Square Enix asks fans about if Persona 5/FF15 were out at same time, release hint?

Seriously, if they released FFXV within the same month of Persona 5, causing it to cannibalize the latter's sales, I'd be pretty damn pissed. We want the genre to be healthy, and turn-based RPGs on consoles are unhealthy enough.

Please Square, give it 3 months at least.
This. If anything FF releasing close to Persona would destroy Persona sales. The genre is fragile, please don't fight each other for sales as it is.

I dont think SE wants to hurt p5 but if it comes down between releasing next to Destiny 2 or P5 SE wont have a choice.

FFXV. It's been a long time coming but I would get P5 a couple weeks later. But seriously, if the two came out on the same day I'm certain it would be pretty bad for P5.

They should just talk to Atlus.

Find out when they plan to release P5 and release 5-6 weeks either side.

I'm sure Atlus would like XV to relesse first. It will push up the install base in Japanese like nothing else.

Persona 5 easily. Though I'm not really hyped for XV. I'll keep an eye on impressions, but from what I hear about the XIII games I don't think I should get too hyped just to be safe.

FFXIII has nothing to do with FFXV, they are different games. At one point they fell under the same mythos of Fabula Nova Crystalis, but not so much anymore. No need to judge FFXV based on how mixed FFXIII was received.

Persona 5 looks to have the same gameplay foundations of P3/P4, so it's already very appealing.

This. In a way the idea of them both releasing in the same period is amazing, even if I'd have to import P5...but they're both big rpgs. Where am I going to find time to play them? Maybe one in May/June, another in September.

Persona games are longer on average, I feel that if you want the Jrpg genre to be healthy you would want space between both games. Both series need to thrive if we want more rpgs.

XV is Japan most anticipated game so why compete. They should talk it out.

FF15 all day err day

Final Fantasy XV's sales will be far more than Persona 5's, but releasing in close proximity to each other also wouldn't destroy Persona's sales. The fanbase is consistent, and it would still be successful.

Still, with both being large scale JRPGs in a way we don't often see these days, it's better for everyone if the games were spaced apart.

Can we please keep PC port begging out of this thread? This isn't what this thread is about.
Persona 5 all day every day.

Yeah, plus I doubt Atlus doesn't want to compete with FFXV either since I imagine XV will have a way bigger marketing.

FFXV originates from the brilliant mind of jeux-auteur Tetsuya Nomura and will not only sell boatloads of PS4s in Japan but start the age of cinematic RPGs paired with both hyperrealismé and masterful game design. Yes, the last demo was lowkey rough around the edges but that's because it's a game that demands everything from the consoles. I prefer avantgarde open-world action-RPG gameplay to linear, turn-based corridor moé bullshit at any time of the day.

I am with you actually. FFXV all the way

The entire FF series is anime as fuck.
Persona 5 is full anime though. Not that it is a bad thing, but it obviously won't sit well with some people. I wouldn't really consider the Amano designed character as Anime for the past FFs. There are nowhere close.

Final Fantasy XV goes with a more realistic visual style. I mean look at these character designs.

They are mixed with some that look like they are straight out of an Anime i.e Noctis and Prompto.

FF XV and, even then, I'm really not all that hyped for it. Never played a Persona game and don't really care to. I despise anime. A very unpopular opinion, I'm sure, but I'm just being honest.

Why bother? Both games are anime lol you're in the wrong lane buddy.

Atlus and Square should both be working together with this. Commit to a release month each, lets say July/August for Persona and August/September for FF.

Work together to also push up the install base as much as possiblem

Am I the only one who would wait for reviews before picking between these two games?

The real question is will I finish Fallout 4 and then Xenoblade chronicles X and then the Witcher 3 Expansions and then Trails in the SKY SC before Persona and FF 15 hit?

Tell me it's not a glorious time to be a fan of RPGS from either the west or Japan? I've got amazing games lined up for at least a year and a half at my current rate of play. Also Dragon Quest 11 will one day be a thing. And DQ 7 3ds is coming west which i'm super excited to play again.

