Star Wars Land Coming to Walt Disney World in Orlando

Did a search, sorry if Old.

I'm going to go ahead and get in line.

As we impatiently await more news about Disney's highly-anticipated Star Wars: Episode VII, multiple reports have surfaced that a Star Wars Land theme park is in the works at the Walt Disney World resort in Orlando, Florida.

The attraction will likely be an expansion of the theme park's Disney's Hollywood Studios attraction that will build on the existing Star Tours. Here's what an Disney source had to say about the Star Tours expansion.

"Expect to see new levels added to Star Tours and some more interactive attractions, possibly an additional ride. Most of the expansion will be environments and character meet-and-greet areas."

While nothing has been confirmed by Disney, sources indicate this will likely be a five-year project that will be completed in the year 2018. If that is the case, the opening will fall between the proposed release dates for Star Wars: Episode VIII in 2017 and Star Wars: Episode IX in 2019. However, it is believed that the studio may accelerate construction to get it ready for 2017, which happens to be the 40th Anniversary of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope.

The Disney source also revealed that the studio is planning on building a restaurant based on the Chalmun's Cantina in Mos Eiseley, that was featured in 1977's Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. Nothing has been confirmed by Walt Disney World or LucasFilm as of yet, so stay tuned for more updates.
Star Wars: Episode VII comes to theaters in 2015 and stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels. The film is directed by J.J. Abrams.

I hope we get a great Star Wars themed restaurant out of this. Bonus points to Disney if they don't succumb to just making the Mos Eisley Cantina.

Decides to take acid and go to Star Wars land, has bad trip and realizes everything he loves is just misguided consumerism.

Not sure if this gets me to want to go back to that hellhole of a park, but it is intriguing. Hate the place - except Epcot. That's ok. Plenty of hard liquor and beer everywhere.

Guess I'll check back in like 4 years when it's done.

I really want to head to Orlando this summer but there's so much stuff under construction at both places that just makes waiting seem like the best idea.

Ugh, Disneyland gets shafted again. Blow up California Adventure and replace with Star Wars Land please.

Well, there were those rumors that they were going to replace Innoventions in Tomorrowland with the Stark Expo. Much of Tomorrowland is already Star Wars stuff anyway.

I vote for Storm Troopers to be the new security staff and occasionally escort someone to Dungeon Land with realistic interrogation devices.

Wonder what universal is gonna do to counter?

They're expanding too. Harry Potter will get an expansion and a link between the two parks. Simpsons is under construction. Transformers also is continuing to get built up as far as I know.

So they have a few franchises to keep up the interest. Although Star Wars will count for a lot for Disney, of course.

I love how they are like "maybe a new ride, but mostly just a bunch of bullshit." I love Disney World, but they are cheap. The character meet-and-greet infestation is really disappointing and a cheap way to fill space. Just look at Fantasyland. Epcot fucking rocks though, and Magic Kingdom on the whole is still great.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage

You just know that song is going to be playing the entire time.

Seriously, though, it should be getting an entire park.

Totally expected, I remember news a few years so when Hogwarts was being built that Disney wanted to do the same, when they announced buying Star Wars it became pretty clear they were going to use the brand. I'm surprised they haven't done a Marval thing yet, I know there's a comic section in Universal, I wonder if there is some deal saying Disney can't do the same with the brand.

Epcot is my favourite, I love just walking around visiting all the little shops and restaurants. I've found it to be one of the less busy parks, so I always have a nice calm day out at the place.

This is just the beginning. Disney is going to milk Star Wars till it's dry, and then reboot it and start all over again.

What about a Marvel Land too ? =(

Islands of Adventure has quite a bit of Marvel stuff.. not sure exactly how that license works for them but I'm sure it's quite a lengthy one.

I keep hoping/waiting for one of the parks to make a Nintendo-themed area. :( Disney had to do something though as Universal has unsurprisingly had massive gains in attendance due to the Wizarding World and the expansion would just continue to push people towards Universal.

I like the other Mos Eisley song a bit more, but at least they have two songs to loop. Who knows, maybe they made a Christmas album in that style at some point.

Actually, there was a recent survey by Six Flags asking what people would like to see in their parks (they have DC Comics and Looney Tunes), and one of the options was Super Mario.

It was inevitable after the Harry Potter park at Universal, but it's disappointing to have part of Disney World based on a specific property instead of a broader theme.

It makes up for the fact that Avatarland at the Animal Kingdom will be a complete flop.

I expect there to be a Tatooine Cantina Bar

Ugh, Disney cheaping out.

Universal are adding serious rides and themes down the road- Harry Potter expansion, Springfield, Transformers. They're stealing the narrative, and a few meet-n-greets and a restaurant is not going to change that.

They need to announce the fifth park. Hell, they don't even need to put it into immediate construction, but some new vision is needed to get people's attention again.
