To anybody who's ever been on the dub side of a dub vs. sub debate and posted the words, "How can you even know if Japanese VAs sound good if you don't speak Japanese?", feel free to refer back to this thread for proof that you're right.

Not that we didn't already know that from Corpse Princess...

If liking her voice is wrong I don't want to be right.

I assume that a VA sounds good if I think they sound good. After all, that's all I have to go on.

Yoshitani may be a poor actor by the standards of Japanese voice acting, but it's nice to hear someone who isn't "acting" for a change. It fits her character, who is supposed to be this almost otherworldly intrusion into the protagonist's life.

I don't think it's insignificant at all.
In the context of what is happening immediately off screen and within the larger scope of the Grail War the continued focus on
characters who don't seem to have any role in the story
seems pretty insignificant to me.

This is a classy show designed for gentlemen of refined tastes. I'm really diggin the art in that sorta 90's vibe it has going on and I also like that Urabe sounds more like a real person than an "am I kawaii uguu" chipmunk thing.

I also like that this dude has somehow managed to accomplish in a single episode what it takes the vast majority of animu protagonists whole seasons.

I don't really see how you can view those characters as having no role in the story.

As much as I like Saber I have to admit I just rewatched Fate Zero 11-13 again because Rider put her in her place and is just too much BOSS for words to describe.
Plus I wanted to see
Caster turning into the monster again
Holy fuck I love this show so much.

Is there a list somewhere of everything added?

Lemme see if I can remember off hand...

Fate/Zero Season 1 spoilers:

Ep2:
There's an added scene with Kiritsugu and Illya where they talk about how he has to go away for a while, but he'll be returning in a few weeks, but her mother won't be returning for "a long time" but she said that she'll wait for them anyway.

Ep3:
There's an extended scene at the airport which shows Iri and Saber going through the check-out and leaving the airport with the servant girls following them. The scene has a voice over by Iri indicating that she personally picked out Saber's awesome clothing.

Ep6:
The Gilgamesh/Kotomine scene is extended with a longer explanation from Kotomine about the nature of the Root and the sort of mages who seek it. It is then contrasted with Gilgamesh's nature which is one of sole material wealth and dominion over the physical world.

Ep7:
There is an extra scene before Kiritsugu lays out the plan for Saber and Iri with regards to dealing with Caster. In this scene he points out the major intersections of the laylines in the city, and they comment about how they need to consider the location of their base carefully in the later stages of the war.

Ep9:
There is a new scene where Saber talks to Iri after Kiritsugu leaves the castle, and she continues to object to his way of tackling the war. Iri assures her that Kiritsugu has it all planned out, and that Saber is extremely important. The drinking scene between Rider and Waver's false grandparents is also extended, with more banter between Rider and the old man.

Ep11:
Extended Grail Dialogue, and the extra scene between Tokiomi and Kotomine. I think everyone has seen this one though.

Ep12:
Heavily expanded scenes between Kotomine and Gilgamesh. There is actually a full run down of Kotomine describing how he feels about each master/servant, and so on. There is also an extended scene when Saber is driving Iri to the new base of operations where they talk about the location of the base, while expanding on the worldview of how the other two great families operate.

Ep13:
There's a new scene between Waver and Rider before he enters the bookstore, and he actually gives Rider money and tells him not to just "conquer" anything he sees. Later there's another new scene with Sola-Ui and Lancer, where they watch Caster from a rooftop, and she orders Lancer to go into battle.

Hope that helps!

Oh and of course all the Caster scenes which were censored in the TV broadcast are uncensored in the BD version. Oh and I think I forgot to mention on scene in ep13:
I think part of the Ryuunosuke and Caster conversation in their hideout is also extended a little.

There is also a Drama CD in the BD box which contains 35 mins or so of scenes building the relationship between Kiritsugu and Iri. It covers their first meeting, her purpose, and how Kiritsugu and her got together and had a child. It's written by Urobuchi.

This is why the anime industry is stagnant.

You know, I'm kind of glad I got the extended BLurays for all this stuff.
I kind of skimmed over the show at first and liked it enough to know I wanted to box, but these added scenes laid the story out in a lot more interesting manner. almost to the point of giving the show a different feel. It was well worth the money spent.

Heh, now that I think about it, reading the corresponding novel chapters for episodes 1-13 before rewatching them probably made most of those additions unnoticeable to me, since my most recent exposure to the story included everything. It's all beneficial from the point of view of being able to understand the story better, but I guess it means I wasn't able to challenge myself to find out what they added in the episodes. I'd rather the former than the latter though.

I wish I had been able to see the extended version right off the bat. It would have been much more interesting for me. I tend to like stories like this to be laid out in as much detail as possible. This show does not disappoint. Even Ryuunosuke seems to have legitimate reasons and beliefs for what he does, however warped and evil it is.

Toothbrushes, Guns, Drool, the japaneese medium sure has been creative of late.

