Steins;Gate OVA

This answered my question about
the future of Okabe and Kirisu
. However, can't help, but feel a bit guilty about it. You know how it is, it felt like one of those questions that hangs at the end of a series or film that you can kinda answer yourself, but a part of you wants to see it explained by the horse's mouth. This was the horse's mouth. A part of me was really hungry to get that explained, but I could see someone not liking that it was explicitly said rather than
implied that the couple build their relationship back up
.

It didn't do anything specially visually or with its scenarios. But the little nudges here and winks there were cool.
Plus, Maid Kirisu was good ol' "Meeeow~" fanservice!

Overall, decent, nice to see the gang for a final "hoo-ra".

I didn't really like it myself. It didn't further the plot in really any meaningful way.
Main point of this was Okabe meets the future Ms. Daru and rebuilds the relationship with Kurisu. Daru doesn't even meet her and I would've wanted to see the interaction between them the first time they meet.

As a fan of the Steins;gate universe, I enjoyed it but it didn't serve much purpose other than giving us more time to watch our favourite Steins;gate characters at play. Maybe I just expected more out of the OVA than I should have. At least it wasn't mindless fanservice like the majority of OVAs are these days.

This is a Zombie?! of the dead 1: A very re-introductory episode. They really go through the motions on this one. All the characters get their bit and Ayumu exposes his magical girl sub job as well as his lovely posterior while fighting a squid megalo. Honestly I was hoping that it'd start off similar to how the first episode from the first season was (which I found to be very funny and enjoyable, can't say the same for how the show went later on however). Even the OP felt like a rehash of the first season's. Maybe the next one will be a little better after getting this first one out of the way. The inferior zombie anime of the season? I find it funny that Deen is animating two zombie anime this season and one looks like a Deen show while the other doesn't apparently.

Isnt the OP basically a continuation of the first seasons OP sequence?

Its always funny seeing gifs that have come on my tumblr dashboard posted here, the memories. That being said, her poses are so random, and always made me chuckle. In retrospect, I think I did enjoy the first episode a bit more than I initially thought just seeing screencaps and gifs of it. Though I still think Zenkishi is the best in it.

Did it come from tumblr? I found it while browsing the gifs on
gelbooru
an image board. And reading some impressions here, I really was preparing for the worst. Seems I prepared well enough because I wasn't disappointed!

For some reason, I've thought about that series of comic poses that Medaka makes at the end of the episode several times since the airing and it makes me realize how much more tolerable the first episode could have been if Medaka had only had some quirks or eccentricities to offset everything else. Defenders of the show that are familiar with the manga claim that there's a good reason for Medaka being a perfect Mary Sue, but I don't necessarily know that perfection and personality are incompatible.

This might be an odd comparison to make, but after watching a few episodes of the original Lupin III to prepare for KoikeLupin, I feel like it's perfectly possible for a character to be depicted as invincible, having unmatched brilliance, etc. and still be colorful, charismatic, and even deeply flawed. I have a hard time believing that Medaka's one-dimensional personality is attributable to anything other than incompetence in writing or directing.
She seemed like the flashy, perfect child that could actually be a really enjoyable character, but she's just... lacking in the personality department. It just... doesn't work. Nothing popped out except the fact that she was eccentric. So bland. But she did sometimes pop up behind someone and imitate them, as well as showing it in the opening and previews for Episode 2. So, maybe we need more direct quirks? Strong female role though, so... thumbs up!

Huh, you're right. That's a nice catch.
It took me a few looks until I placed it, but now I can't not see it!

Fate/Zero 9

Poor Kayneth, that's pretty fucked up what happened to him no matter how much of an asshole he was. Rider's such a fucking boss too but man, opening of this episode makes me long for a show based on Lancer's past. I'd so watch that.
I can agree with that last part, he's one of my favorite servants.

I find that very understandable. It didn't serve much of a purpose, besides a couple of lingering questions and a gathering. Though, thanks to Brazil, that was all I expected going in.

Though Daru running into her or having an interaction would've been neat. Just to hear him say something entertainingly pervy! :D

Thought this was going to be more lighthearted fare and I wasn't quite feeling it. Silly me to doubt because it turned awesome as per the norm.

Yeah, I can totally see Hibari in there.

Anyway, I just like the manga art better.
The manga art does look better, that's for sure.

Prepare for the ride that is Episode 11. As it was stated earlier, try and watch the uncut version of the episode.

Saki Episode of Side A - 01

Well that was... odd, it felt like they rushed through alot in such a short space of time, the transitions for the significant timeskips were done in such a way I had to figure out that they had actually grown up from elementary school to middle school and suss out when they were in their third year of middle school, overall it's an insignificant gripe me having to fill in the gaps myself but it was a little distracting despite being a minor issue in the grand scheme of things.

Because I'm in a mood to watching all sorts of sports anime, I may as well stick with this and see how they do Mahjong, although my first mahjong experience in anime was Legend of Koizumi so... this is going to be weird. :lol

I missed this post!

If the original Saki is anything to go by, this show will be totally unapologetic with its crazy sports metaphors. The difference being that since everyone has super powers, it's not insane like that basketball animu.

The Light of El Cantare
Koe de Oshigoto 1-2:

I am going to get so much mileage out of this screengrab.

EmmanuelMunoz told me that I would enjoy this if I enjoyed all the saliva and finger-licking in MGX. I took his recommendation.

