Holy shit, you guys weren't kidding. This show is amazing.

It's like they threw Eri Kitamura and Kana Asumi in a studio together, force-fed the latter a ton of sugar, and told them to go crazy.

The difference between the first episode of Steins;Gate vs. Fate/Zero is that Steins;Gate had some characters I liked, namely Okabe who fucking carried that show for the first eight episodes or so. I liked Kurisu, Mayuri and Daru as well, but Okabe in particular made watching some of the slower pacing completely worth it for me. I didn't have a character like that in Fate/Zero. At least, not one who had much screen time anyway. :-/

The lack of any likeable characters who weren't
Rider
plus the standard Gen rapey stuff is my least favorite aspect of Fate/Zero.

cowboy bebop!

But there's nothing wrong about what I've said about Cowboy Bebop! The first episode is a poor introductory episode!

Fate/Zero 01:

I'll give this one or two more episodes, but so far this is totally not my thing. So far the characters are bastards, and one scene in particular just rubbed me ever so wrong. Some people are impressed by shock value; I'm not one of those people.

You may end up being very good in the end... but you've left me with a VERY poor impression, Fate/Zero.

Fate/Zero 03:

Sorry AnimeGAF. I just can't get into this. Great art. Great animation. Interesting premise. Horrible cast I can't stand (sans Rider).

Dropped.

Sorry you didn't enjoy it rurounizel. Obviously I like it alot considering how much I've spent, but perhaps I was also enjoying the characters BECAUSE they are bastards. Liking caster is pretty difficult though in light of what he's like and the historical figure he represents.

I haven't read Liar Game, but I'm guessing it wouldn't be up my alley. People tell me similar things about Battle Royale and The Hunger Games, but I can't bring myself to read/watch those either. :-/ I guess where most people I know find intrigue, I find depressing stories that just make me want to hate everyone. :-/

But on that note...

Fate Stay/Night 01:

This is like, the exact opposite of Fate/Zero. The artwork/animation aren't up to snuff and there's less going on. But I like it more at the moment. Except for the main character who I don't care for, I already like the rest of the cast a lot more. Or at least I don't hate them as much. When I have more time I may watch more of this.

I am kind of surprised in a way that you enjoy FSN more than FZ, but actually, maybe not. I can see why you'd like this one more. but Shirou is a goddamned idiot.

Minori Scramble!

The premise of this OVA revolves around a girl named Tamaki who lives in a Penguin Research Lab with her parents. Due to various traumatic experiences over the years, Tamaki has developed a fear and hatred of penguins. Her father worried by this, decides to develop a cute human-penguin hybrid robot named Midori to help her get over her aversion to penguins. This leads to some rather unforeseen consequences!

I'd recommend this to anyone based not only on how incredibly charming and cute this is, but also just how amazing the animation is throughout the entire thing. Plus, how could you say no to a face like this?

---

The best Kugiloli that isn't Kagura.

Oh dear GOD. I haven't seen this. I should rectify this problem immediately.

It looks incredibly cute though. Is the TV series like that too?

Well, decide for yourself...
Yune is very very adorable.

Yes. Once it left the desert of flash animation, Nyaruko-san was allowed to thrive, and it produced great offspring.

Good to hear!

You're a good person to try, wonzo. Even though it will be for naught in face of Envelope's pride!

I forget, have you accepted the pure light of Nyaruko yet?

Haiyoru! Nyaruko-san: 1

Shit, this is just a better Sengoku Collection. And I can't back out of Shitgoku Collection (can't give up that bet for ramen!). Now, it looks like I'm watching both. I've penetrated myself good this time.

Buying a fiddle stash gives this Nyaruko girl points

The short fights were just silly, but an opening episode can give you such things. Music was eh, transitions were bleh (as with many of these things). Character designs (sans mythical character, Nyaruko) are very boring.

But it's the first " stupid fun" show of the season, I've kinda liked due to some of the humor, so it'll stay for now.

Also, Nyaruko herself is pretty hip.

So, yes...for now!

Too bad, the show found a way to "unsold" me later on.

But yes, the first episode accomplished its mission pretty well.

I don't blame those that got turned off by the entire
timeskip
part of the show (See:myself).

Son, I am disappoint.