And not 1 but 2 shows MGX and highly probable Sankrea will have MC's with girlfriends at the very start of the series in the same season, anime is evolving!!

Yeah, I watched the blu-ray versions so I saw all of those. Some of those scenes seem kind of important to not be in the show. Especially the
conversations between Kotomine and Archer.

Upotte!! 1 - This episode is based on the first chapter of the manga, but it's expanded. Unfortunately, almost all of the additions serve to make the anime creepier and more disturbing than the manga is. I mean, most of the themes here do exist in the anime, though not all of them, but they make everything more messed up here, and that's not a good thing.

For example, the concept that FNC is feeling funny about the idea of the teacher firing her exists in the manga, but the extended thing with her trying to avoid having her hammer go off largely doesn't. The whole thing in the nurse's office was added, and a bunch of other stuff too. The additions greatly increase the creepy teacher x student romance element in the anime versus the first chapter of the manga.

In addition, the whole thing in the anime about the teacher's face not being shown until near the end of ep. 1, and instead he's always in shadow, doesn't exist in the manga. What was the point of THAT? Just to increase the "this guy's an audience stand-in" factor? I found it a little creepy. I was worried that they'd keep him shadowed throughout the series, or something, for maximum creepyness, but thankfully they didn't. Still... why.

Now, in the manga the teacher does recede a bit in importance and FNC becomes the clear main character most of the time. Hopefully that happens in the anime as well; the preview for episode 2 was promising, as that fight is the next thing in the manga. So all is not lost. But yeah, the first ep. is a bit disappointing, I wish they hadn't added to the creepier elements of the beginning. It just makes it worse, not better.

Oh, there was one funny added bit -- that skit before the credits, with the four girls and the German teacher, was kind of amusing. Hopefully the rest of the series will have more of that and less of the rest of the stuff they added. (Of course a major part of the problem is the course material, for sure, but they DID make it a bit worse.) Also, there was some amusing stuff in the episode too; it wasn't ALL awful. Oh, and as for that part Jexihus bashed, from the festival shooting gallery... maybe it's because of over-exposure to such things, but I'm not as disturbed by that as him. For one thing, the joke at the end --
where he misses and shoots terribly and her expectations are dashed
was kind of amusing. And as I said, the manga doesn't emphasize the romantic element as much as the anime does through the first chapter, so it didn't stick with the creepiest element her reactions during that scene nearly as much as the anime.

Oh, and that scene also serves to show that she's not human. I mean, that reaction obviously isn't one a person would have. I wouldn't entirely defend it -- it is unfortunate and obviously designed for the creepy otaku that they have her react like that to a teacher -- but it's not like this is really a romance series either... if it DOES take that direction I'll be harsher on it for sure, but if it's just left at occasional (and rarer after this episode hopefully, as the guy isn't as important a character a lot of the time as he was here) stupid stuff for the fans who want that stuff, it's not something that would get me to stop watching.

And hey, look on the bright side -- at least it's not really harem, as far as I know anyway; only one of the girls has shown any interest in him. Sure, "it's not as creepy as the worse stuff!" isn't exactly a great defense, but it's better than nothing... but overall, this would be abetter series if the guy hadn't existed at all. Then it'd just be fanservice creepyness, without this additional layer of "she wants her teacher to be the one who fires her".

So yeah, basically, I didn't think this episode was that good, and it is worse than the also somewhat creepy manga version of the same thing, but it's not quite as messed up as what some people here are saying. It IS a very, very stupid show, though, certainly. But everyone knows that already, so I don't know that it even needed to be said.

This is from reading both mangas to the latest chapter.

Sankarea's already done a tonal swap away from its source. Not a fair call. Unless, MGX really switches into the classy dr.seussish fare I was hoping for later on. That'd be swell.

Did you buy the Fate Zero Box?

I haven't checked out the Drama CD or the soundtrack yet. Man this set has some good stuff in it!

I'm planning to
whenever I can scramble up enough dough. I'm just a poor student; anime and rent money can't really be mixed.

I'll just stand and bask in the glory of your boxes from faraway :(

Nonsense, this isn't like FMA vs FMA:B where the plot is crucial to the overall quality of the show. Sankarea and MGX are both episodic rom coms with their fair share of misunderstandings, ecchi moments and fanservice. Even if the writers and directors do come up with new content you can still use the source material to predict the direction of the show.

I'm not saying I don't like Sankarea, actually it's one of my new favorite rom coms, but I have no delusions about its trashiness compared to MGX, which consciously tries to tackle eroticism between teenagers with subtlety and style.

13 episodes iirc. Since they're going to make some original content I assume that there is no chance of another season.

Any Sakuracon folks still alive here? Gen Butch tweeted like 14 hours ago that he saw the world premiere of the Ninja Scroll 2 trailer at Sakuracon, but there seems to be no such thing. What's going on?