As promised, there was saliva. Lots and lots and lots of saliva. Spit everywhere. And there's a perfectly good reason for this: the OVA is about Kanna, a sixteen-year-old girl who gets roped into the eroge business as a seiyuu by her older sister even though she knows nothing about sex. She uses her own finger (and sometimes other peoples' fingers) to practice.....uhh........certain scenes.

kkn28.jpg

You gotta earn your keep, girl, so we're turnin' you out into the porn industry!

These two episodes were basically an hour of a cute girl saying embarrassing things while thinly-censored pornographic visualizations give life to her words.

And the censorship? Rainbow johnnies.

Rainbow. Johnnies.

All of the visualizations are pretty much uncensored except for this single curious alteration. I was really just expecting an hour of girls saying dirty things into a microphone, but the sheer amount of really generic eroge sex that occurs on screen took me by surprise. None of it was particularly titillating, and while I found that it detracted from the experience for me, I suppose not everyone will find the voice acting to be enough to hold their interest.

rpMBzl.jpg

Statements like this are a huge warning sign that you're about to watch something pretty fucked up.

I...uhh...really don't have much to say. I have a feeling that Koe de Oshigoto reeeeeeeeally doesn't reflect the realities of the eroge industry, though I'd be lying if I claimed to actually know anything about it. All of the company's employees seemed too well-adjusted and clean-cut for their line of business, but this is anime, I suppose, and in the eyes of an otaku it's kind of a dream job.

I was fairly amused at the lengths to which Kanna's sister went to ensure that her line delivery was perfect because of how bad English VA is for low-budget Japanese games, even if the comparison between eroge and localized JRPGs isn't really analogous. I imagined similar scenes playing out in the offices of XSEED and NISA and laughed at the absurdity of someone actually giving a shit about the quality of voice work. Maybe eroge VA really is srsbns to Japanese gamers and the companies involved in producing these games.

I can't really offer a resounding recommendation of Koe de Oshigoto to anyone. If you're perv enough (or if you blindly accept recommendations from EmmanuelMunoz) you'll probably watch it on your own eventually anyway.

Mr. Munoz said that he'd accept a recommendation from me in exchange for my watching this, so I've tasked him with watching Re: Cutie Honey. I'm holding him to this!

Also, if any of this is going to get GAF nuked by Google Ads, let me know or just make necessary edits if you're Hito/duckroll.

キタ━━━(゜∀゜)━━━!!!!!

I'm just glad I can watch Saki again ;_;

Lots of mahjong CG but it's tolerable; I didn't expect much from the relatively new Studio Gokumi in the first place.

The characters are pretty standard fare. Only thing interesting was Shizuno's strong reaction to people leaving is probably foreshadowing of some sort.

The transition from elementary -> middle school was slightly confusing and they didn't exactly state which middle school Kuro went to so it was surprising to see her again at the end.

Not exactly the best first impression but I'm not complaining if I get more yuri mahjong.

Btw, is Nodoka in the same school as Saki is in now or is the timeline not up to there yet?

Agreed. The fact that the viewer had to figure out the timeskips is not a good sign. Even a generic "3rd year of middle school" would have been better.

I've only watched parts of Akagi and finished Saki so I'm not exactly going on much either.

I missed this post!

I'm missing everyone's Saki posts too...

Personally, I don't really expect a realistic sports anime that much anymore after watching/reading Eyeshield 21, Slam Dunk, Prince of Tennis and Saki. Not to mention if it didn't rely on superpowers, it would be pretty boring and need to rely on the strength of characters and their interactions. Is there a plethora of realistic sports anime I'm missing out on? I've heard of things like Cross Game but I'm not into baseball <_<

Running through the same 5+ mins a 2nd time just to show us what
the ghost was doing
was incredibly lazy when they could have easily pulled the same joke without doing that. Seemed pretty shitty outside of the last couple minutes. Also, hair.

Speaking of Studio Gokumi, they're the company behind Koe de Oshigoto, which I just reviewed on this page. You should probably watch it to get a feel for their work!
and to share in my extreme discomfort

Kuroko's Basket 1

I pretty much liked everything about this. The visuals are pretty good and do a really good job of representing the original work, imho, if not even a better job. The pacing was also good, with a little presentation of the characters and some play time. The "special powers" don't bother me at all and actually I like that side in this.
The little chats between Kuroko and Kagami were the most fun parts of the show, while the moment Kuroko does his thing in the game the most cool. And damn, Riko looks so fine, I like her in the manga but here she's even more cool.

More than half of these poses are from the Ginyu Force, I'm sure of it. Anyway, not much to say here that hasn't already been said. I don't think it's bad but it is far from the best of the season.

hmmmm...

So it's a bubble blowing anime?

A question, friends:

Which is the best way to tackle the JoJo OVAs, chronologically speaking? I'm sitting on the 93 and 2000.

E:

I just realized how self-explanatory that may seem, but I remember hearing that they made them out of order or something like that.

The special powers do bother me because it's completely unrealistic.
Kuroko can blend in so well, he's invisible???

sigh, i dunno. Maybe I'm just subconsciously comparing it with Slam Dunk, which was comparatively more realistic.

So you're more of a rainbow johnny guy, then, huh? It has something for everyone!

I'm almost afraid to google that term. Do I want to know what it means? I think I have an inkling but I'm not too sure.
