But the theaters here have a Wednesday night showing and several throughout Thursday.

I'm seeing it on the 15th @ 8pm because I bought tickets via the STID app, but I also know that my Regal will be showing it on the 16th at midnight as well.

Basically, choose what time suits you best to see the movie, especially since the 2D version will be playing as of Thursday.

Sure, I'm just confused. Is it actually showing during the day on Thursday throughout the country?

Heh, my local IMAX is having 8:00 and 12:00 showings on Wednesday night. Basically sounds like a midnight showing sans the hassle of staying up until 3am.

Again, having an 8pm showing is the best thing ever. Getting the 'midnight' IMAX poster at 8pm is also awesome.

Also, my friends and I discovered that the sweet-spot for big budget movies that are run for 24hrs is at least a 3am showing (assuming the movie is 2.5 hrs long), especially if you work or have school in the morning. Basically rest when you get home, wake up early as if you are getting ready, watch movie and by the time you walk out, it's 'time to get ready'. Grab breakfast somewhere and just chill until you start your day as usual.

I have to say that I'm pretty fucking disappointed.. in myself for not being hyped up nearly as much as should have been prior to this movie.

My heart can't take these twists and turns!

Glad to hear that Giacchino doesn't disappoint. Judging by one of the trailers I was worried that the soundtrack would lean too heavily on the doom and gloom, resulting in a something distinctly un-Giacchinese.

]I will say that the converted 3D is worthless, which is to be expected after Abrams made it clear it was forced on him. Though there are one or two shots that put the scale of some things into perspective that were rather nice. But otherwise I wouldn't bother unless it's the only way you can see this film on a big screen. Because you do need to see this film on a big screen.

God. I guess I will ended up seeing it on IMAX.

Edit: Oh wait, just saw this. Whew!
Wasn't shot in IMAX save for a couple sequences. You'll also be forced to watch it in shitty converted 3D. Don't make that your first IMAX experience.

So much better than the crap design in the Abramsverse. The new design is too fat.

it looks almost exactly the same...

I got IMAX seat for my 1st screening. Is this going to be a big mistake? I remember watching the 1st one on IMAX on my 2nd screening and realizing that I couldn't see the overall picture because the screen was too huge for my eyes to scan quickly. Maybe I should see it first on normal theater.

The ship designs and stuff in this film are so damn sexy. I love that he made the practical sets of the Enterprise in this film much bigger. There are a lot of cool sets that he uses. Dude knows how to mix CG and practical stuff very, very well. It's just another reason why he's such a great choice for Star Wars.

Did they get a chance to improve on the ship's brewery?

You have a weird definition of the word "sexy." The ship designs in Abrams' universe are the worst Star Trek has ever seen.

I'm biased towards the TNG model, it was my first Star Trek series and it's the design that comes to my mind whenever I read the words 'USS Enterprise'.

I haven't watched Enterprise, but man the J model looks like hot garbage.

Voyager's theme is fantastic, as is DS9's. And your whale comparisons are funny, given how the Enterprise in the Abrams's universe is fatter than Voyager.

Big she may be, bur the Abrams Enterprise got curves in the right places. The Intrepid is like watching your overweight mother in law laying on her stomach at the beach and all of her fat is succumbing the the gravitational pull of the earth.

Also they've said to have 'fixed' the scale issues from the first film, and the Enterprise is no longer Sovereign sized.

The Nova is what a sexy Intrepid should look like.

It's pretty much a fixed version of the Intrepid yeah.

If you ignore the Enterprise A, B, C, D and E, you may have an argument. I'm not really sure what "sexy" means, but it's far from the best looking design.
It's sleek and sexy like a classic sportscar. And it has the 60s retro style that classic Trek is known for. 90s Trek designs really didn't age well by comparison.

There was nothing sexy about the ship designs or uniforms in that era unlike TOS/Abrams. As much as I love TWOK that movie began the trend of losing Treks very unique and sexy style that came back in 2009.

That's where I saw the 2009 film in IMAX. Definitely worth it, but I'm not sure if the first one was specifically shot for dome IMAX.
I've actually never been there, so I have no idea what it's like. I did go to a Lewis & Clark documentary at the Omaha zoo IMAX theater many years ago, but that's my only IMAX experience. Do you think it would be worth the hassle of going there over just seeing Star Trek in Ames?

If you're going to make up an analogy, at least try to make it make sense. Besides, this is getting far from my point that Trek has seen far better ship design. Especially the Enterprise.

How can it be sleek and sexy if it's fat? And 90s Trek design has aged fantastically.
Sorry, Sculli, but the Enterprise E is a far better ship. :P
Never been a fan of Trek ships.

Aww yiss.
I LOVE Stargate's ship designs too. Asgard, Prometheus, and that. But how can you not like the E?
I'd like the Abrahms-prise more if the nacelles didn't look so damn stupid.
This.

I swear to god if one of you 'i read the spoilaz lulz' fuckers spoils this film I'm going to dedicate my forum time to spoiling every goddamn movie I see before you.

So tempted to spoil this just to spite you.

What is the word on the 3D in this film? Wondering if it's worth it..or if I should go to 2D since I prefer that anyway.

The new movie's 1701 is great in motion and suits the action of ST. The exaggerated deco doesn't look good in stills.

1701-B for life
