The Light of El Cantare
Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito 04:

I'm so fucking lost. Lillith and Hazuki aren't even in this episode, and it's all about
Ritsuko, who now wanders the land as a healer in slutty bondage clothing
. Did I mention that IT'S A HUNDRED YEARS IN THE FUTURE FOR SOME REASON AND
Ritsuko and Gargantua
BARELY AGED?

Protip: in magical battle, you're probably going to lose if all you can summon as a weapon are
butterflies
. Unless, of course, the show decides that
you suddenly gain the upper hand after you've been molested into submission by plant tentacles and win for pretty much no reason at all
.

Protip #2:
Committing suicide
is probably not a great way to convey the message that
the person imprisoned for fucking up your life
is innocent, especially when
your dad is the one who imprisoned her
.

Gargantua
is back, rocking a Lelouche cape and possessing the terrifying power to
strip girls naked by biting their necks
. He's a formidable foe to be sure.

Mai Ritoru Poni: Yuujou wa Mahou 22

Princess Celestia sucks. And there is way too much focus on Fluttershy. I guess she must sell a lot of toys :(. It’s unreal how Rainbow Dash and Applejack have been put in the stables just so Fluttershy gets even more screen time.

Anyway Celestia is a total jerk
and so is her damn pet
. She shows no affection for her citizens, she is absolutely no help to Twilight Sparkle and poor Twilight gets the dickens scared out of her any time Celestia is nearby (gonna get banished and then put in a dungeon where she was banished to!), and worst of all she’s a total troll. Messing with Mr. and Mrs. Cake like that was just wrong.

That said this episode was enjoyable in spite of all the characters I hate. Alice in Wonderland, Benny Hill and a Scooby Doo-esque chase scene. Twilight Sparkle continues to be the best character in the show, her interactions with Celestia and her friends who are totally embarrassing her are great as always in this episode.

One thing really bothers me about this episode. Just last episode it was established that everypony was a vegetarian (which I totally approve of). Well what the heck is that pink thing in the sandwich then? I guess the ponies have some kind of pink tofurky variant or something. This is really bugging me :(

Unfortunately don't have much to add to the discussion other than I really enjoyed it. Also despite some criticisms I actually liked the majority of the ED.

Yami to Boushi to RURUUUUUUUUSHU 4

sr4QX.jpg

Things happened, people said words, but I'm completely lost as to what this was really about.
Ritsuko, the loli who was saved by jill last episode, is now a nice 20 year old or so woman, one hundred years later. She goes around saving princesses by kissing them.

MbjER.jpg

Then one day,
RURUUUUUUUUUUSHU makes an appearance. He wants the princess's soul or something, and since he's actually gar, who turned into a vampire by making a contract with lilith or something
(this is all guesswork, since Yami To Boushi considers it beneath itself to actually explain what's going on),
and starts a creepy ceremony to get the soul from the princess.

tCH3Z.jpg

Of course, Ruruuushu has amnesia, so he doesn't remember killing Jill. Ritsuko tries to save the princess, and then the most boring magic battle in history happens. Ritsuko manages to save the princess, and Gar is defeated. The princess is ill from the effects of the ceremony, so Ritsuko is tossed in prison until the princess gets better. but the princess decides to commit suicide, and hopes the king won't be mean to Ritsuko. What a dumb princess.
3YV4U.jpg

Gar, who is working with Lilith, gets the promised soul.

dv0rX.jpg

I think it's important to mention the fact that there is no meaning or reason or explanation for anything that happened in this episode.
We never find out how Ruruushu became a vampire, why ritsuko is still alive, what the ceremony that gar wanted to do was, anything about the country, anything about the character, or what even happened in the magic battle, why anything happened at all, really. I really don't know who this show is supposed to be about, since it seems that the cast is killed off every few episodes and replaced with even shittier characters. The one link that seems to be always present is Lilith. And Gar seems to be the villain. And it looks like Hazuki will show up next episode to give a spongebath to a tribal girl.

Have I mentioned the ED yet? It's breathtaking.

Man, all these Yami to Boushi posts are making me want to watch it. The girls look cute and there's a Lelouch cape guy. What more could you ask for?

Don't you hate it when there's new content mixed in with a recap episode, so you can't just skip the whole thing? At least I got to hear Akio's voice; as promised, it was hot enough to make me question my sexuality.

Jump in. Strawberry Panic or whatever can wait.

