitter timeline talking about this as well. Apparently it's going to be on the upcoming Ninja Scroll BD, but that's as much as exists as no-one wants to fund it's production.

Thanks for the advice, I'll need to think about it.

Has there been any indication that it's actually a limited print, though? I mean, they were pretty upfront about it with Kara no Kyoukai, but that was also something that'd already been released on DVD previously in Japan (and those DVDs are still in print).
I imagine that perhaps the US sub-print, with the additional booklet, may be limited in quantities, but given that this is the shows core Japanese release, I'd have assumed that it's going to stay in print in that part of the world for a while. If nothing else, I'd have thought it'd remain available for a least a few months after the second box is released.

Ponies, apparently. Well, maybe not in this specific case, but supposedly someone won and blew-off a personalised Kawajiri sketch in favour of going to a Pony panel...

You may be right, but I don't see a 400$ set being in print for very long, unless this really is that popular. I can believe that it is though because DAMN. Its a pretty amazing series that fully lives up to the potential that the original premise suggested. But in cases of expensive Aniplex sets, based on recent history (like that Oreimo set) I think its better safe than sorry.
It's not my favourite Kawajiri thing (which would probably be Cyber City Oedo, though I think I probably prefer his D movie to Ninja Scroll as well), but the movies worth a look purely as an example of the kind of thing which really doesn't get made these days. It's kind of just this really nuts action movie.
I just recommend that you grab Jubei's theme from the tv series as it's pretty good. I just wish it was longer. The series itself is OK, but you wouldn't really miss anything by skipping it.

Well this starts off pretty awesome right from the start.
A young boy named Renton is being raised by his grandfather.
His father died during some even I'm not sure of
He doesnt have very good grades, but gramps refuses to let him into the military, instead wanting him to keep up the family business.
Let me tell you something about this kid. He's a reckless sonofabitch. I'm guessing this will be a common problem of his throughout the series.
So anyway, one day
a mech called an LFO crash lands on top of his house. Renton and Gramps are ok but it turns out to be the very first LFO and its piloted by a very HNNNNG girl named Eureka. Renton saw the name before on this little device he has which operated these things but it ever made sense until now. Apparently, Eureka doesn't require this device to pilot the LFO, but after a currently unknown enemy begins an attack she dashes off to fight it. Gramps tells Renton to take another device called the Amita Drive to Eureka because it unlocks....something. Renton takes off recklesslessly as he is so wanton to do, and gets abord the LFO and puts the Amita drive into the mech. This causes some sort of really powerful reaction, in which Renton sort of blacks out.
Later, Renton finds himself back at home, and overhears gramps arguing with somebody.
His memories of the incident come back. He realizes some kind of connection with Eureka.
Well, first impressions are, great setting, great music, DAT SAKUGA, nice mech designs, Eureka is cute as fuck and Renton is a reckless idiot. I'm interested to see more a little later.
Really? I actually got a worse impression of him after that conversation.
It felt more like he just didn't care what happened to Sakura because MAGIC is more important than lowly human concerns like not having a nightmarish childhood.
I got the impression that he didn't know about how bad Sakura had it, that his vision of magi is so idealistic that he couldn't couldn't see someone treating their heir like a disposable tool. I think he has no idea what Zouken really is. He thinks Sakura is going to learn the Matou magic and earn power and glory, when Zouken has no interest in any of that. Tokiomi is projecting his own ideals and values onto someone who is nothing like him and Kariya knows the reality of how Zouken uses his family.
