yeah, but a certain large proportion of the population still watches reality tv and thinks that's cool, so i dunno if you gotta be an ambassador 100% of the time
/edit i realise this is equivalent to an 'all anime is tentacle porn' pov but I don't think I've seen a single instance of reality tv i'd categorise as worthwhile
I was more thinking of the 3 billion shooters than GoW. But I guess thats a bit hypocritical of me to be fine with the occasional hack and slash game but not with shooters.
alright, so technically this isn't anime, though it is done by toei animation and namco bandai
it's actually a french CG cartoon.
it follows pretty much the same formula every episode.
and yet... I for some reason am still watching it and might even say I am enjoying it to some degree
so, think Sailor Moon villain of the week stuff combined with spiderman for combat (and one liners) the main female is a magical girl like sailor moon and even has a guidance creature like luna but her combat style is very spiderman with wall jumping and using a yoyo to swing from building to building. She has her tuxedo mask but he is reversed to sailor moon where he is mostly one liners in tuxedo mask form, and charming in normal form and spidermoon is still in love with his charming side, thus doesn't have romantic interest in his tuxedo mask side.
It's just odd and amazingly even though the villain count is up to 21 we haven't really had a similar feeling villain. Just had to do a quick review somewhere and because it is so inspired by sailor moon I figured this would be a good place to do so
Oh man I stumbled upon this not too long ago, and ended up seeing just about or all the episodes french with subs ha ha. Ladybug is like Spiderman and Sailor Moon's child indeed lol. I honestly think it a pretty enjoyable show with two wonderful main characters, through I am glad that they going to push in more story arcs for season 2 and 3.
Did you seen the 2D concept video or such that helped push this project to be greenlighted? Apparently there are plans to have a actual 2D series eventually.

ah are they, that is great to hear as while the villain of the week hasn't grown completely tiresome I don't know how long they could do it before it did (plus they are almost out of characters, sure they can introduce more but there is only a handful of people she interacts with that haven't been transformed at this point.)
I am watching it in english, it's got a decent cast for that. I think it is done where aniplex does their dubs which I think is bang zoom as the two leads are from seven deadly sins.
edit: I did see the 2d promo and I feel like in this case the 3d CG was a better choice. not that I don't like the designs in the 2d stuff, but that the 3d helps it stands out more and is done decently well. plus I have to imagine that the CG is faster to make than the 2.5 years it takes to make an epic of Star vs the forces of evil.
edit 2: hmmm ladybug 21 clearly comes before ladybug 20. I was wondering how the rocker knew the main female and why he would ask her to design his cover. I figured I just missed something, turns out I missed the episode that came after it lol.
We almost did get a Gargantia sequel, but it was apparently cancelled and turned into a novel for some reason. Perhaps one day they'll get everything sorted out.

Yeah I think it would get old fast if they didn't mix it up with some arcs and such, through Season 1 ended with a two parter. But anyway be interesting to see how it goes next.
And yeah, the CGI look has done well, so I okay with it. The 2D series is actually just going to be a OVA, but that fine.
Edit: As for the last thing, I have no idea what the episode order is liked for the english version currently, but last I saw they changed it up from the french version. Like the episode with the storm girl was the first episode in the original, while it is the third episode in english. I don't think it matters in most cases through, but something like the Puppeteer episode wouldn't make sense to be before the episode with Lady Wifi.
Well his publisher hasn't dropped him I assume...of course I dont really understand how rights are divided with Ya fiction in Japan. I'm guessing Mamare doesn't hold a whole lot, on the other Enterbrain are pretty unlikely to drop Mamare and hire someone else to continue Log Horizon.
Do authors normally stick with one publisher or jump around?

We did a "Let's Watch" for it as well and nobody could figure it out at all, so your not the only one. There has to be some thing online, but I haven't seen anything that makes any more sense than what we think....
Not entirely relevant but my two cents on the show: I love Gargantia because it gives a good sense of scale with its setting (goes from space battle in one corner to a small post apocalyptic civilization in another corner) and even pushes for some interesting themes through out the narrative.
I enjoyed Gargantia a lot but I'm not a big fan of episode 5. Not because it's a slice of life episode (that was cool and can be used to develop characters like it was in episodes 4 or 6) or because of the fanservice (I like the character designs and the dancing in episode 6 was cool), but because a lot of the episode felt like it was just tacked on. Gargantia is a wonderfully directed show with tons of good animation, great designs, and great backgrounds. I have an artbook set that's like a thousand pages of design work and it's amazing how much detail and planning went into the show. It doesn't really feel like your typical late night anime and distinguishes itself quite well. But episode 5 is filled with boring "pan over character in swimsuit" shots and the like that you see in any other two-bit late night anime these days. Outside of the scenes where Ledo was trying to get the item for Pinion and the ending of the episode with the gliders, it felt like the production staff didn't really care about what was going on. It really felt like those parts of the episode were mandated to sell BDs or something and the production staff was just going through the motions until they got back to the interesting bits again.
It sucks that the sequel plans fell through, yeah. I have the BDs of the OVA (I imported the entire series and the OVAs from Japan since they were published over there with English subs) and it's worth checking out if you want more of the slice of life scenes. About half of the OVA feels like "we wanted to include this in the show but didn't have the time", particularly the undersea scavenging part.