Heavy TTGL spoilers:
Timeskip is one of the best part of the series. I can understand why people might be turned off by the drastic change in tone but it was for the better. It clearly symbolises the maturation of Simon from budding young lad into a now responsible and confident adult. Kamina's death was the precursor to Simon's gradual maturation and coming-of-age and the time skip shows us the results of this. The shift in tone is appropriate considering the changes we have when growing up as well. It's no longer high octane, balls-to-the-wall action. It's a more restrained, more sophisticated than before but still retains that child-at-heart emotion deep inside. The anime itself evolves with the protagonist, developing the tone on another level. I can understand why people may be disappointed at first but the turning point makes it so much better, in hindsight. The first part was an entertaining if simplistic battle against evil, sometimes with a satiric tone. The second part is where it truly shines and shows how Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann can be so much more than the average hot-blooded, testerone-fueled shounen show.

Principal here sounds just like the one from Nichijou. Makes me laugh thinking about him.
It's the same VA. He does a really funny old man voice I find.

Miya's quite likable yeah. She causes a lot of the fun situations the group gets into but Yuno is still the best. Dat wideface and :firehawk. She's also a funny drunk.

Subete no aware
Saki A Side 1
I hope we get into some ridiculous mahjong soon. Tile slamming, hell waiting, tsumo drawing action. Additionally Saki is totally a monocle show.
Totally forgot about her. :p

Yeah, it was a pretty firehawk episode for sure... also, I assume the "evil" comes from that it's gambling, along the lines of poker? But with special powers like the Saki characters have, there's less chance involved...
Yeah, real MJ is basically gambling.

Search was only just fixed today. Or at least it should be. So we've lost a lot of caching in the past week or two I believe. There have been issues.

Durarara!! 18-24

What a let down the end for this show is. The kids got a lot of screen time (though Shizu got some pretty cool scenes, at least, and Izaya trolled like a boss, one could say), what I wanted to see resolved wasn't and no answers to certain things. There was the Celty fanservice at the end of episode 24 but it's not really much.
I feel... disappointed.

Steins;gate had a very washed out, unappealing, drab look without any good direction to help it out. I remember plenty of poorly drawn characters at times too.... White fox isn't that great a studio, but they do get good stuff to adapt, hopefully they can pull this one off.

The issue here is that while Steins;Gate could rely on its character drama, Jormungand, as an action series, requires skilled animation and direction to work successfully. I don't expect it to improve down the line.

You got Kaiji noses in my Jormungand. I still don't know what this show is all about and Itou shizuka isn't a good fit for koko.

Heavy TTGL spoilers:

At first thought, I believe it was the events that transpired within that "mood shift" that made me dislike it. Heavy TTGL spoilers:
Kittan confessing and kissing Yoko before going off to die, Rossiu willing to sacrifice so much using his power when he knows the problems that leads to from his upbringing, Viral joining Team Lagann, Boota utilizing remnants of Simon's drill energy to become an evolved super being all seemed to make themselves more like fan-fiction elements rather than ideas for an enjoyable canon story. I enjoyed the SUPA galaxy fighting (I guess a throwback to the untamed nature of the earlier half), but Pre-timeskip felt more smooth for me (ironic, when it's the balls-off-the-walls stuff). I guess that's where your point of "drastic turn" comes in. It was one that left me feeling a bit empty by the end of it all. I see ya, but I'm afraid it didn't mesh well with me at all. Speaking of, I have yet to watch the movies. How are they ?

I guess that's ok then. I thought you were implying the
time skip
ruined the series but you just didn't like the second half's events.

The movies are
ok. First movie is more of a recap, with a slight twist in the bosses to speed up the plot. Second movie changes a bit more. Ultimately, they still rely on too much of the original story to support itself. I'd say it's more for fans who want to relive the awesomeness of TTGL again. Still an enjoyable watch.

I decided to try FSN just in case I like it more. I don't know how far I'll go though. Fate/Zero has put FSN on a very short leash. I dunno, maybe someday I'll try F/Z again now that I have a better idea of what to expect.

I think it was probably something like:

When it aired - "Wow, TV Tokyo is a fucking terrible station."

When it aired again - "Wow, TV Tokyo is really a fucking terrible station."
Can we partly blame GAiNAX for their paranoia? How permissive was the TV station before that?

