I'm so glad i didn't get a hull-c now. (i've already got a merchant man)

People that melted their MMs for Hulls based on specs were fools. Save those sorts of drastic measures until the last day. Considering how CIG has managed to screw up the initial specs on pretty much every ship release, it's best to just wait for the dust to settle. I mean, it's one thing if you didn't already have a dedicated cargo ship. Already have a cargo ship - especially if it's supposed to be one of the best? Sit and wait for clarification.

So I last installed and played this when the dogfighting module hit. I recently re-installed it and messed around with the racing mode, but was wondering what's the latest summary on the state of the game. What's changed with the dogfighting? What's the next module coming and when? Anything else significant? There are so many updates on RSI, it's kind of hard to figure some of these things out, particularly how the game is coming along.

Next up is the FPS module, and it should be rather soon. After that, it's the social module, and then the multi-crew ship update to AC. As for the rest of your questions... Frankly, if the last time you paid any attention to the game was when AC first hit, then so much has changed that there is no way to quickly summarize it all. You'd probably be best off reading the monthly reports.

I don't get it, how do I load up this hangar tutorial thing?

As with all new PTU publishes, you will need to re-copy your account over at https://robertsspaceindustries.com/account/ptu.

Instructions for Public Test Universe:

- Log on to https://robertsspaceindustries.com with your normal credentials
- Click My RSI on the top right, then My Account, then Public Test Universe (in yellow) or go to https://robertsspaceindustries.com/account/ptu.
- Click “Copy account to PTU” to start the account copy process over from the Live Service to the PTU Service. This process may take several minutes to complete.
- Once done, you’ll receive an email with your PTU password and additional instructions for how to access the service.

Oh really, huh? I wasn't expect the FPS module soon, that's exciting. As for all the other stuff, didn't realize there have been lots of changes, the only immediate one I noticed was the player freaking out and the screen going red when I turned too quickly, I presume g-force. I'll just take your advice and make the monthly reports my reading material for the evening. Cheers.

Thanks VisceralBowl, I didn't see anything in the launcher patch notes section.

Now I just need to figure out how to get my X52 sensitivity squared away. My controls are super squirrely. I'm sure part of the problem is I don't want to use stuff like COMSTAB or ESP. But dialing sensitivity and/or editting a curve is being pretty problematic for me.

It doesn't help that my brain is getting super confused by playing Elite. But it does seem like Arena Commander is in a decent enough state to where I should probably start playing it and try to git gud.

Yeah, you can red-out and black-out from the g-forces associated with maneuvering.

As to there being lots of changes, AC alone has seen many. UIs have changed. Ships have heat/EM signatures now. Gimballed weapons have changed. Missiles have also changed. That's just some of the stuff that I can think of off the top of my head. Get somebody that has played it on a regular basis from back then, and you'll have a laundry list of changes. Then once you start adding in all the changes and progress made in the rest of the game, it quickly gets to be something that'd end up as a giant wall of text to cover lol.

The monthly reports will take a while to get through, but they're pretty much the only reasonably concise way to get a feel for how much the game has progressed over time. Without that, it's kind of hard to appreciate where they are now.

Thanks for the info. I was expecting there to have been a lot of changes and it's good to see that there have been. The usual places I frequent don't really cover SC so I go huge swaths of time without even remembering it exists or whether they are even making progress. I kind of look forward to reading through all of these monthly reports and then getting back into it a bit, especially with the new graphics card too.

Hull C Q&A said:
“The center spine on the C D and E. Is it large enough to have crew walk through it, and for that matter is it hollow?”

Yes! We’re still working out the details, but it should be large enough to walk through on the Hull D and E, and large enough to crawl through (similar to the Jeffrey’s Tubes on Star Trek) on the Hull C. In all of these ships, it will be advantageous for an engineer to be able to reach the drive unit on occasion.

I was wondering about this given the vault had images of a person walking through the spindle, but the spindle was quite obviously from much earlier in the design phase, and the current Hull C's didn't seem big enough to get through. Didn't think about crawling through it! It'll be a pretty long crawl though given the size of the C... Better hope that it's not an emergency or you'll be on pins and needles the whole way.

It could be slightly early for CIG to show Squadron 42 in the quality they want.
Although performance capture should be already two months in, so if they captured vertical slice cutscenes at the beginning, they would have time to polish it to the quality they want.
Maybe, but i think that Gamescom is better time for CIG to showcase Squadron 42 in the full quality.

It is also THE perfect opportunity to announce the famous actors for SQ42.

This will definitely happen.

you're joking, right?

if Star Wars 7 weren't getting made, I'd agree with you, but it is, so I don't. That dude is back to being relevant again now.

I'm joking ... kinda. I mean, he was/is on Arrow, he has worked with Chris before, who knows. At the very least, a cameo of sorts might be in the works. Besides, we all know who the biggest name attached to the project is going to be.

Star Citizen will probably raise the 200 mill budget of Star Wars 7 before release :D

Only need another 120 ship sales or so. That or start selling the Bengal @ $500k a pop. ;)

Seriously though, I have to wonder how much money they'd bring in if they sold a cheap EVA unit of sorts. Something just big enough to hold a person that could sort of perma-attach to the docking rings of the ships. It wouldn't have any firepower, shields, jump capacity, etc., but would have huge visibility in all directions and allow you to do short forays out of the ship and take in the view (of space or your ship). Basically something in between a small ship and just being out there with your suit on.

It would be interesting to see how effective selling something that a large percentage of ship owners could take advantage of would compare to the selling of considerably more expensive ships to a smaller portion of the player base. Granted, that's more of a one trick pony as there aren't too many cheap things you could do like that.

Actually, just think about how many polys are in that scene. That's 64 highly detailed ships plus the crate structures plus the Hull E itself. Then add in the escorts and whatever other ships will be in the vicinity. Even with LoD reductions, there's going to be a hell of a lot of rendering going on.

On a somewhat related note, I caved and got a Hull C. I'm going to need to start leasing ships lol. ;)

I went ahead and got a Hull C. I imagine most of my day to day operations in the game to earn credits won't be done inside a starfighter that has barely enough space for myself and one passenger. The LTI was also too good to pass up.

We should organize a GAF space truck convoy when the game hits. :)

Dat Shubin.

Looks like Chris & co. are having fun in GB with the performance capture and things are progressing well. Fingers crossed they show something S42 related at E3.

April monthly report said:
This month we implemented a new 3D-to-2D “point of view” radar in the style of Wing Commander’s radar. Though range can be harder to discern with this radar it makes it very easy to know where your contacts are around you and which way to turn to get them in view. We started by using Wolfram Mathematica to rapidly prototype the math necessary to map a 3D direction onto the display, creating both an interactive output and a test output using a generated array of test points so we could see any mistakes that needed fixing. Once we were sure the math was correct we brought it all into C++ and hooked it up to the flash through a custom dock item field, then attached the flash to the front HUD of an Avenger to test it. This new radar type will be appearing in certain ships soon.

THANK GOD

FINALLY

Maybe I'll play the damn game more now. That 3D radar is unusable and unfun.

Figured there might be a small amount of overlap and since there is no flight sim thread on the site I figured I'd ask here. Has anyone spent time with the new Il-2 Sturmovik game Battle of Stalingrad? Currently on sale for 30 dollars(down from 50) and was wondering if it was worth the investment.