I think the fact a lot of us don't care about the perpetuation of negative stereotypes or feeling the need to justify their hobby would make this difficult.
I understand that. To clarify, I don't expect many, or even any, posters in this thread to behave as I suggest. I just did a poor job of explaining my position on this matter earlier and I wanted to clarify what I believed, so I didn't sound like a drive-by troll.
Moreover, I don't even consider acting in this many to be a form of justification for the hobby. I think, for the most part, working too hard to justify a hobby can make someone come off as sounding overly defensive and insular. It's largely hard to argue from that position.
Instead, I was just looking to draw a line under the kind of content that many consider to be inexcusable and show that we, as a community, are aware of it and aren't looking to excuse it or minimize it.
Similarly, you can't exactly decide where on the "offended by x content" gauge you fall on. Whether through desensitization, never taking much issue with it in the first place, or being some deviant that straight up accepts/enjoys it, how much you actually care to call out something is going to vary greatly. In that case, the only point of giving the argument more weight than we care to give it comes from being accommodating to those on the outside. Which is of course fine as it's nice to have more people sharing your hobby, but feeling obligated to do it won't change much and just detracts from people wanting to enjoy their hobby in peace.
I think it would be nicer if us in the English-speaking world could actually affect the production side of things rather than feeling the need to reassure people why No Game No Life is a solid series despite the problematic aspects.
I certainly agree that it would be nice if English speaking fans could do something to affect the reality of production and improve anime's image. Of course, such a situation developing is unlikely considering that this content is made specifically to target an otaku audience who clearly want to see this kind of "questionable material".
Again, I'm not looking to personally defend or justify any one show to a wider audience. Neither am I advocating for a complete rehabilitation or anime's image, as nice as that might be. Nor do I expect others to rally to my position.
Instead, I am just saying that the kind of language we, as anime fans, use to talk about this kind of material is important in so much as it effects how people view the community. Whether or not you care about that is entirely a personal matter.

Usually stick to one publisher, especially for long running manga or novel, but itss not really a rare case for author to change publisher when their contract end.
I can't understand how anyone who loved the TV series can possibly enjoy Rebellion.
It didn't push the series to the next level, it regressed it. What was once a genuinely well-written show about girls being caught up in a terrible system and how one girl stood up against
it at the cost of her own existence
is now a complete mess of a movie where the only real important event happens in the last 10 minutes.
Whatever ideas Rebellion tried to do aren't nearly fleshed out enough in the film. The entire film is nothing more than one big tease that completely undermines everything the TV show set out to do.
AND DON'T GIVE ME ANY OF THAT CRAP ON HOW IT SHOULD DO THAT BECAUSE THE MADOKA FRANCHISE "IS NOT A HAPPY SHOW".
Every time I hear that argument I only hear the voices of the people who never truly understood what Madoka Magica was. It's freaking infuriating. Madoka Rebellion undermines the villain of the original to undermine another character to undermine and demean the message of the original.
And stuff like this is supposed to be considered good. Just...ugh.
My feeling is that the film was a cash-in anyway, and rather than be completely aimless or a pure retelling like the first two films, they just decided to say fuck it and give us the fantastic orgasmia that is Rebellion.
I was more thinking of the 3 billion shooters than GoW. But I guess thats a bit hypocritical of me to be fine with the occasional hack and slash game but not with shooters.
Most shooters don't contain any sort of torture porn elements. The graphic violence comes in short bursts and are often the consequence of the player defending himself from to progress. God of War is a series that thrives on not just prolonged sequences of sadistic violence, but actively encourages the player to partake in extreme and unjustified cruelty on enemies. It's truly baffling that such a psychotic series can be so popular, and promoted by a first party no less.
Joker Game 4
Hey at least it wasn't full of historical errors this time, maybe they should stick to telling stories in Asia. Or maybe I just didn't notice them as I'm finding it increasingly difficult to give this show more time to prove itself worth watching.
After 3 episodes, I'll say the funniest thing about Joker Game is how for a story about a national spy agency set during a time a war where said nation is an aggressor, it tries so damn hard to be as neutral as possible, to the point of being comical. At first I found it refreshing that it was pragmatic about what spies do, but the guy's reaction to Japan and Germany being official allies in ep3 was hilarious. I don't find it believable at all that someone in that position would be surprised at all with the developments in 1940. Just weird.
I really liked GoW for the dramatization during the cutscenes and I adored the dialogue delivery, rewatch all cutscenes of the 2nd game sometimes.
My favorite is definitely the cutscene with Perseus, he had some great lines.
Violence - I will admit I was a fan of it during the time. Now, I'm not sure if I'll appreciate the violence to that degree the same way, much happened since GoW days.
Osomatsu-San: 3-6
A few jokes didn't work for me, but it's solid for the most part. Certainly good enough that a fart joke was actually funny. Episode 5 was brilliant. It was both touching and at the same time it had just the most amazing punchline by bringing up what happened in the first story of the episode.
Oh god, reminds me of the time I was watching my brother play God of War. We pretty much made fun of his whiny, petulant, childish, idiotic character traits. I freaking hate this character.
Pretty nice ending, and a strong finale. I thought that things were moving a bit too fast sometimes and it may not be the action show I hoped for, but it still managed to be both emotional and quite the spectacle for the story it tells. In the end, this anime was a family story,
where the family destroys and recreates the universe
, and it's really enjoyable for that. Also, as I've already mentioned, the show looks really good, and it's packed with great visuals and good animation. Shows like this makes me wonder about Toei Animation and their capabilities.
I didn't really have a problem with that. It's just that the action itself had a lesser role than I hoped, even though there were 2-3 very good action scenes.
Does anyone really care about tax evasion other than the authorities though? My impression is always that people who get jailed for tax fraud are laughed at for getting caught but otherwise it has no real lasting impact on their reputation. To commit tax fraud to begin with suggests that a person is earning quite a lot of money, so that usually doesn't change.

Depends on the culture. In some places it is seen as shameful and in others it's considered outrageous, since people evading taxes means that other people have to pay more to compensate or at least that's the sentiment.

The movie really bothered me because its ending violated the rules of the show as I understood them, undermining the thematic message of the series. I can see why it made sense on a character motivation level, but that doesn't mean it should have been handled the way it was.
