Someone tell me that if you time a block from a laser blast it bounces back to the shooter?

this is important. I have nerd chills from the Jedi using lightsabers to block lasers. Will instant buy if this is the case.

Yes. Easiest way to kill normal Stormtroopers.

Well that settles it. Game looks decent enough and that seals the deal. Buying today.

Question.
I saw pre-release game play footage where enemies blinked red when doing certain attacks. Can this be turned off or is it auto turned off on hardest difficulty?

Literally the first thing the game teaches you when you get the lightsaber.

If you time a block you do a parry that allows you to counter

Would you guys gameplaywise compare this game to the first Jedi Knight games from 20+ yrs ago? Or is it rather like a more scripted/cinematic/linear experience?

Will definitely give it a try once gamefly receives my copy of days gone (shipped over 2 weeks ago smh).

I really loved Unleashed, hope this can somewhat fill that gap.

Has anyone here ready the eurogamer review? Even though everywhere else it has the 8's and 9's they say having to backtrack and slog all the way through a level can be tedious, and why do you get penalised for meditating? Was re-spawning enemies really necessary?

Wait. EA made a good Star Wars game that critics and Gaffers actually like?

Jokes aside, I'm now really looking forward to trying this. I was the biggest fan of the Jedi Knight games back in the day. I hated The Force Unleashed though. But if this game delivers on the Uncharted platforming plus Dark Souls combat that the reviews have been praising it for, I'm there. I still think EA have mishandled the license since they first acquired it. But I won't complain that a good game has now finally come out.

Picked this up earlier today and making my through the early stages. Really, really good so far. Even enjoyed the standard 'teach you the basics' opening.

I thought I'd gone off Star Wars a bit. But between this and the Mandalorian, it's as excited as I've been about the franchise in a looooonng time

What a bloody shock... Yet again pre-ordered this with amazon. Was told it was “dispatched” a few days ago meaning it was being sent by Royal Mail... And it’s not even got to royal mails sorting office yet.

Looks like I’ll be taking a trip out to Smyths later to pick it up, and send the other copy back...

What’s the point of paying for Prime again?

Reviews don't say but does it have a lot of cutscenes or no? I'm hoping yes. Literally want a heavy story Star Wars game.

Seems like people are streaming the game already

Looks pretty bad visually and on rails it seems from what i saw so far.

Best looking game this generation. I suspected it as much using a lot of ILM's assets and help. This is the spiritual successor to SW:1313.

Well I'm not below minimum specs. Though I am below recommended. Other people apparently are having better results than I am with a 970, so not sure what's going on.

I have a 2080Ti and the game is mostly 59-60FPS, but the cutscenes are done in such a high quality rendering and several characters in front of the camera made it dip to 30s at times. I expected this because the rendering quality is stellar! Most of the games cutscenes only have like 2 characters on-screen at the same time.

and saying it’s best graphics of this gen is YOUR opinion

So should this be played on harder-than-normal from the start?

yes, absolutely, imo

start on the second highest diff and move up to highest if you breeze thru the first boss

I don’t consider the difficulty to be “souls-like,” it’s not an especially difficult game IMO

it’s a good game, definitely a good game, I’m happy with it, don’t get me wrong

the One X in performance mode feels extremely unstable...

I'm currently moving it to the internal HDD just to make sure these aren't loading related.
Same issue, I also have pausing and juddering when I move to different areas or just run across a platform.

running the game from a SSD as it was originally on a 2TB drive but still the same problem. 🙄

Other than that it’s a great game.

the only way ro resolve loading stutters on Xbox One is usually to move it onto the internal drive.

many devs don't actually test external drives and that leads to some issues in a handful of games.

if you run Shovel Knight for example on an external drive, no matter how fast it is, you will have 1 to 2 second pauses/stutters before every boss fight

It took some tweaking of the keybindings (the default setup is awful, imo) but the game is pretty enjoyable on M+KB once you get everything setup conveniently. Game straight up tells you at boot-up that is is better with a controller though, and like most single player third person experiences, it is better with controller for sure.

Hot take (not really tbh)
I'm ready to bet that this game has probably a worst level design\combat\challenge than surge 2 but hey look, star wars souls lights with nice graphics, 85 for good measure...

Still curious to play the game to see by myself after DS.

I've been struggling with the PC version on my system. The game runs great and looks great for me, but it crashes randomly. No matter what's happening on the screen or the reported CPU/GPU load, it just crashes to an error reporter. I'm going to try and update my motherboard bios and maybe check my memory timings. I recently made it through another UE4 game, The Outer Worlds, without a single crash, but this game is causing some issues. Eh, I don't know. PC gaming is great, but sometimes confusing.

can better do that when u want to make a mainstream hit then be like death stranding wich get alot of shit even though it did alot of unique new things :/

Anyways, so they did build it like a souls game in terms of mechanics and its nice that you can play with alot of different modes.
Dwelling on that and letting it get to you is a waste of energy. As long as you enjoyed DS who cares if others don't? No one game will click with everyone. Different strokes for different folks.

Be starting this shortly, if anyone wants any specific questions answered, post them and I'll feed back in a couple of hours.

Main question for me will be difficulty settings with hearing "Souls" comparisons. Now hearing that from most of the "co-opting disabled people for easy modes" gaming press, I will take with a grain of salt.

Would rather read impressions here. Knowing there are adjustable difficulties, I think it will be hard to capture "Souls magic" without having noticeable cheesiness that adjustable difficulties can sometimes bring. Soulsborne are fine tuned to one setting.

Basically the most optimal giving a decent challenge, but not feeling denutted as a Jedi with cheesy tactics like saber sponges, etc..

Enjoyed the first couple hours. I'm on the second planet now and suddenly save points are more rare than the first planet. And enemies seem more annoying, like those rat things that just randomly burrow from underground and knock you out. Then they throw RPG guys at you...I dunno, feels like they leaned too hard into the souls formula. It can get pretty chaotic, but I have had some fun fights. Got pissed off though as I went like 20 minutes without a save point and then got overwelmed by a group of enemies. Got mad and just exited the game.

In general, combat feels more loosey goosey to me than I had expected. I expected it to feel heavier and tighter. Just gotta adjust though.

I haven't watched the DF video yet, but, on Xbox One X, it's not going well. I've seen huge frame drops in quality mode and performance mode looks terrible. I see texture pop in and what looks like parts of the level loading in front of me. I don't dislike the game but I think it needs work.

I have to wonder if there is something more beyond the platform itself. My X experience has been very smooth even like 15 hours into the game. The S experience has been horrible. So I get the feeling it will be quite variable per system...more than usual.

What mode are you guys sticking to? Like I said haven't watched your video yet.

I do wanna point out the worst of my issues were on the first planet. I'm bad with planet names, but the grassy one where you meet the droid. It was better on the next planet, but that's when the gameplay started pissing me off lol.

Edit: Also I am primarialy sticking to Quality mode, as performance mode just looks weird to me.