I'm still finishing up Noir and I've already started Kannazuki no Mio. I've got Eureka Seven and Lovely Complex all lined up. I can't be that irresponsible.

...Because I'm a weak man that succumbs to the bandwagon effect, I'll jump in after I've finished Noir...

A return to the Naru storyline!

Fuck that ending,
I sure hope they aren't going to start shipping Naru and the glasses kid. :(

Also, Holy Shit, Tuxedo Mask's
Identity is finally revealed! IT WAS MAMORU ALL ALONG!

Anyway, the hunt for the
Crystal shards is still on, and nobody trusts poor usagi to get the job done. :(

Several hundred faces later, we get the worst youma design yet. This is some Glass Fleet levels of character design.

This episode was pretty sombre in tone, especially as there was more focus on
Tuxedo Mask and the Princess's past.

So there's this massive space laser in orbit that's the same as the one Celestial Being already destroyed. Did Katharon not stop to think that there might be a second? Was the line of thought, "Well that's a pretty potent weapon. They'd never need a second."? What happened to the surface sniping gear that should let Lockon hit stuff in orbit???

Credit is given where credit is due though and the scene of the collapsing orbital elevator brought some surprising tension. Sense of scale was a little out of whack due to so many suits just being there yet I'll give it a pass as it's the closest thing I'm going to get to a colony drop. Decent choice to end the ep with Andrei impaling his father's mobile suit but dick move for killing him off onscreen post credits. They killed the best character off all over again; maybe Andrei's dad has a twin brother that can fill the void.

Sergei. ;_; They just had to kill off the best character.

Otani refusing Koizumi's honmei chocolate pisses me off so much. So glad she chucked that shit in his face and told him to accept it. That's what I like to see! Force!

Mikage's a pink-haired bishounen, but he's voiced by man instead of a woman. Sound like any other Ikuhara character you can think of?

Poor Anthy. Her social skills are so poor she might be on the autistic spectrum, so her future sister-in-law is creeped out by her. ;_;

Her pet was just practicing passive resistance after being kidnapped. Not Celestia's fault that Fluttershy knows about dragons, manitcores, cockatrice but apparently has no clue what a phoenix is.

So about the new Eureka Seven
The animation and music are amazing
How many episodes are planned for this?

Speculation. People say twenty four, so it'll be an amazing season.

Then, the cash-in season two will be produced which will completely destroy the first season?

End speculatorion.

Eureka Seven AO 1:
Despite all the skepticism, it was a good opening. The music is incredible, and the character designs are all good. I feel like I got a good handle on most of the characters in just one episode, and Ao and Naru's relationship is set up well. You can really get a sense from the dialogue and their expressions just how they feel about each other. I also think the episode did a good job at setting up each character's voice fairly well. There's some expositiony stuff, but thankfully not too much.

Bones is saved?

Lyle x Anew? I can't support this at all!

This looks off to me for some reason. Maybe there's a lack of depth here as even with the foreshortening, it looks like he's wearing an over-sized novelty hand or something.

For one week at least.

Envelope, don't you have more episodes of Bebop the Cowboy to be watching?

Eureka 7: AO 1

This was a really solid opener. I loved the opening sequence with AO flying back to the island. The music really sold it. It kind of reminded me of JRPG opening credits or something.

dFIEM.jpg

So wait... when is this taking place?

I'm kind of baffled by exactly how this is connected to the original series, but I suspect that will be revealed in time, so I'm not going to get too stressed about it.

I don't trust Bones to keep this on the rails all the way through, but I'll watch until it gets stupid.

How good is fate/zero? Seems like it might be interesting, and is it necessary to watch fate/stay night?

It's great, and there's no need to have seen Fate/Stay Night. Zero is a prequel, and it doesn't really rely on the viewer having any knowledge of the original.

It's highly worth checking out.

I'm enjoying it without having seen F/SN. It's pretty great too, the kind of thing people can point to when folk talk about the lack of "good" anime anymore.

I spent last week watching J-drama Don Quixote and thought it was good. It's riddled with cliches but I loved the interactions between the 2 main characters.

So I wanted to watch an anime similar to it in structure, but I'm blanking out. Any light hearted comedy/drama about bros helping out each other?

Marina Ismail on blast. Good job, Shirin! Rest of the ep sucked what with
Nene Trinity doing the crazy thing, Saji Crossroad being the voice of reason, and so many Innovators.