Thats what I meant. Instead of competing they should talk and strategize beforehand, leaving enough breathing room between each release.

Both titles are key for pushing up the install base in Japan.

Yeah, I'm planning on getting both, but I need to save, so I don't want them to be so close to each other.

You're right, "destroy" was hyperbole, but yea it's just not smart (for both of them). They ideally want to work together in the shrinking market of big budget JRPGs to boost each other.
SNES era, 9, 12 and Tactics says no.
6 and 9 are very anime. No way around that (haven't finished 4,5, or 12 so I can't speak on those)

Not nearly as trope-y as most other JRPGs, but FF has always had an anime flair to it

Se has like 6 turn based games coming next year.

Square: "Hey, I hear some people still like turn-based or something. Let's give them a bunch of mid-tier games that we don't put as much effort into as our premiere franchise. Oh, and let's change the battle system of the most asked for remake of all time so it's something not even resembling turn-based."
Atlus: "Hey, seems some people still like this turn-based thing. Let's not fix what isn't broken and keep our premiere franchise turn-based."

I just CTRL+F'd every page with 'Persona' and almost spat out my drink - has GAF become weeaboo heaven?!

Persona 4 Golden is a legit 5/10, dungeon design is astrocious and the whole edgy anime character shtick is embarrassing. Okay, the UI is hard - but the rest? Y'all get blinded by your affection for 2D anime characters that are as flat as their character portraits. And now you want another one of those basura Social RPGs (can't believe I'm even typing this)?

Pass. Try again. Or better yet: don't.

Jeux-auteur. Damn you really put some effort into this fiddle. Nice...

It's easier for Atlus to be satisfied appealing to a niche when their games are a generation behind or more in production values.

I love both though...

It is very anime I don't mean this as a slight so I can understand why some might be put off. But the characters are very fleshed out since social links expands their backstory which in return make you more attached to the characters. The High school setting ain't for everyone. The game feels awesome because you feel the passage of the seasons and time it's very well done.

There's a reason I fully intend to try P5.

I dug some of the quiet moments. Like when he's chilling with his family at home during dinner or whatever. And I like how the overall world itself felt alive, in part because of the passage of time. Also, this fucking guy. XD

I'd love to see this style of game paired with a crime story sort of like Monster.

Wow, that survey starts mentioning Persona 5 indirectly around Q15 when it wants to know whether you like picaresque anti-heroes.

For us Europeans this question is irrelevant. If FFXV and P5 launched at the same time in Japan, we'd probably get FFXV around the same time and can then wait 1 year for P5.

Dragon Quest isnt a premiere franchise?

You guys would choose P5 over the mythical and mysterious FF15? I'll be getting both day 1, but if I had to choose, I'd choose FF15 just for the sheer spectacle of a game finally released after years and years of development hell.

SE will probably spoil everything noteworthy about FF15 ahead of its release anyway.

I haven't seen anything from FFXV that would get me near as hyped as I am for P5 with only 3 short trailers.

Also dear god that is a long survey.

But people have been waiting for Persona 5 for 8 years.

Yeah, it's question 16 (might vary depending on previous answers).

It asks what you're into in an RPG, and optional answer #2 is anti-hero (Picaresque romance).

I'd argue it's easily the least "anime" of the big JRPG franchises.

Dragon quest? One of their biggest franchises?

Or are we pulling a jimquisisition and just moving goalposts because we actually don't want to do reasarch on SE.

I don't have a lot of faith in Final Fantasy delivering a great story, I am way more into Persona, but I will get Final Fantasy XV eventually regardless, since I know it will be pretty, and it looks like an awesome return to form for the series. Here's to hoping both are awesome games.

I mean, I'm a lot more positive on FFXV than quite a few people here, I think what we've seen up until now looks really awesome, but I gotta say, if I had to choose, I'd go for P5. I've been thirsting for P5 ever since I played P4, and what we've seen of P5 looks just amazing.