7th posted this in the Project X Zone thread and it made me wonder, when the fuck are Trigger gonna announce their next shit?
Here is a recent interview from UNDERSELL Ltd., with Mr. Imaishi and Mr. Ōtsuka (I'd like to see someone willing to translate it, as AchtungAffen hasn't said anything about it in a month):

みんなの会社のつくりかた
http://www.undersell.co.jp/minna01.html

From what I understand, right now they are still focused on the necessity of assembling a staff they are comfortable with, nothing more for the moment.

There is also an article about TRIGGER Inc., on the latest ANIMESTYLE Magazine (http://www.style.fm/as/getsuani6/index.html) that I will take care of soon, but I think there won't be any new information on it (only a little more background information of the people involved, I suppose).

Such a chill (and low-budget) episode.

Exactly 202 seconds of Nagato reading non-stop. It almost felt like an Evangelion homage.

At least there was Haruhi being cute.

I didn't really like this. It's your standard character introduction ep, except I didn't care for the character introduced at all and when you pair him up with the already unsympathetic Kouga it makes for an exasperating episode to sit through. The introduction of elemental attributes I'm cool with. In terms of animation it took a step back from the first episode, which is to be expected I guess.

And I know I probably sound like a broken record at this point but I still can't get over the cloth designs and there was something I noticed this episode exacerbating this that I feel is worth pointing out. You'll notice how once they go through their stock Magical Boy transformation sequence that their cloths will clank and clatter from time to time. What this does is that it makes it sound like armor while at the same time it doesn't look like it. As a result of this it almost feels like they're being too lazy to draw in all the actual armor detail and that they're expecting me to just fill in the blanks, which just creates this huge disconnect in my head.

Anyway, it might sound like I'm totally hating this but I'm actually looking forward to eagle chick's introduction next episode.

Feels so weird, going from post-boredom Haruhi to pre-boredom Haruhi, haha.

And then...

Wut.

Now shit got real.
Nagato and Mikuru being awesome in the same episode. Wow.

I've never really watched that, so I wouldn't known, haha.

this is the last episode chronologically in the 1st season.

Just a heads up for anybody who was looking to buy the new Bobobo Box Set from S'more Entertainment (the same group that recently picked up Galaxy Express 999), they advertise it as a dub/sub release but there are no subtitles for the episodes. The "subs" are on a separate disc in PDF form.

Still might pick it up myself though. It's $25 for 38 episodes on 4 discs (with part 2 coming in around September). Yes 38 episodes on 4 discs. I'm sure pizzaroll is crying right now :(

I heard about this last night. Probably one of the shittiest practices I've heard about, and I don't even like Bobobo. I hope no one encourages them by buying this ripoff.

I can't do this, I just can't, I can't even carry on the 3 ep rule, I can't extract anything from it, not even a misleading troll pic to make it look interesting, sorry Sugita you may have single handedly made Haruhi watchable, but you can't save this steaming pile of turd.

Aesthetically it's pretty normal nothing outstanding but not painfully awful either, the designs of the monsters are so unimaginative and boring even the stronger monster was very stock. I've fought enough shadows in Persona thank you very much, and for fucks sake they're purposefully skipping frames and passing it off as some animation effect the worst part of it, is that it happens at the most random times doing the most mundane things like answering and talking on the telephone or picking sweets out of their pocket.

Oh and with everyone looking normal and having normal hair, there's one person who stands out from the whole thing.

nqagc.jpg

Not one, not two, but triple drill hair!

The characters are soo boring there's zero chemistry at all, I mean you've got the girl and Sugita's character doing the typical tsundere act... but it's done in a boring way and that's about it, the very definition of boring all round, even the foreshadowing is complete shit at trying to drum up interest at what happens in the future.

And dear god, the CG abuse in this show was awfully cheap, the action was damn laughable and has the very stock damsel doing stupid shit and getting herself into trouble while her bodyguards help her it's all bland, bleh and blargh... fuck I'm not saying proper words anymore.

Perhaps you missed the part where I was comparing the first episodes as introductory episodes, as in, episodes designed to draw an audience in. Or maybe you just wanted to stand on your soapbox and crow about how awesome Cowboy Bebop is and how anyone who thinks it's less than stellar is so terrible, etc.

Well since you're the only person on Earth drawn in by it, maybe the problem lies within yourself.
