[Birdy The Mighty Decode 20] a.k.a sometimes, sakuga goes too far

I think this season has done a really good job in fleshing out the more interesting parts of this show (the sci-fi world-building, Birdy's past) while excising the more mundane and ordinary (Japanese highschool romance) all while maintaining a tight focus on the main storyline of this arc. As a sidenote, the animation has been of much higher quality overall than season one.

However, I really didn't like the action sequences in this episode. They sacrificed understandability for the sake of showing off some interesting animation styles. As far as I'm concerned, it the action might as well have been shot in terrible shaky cam because I can't tell what's going on half the time.

Also, I imagine this is episode that prompted Hitokage his complaints about really exaggerated character animation. There's a sequence where Birdy's features get extremely distorted and I certainly did not appreciate the effect, even though I understood what they were going for. I did not find if effective because it was so goofy.

Finally, I am really not a fan of the clothing design for ten year old Birdy:

Pretty much. It loses coherence, which is a sin for any action scene to make unless you really really want the audience to lose track.

Even though some of these haven't aired yet, these are the shows I plan to stick with depending on how the quality keeps up. MGX (despite the weird drool thing) and Nyaruko-san surprised me by how much I enjoyed them so I'm hoping they keep up with the quality of the first episodes. The others are pretty much no-brainers for the most part.

In this case, Kunihiro clearly plans out the Berserker animation sequences in terms of how he would pose, move, and attack, as well as the missile circus motions and so on, but none of that reflected as actual animation frames in the end product. Another comparison would be Imaishi's involved in Black Rock Shooter, where he and Akira Amemiya both storyboarded and directed the CG sequences, which are then fully realized by the CG and photography team.

I think this new hybrid form of anime is pretty exciting, and while it is very different from how traditional anime is made, it is still something refreshing and new, and represents a new generation of visual artists.

I thought previously on that example, yes. Makes me think on flexible integrated organization for process management on manufacturing plants, that is fairly well considered on this days.

Comparing it to the case of the animation industry, it would be more prevalent a person capable of visualizing the whole picture (like Mr. Imaishi & Mr. Amemiya) and willing to interact with everyone on different tasks for a collaborative effort, than a very specialized worker maybe not resolute enough, in need of specific directions.

This could be difficult to achieve without the right people, but when it works is a clear step forward.

I wish I were better at visualizing what's being said here about anime production, 'cause it all sounds awesome. I'd love to learn more about how animation works, but every time I read about it I just get more confused. :-/.
