There's no way they will be as fundamentally flawed as the prequels. That was a perfect storm - one guy who had lost his grip on writing and storytelling and character being allowed free reign to get certain things woefully wrong.

This is going to be far more of a big collaborative Hollywood blockbuster project, and these things tend to have a lot more built in safe guards. They can have a lot of problems, but are basically functional. At worst it will be mediocre.

I feel a healthy amount of skepticism is important. I don't even mean to pick you out, but the culture of "OMG THIS THING IS THE BEST THING UNTIL THE NEXT BIG THING"...I'm always wary of listening to those people. If everything is amazing and perfect and wonderful, than those words don't really mean anything. Some things are just good. Pretty good. Solid. Satisfying without being amazing, although maybe some aspects of it are amazing. A LOT of things are just mediocre. And there's plenty that's bad.

So I always save "amazing" "perfect" "wonderful" for the rare things that actually benefit from those adjectives. All-Star Superman, Mad Max: Fury Road, the forest level in Bloodborne, my last GF's ass, etc.

I fully hope TFA is great, but from where I'm sitting only one, maybe two films in the series deserve that moniker. I'm excited, but there are levels between "this will be SHIT" and "OMG THIS WILL BE THE FUCKIN' MESSIAH OF CINEMA"

See, I think you're taking what I said a fridge too far in a pretty significant way there at the end.

I don't think film needs a messiah, and I think that's where this whole schism originates from. I think an amazing movie (sure, I'll say "perfect" because I can and I like it) can just be an amazing movie on its own.

There hasn't been a single moment of the movie shown, to me, that hasn't been absolutely perfect in tone, performance, and composition. So far this movie has given me know cause to expect anything other than that.

There will I guess possibly be bum moments in there but, again, why live in a future that hasn't happened yet or a past that once hurt your feelings? Why not live in the now? Every trailer has been amazing (even if you don't consider them perfect like I do). Just let that inspire happy thoughts in your day.

Everyone has this strange compulsion to voice feelings from a future in which they're evaluating the entire movie based on past experience.

It's like you're choosing a path of cynical disappointment when there's literally no reason to.

Just spent an hour watching Indiana Jones clips, those films are so much fun, I hope they make another one. Also, John Williams was on fire when doing The Temple of Doom score, I was listening to it at work today. Some really great themes that aren't in the other Indy films.

But Benny you literally love everything nerdy.

Can't wait to see this. Going to have to avoid threads like the plague afterwards though, I don't think I'm going to be ready for all the excessive nitpicking.

So far almost all of the original ship and vehicle design for this movie is underwhelming. I'm really worried about the look going forward. I do have the art of book preordered though.

Have we actually seen any genuinely original vehicles in the movie? There's Rey's speeder, I guess, and that's just a hovering refrigerator. Everything else appears to be the standard fare - TIEs, X-wings, Imperial shuttles, Star Destroyers. Unless that's what you mean by underwhelming?

Rey's speeder is pretty beautiful, I think.

The hype awakens..

I think I might try to catch a showing on the Sunday after the premiere.. It might be time to take my leave from the Internet to avoid spoilers. I've been on a media blackout since the first trailer and I'm already seeing some spoilerish gifs in this thread

Ya'll be nut flavored popsicles, yo.

I'd love to have a Sideshown style model of it. It's a really weird but cool design, I feel.

God im so curious what the opening crawl will be, if it leaks im going to read it 100%

I can't wait to hear the movie theater erupt when the the music hits and the STAR WARS title hits the screen. Gonna be a special moment.

Why ruin the magic of a new Star Wars opening crawl?

Honestly, because its very likely my eyes will be too bad to read it proper in the theatre :(

Also even if they could id forget it 2 mins in and id love a little backstory

It'll probably have to do with taxations and trade disputes. Maybe they'll talk about how Luke can't afford to keep paying his mortgage.

Question for you guys. If I dont already have tickets, how likely am I to be able to see this on Sunday the 20th during the day/afternoon?

It all boils down to city population and what theater you're going to.

My theater of choice still has tickets for the 7:00 Thursday showing, but it's a little town with multiple theaters.

Whereas something like an Imax or Alamo Drafthouse in a major city...good luck.

Just walking up to the theater and buying a ticket an hour before it starts? That might be an issue.

Yup. My town has only 1 theatre. It's amazing because it's a college town but anyway. I think they are showing TFA in all theater's at every available slot in my town. So I got advanced tickets.

Anyone from Florida making the trip to the iMax in Ft.Lauderdale for the 70mm? Got tickets for Thursday night at 1 am. Have to drive back to Miami after.

😓

Curse you Bobby Roberts and that spoiler thread. I clicked it, but I dare not scroll beyond first post. It's sooooo tempting :(

I wonder how different it is from the trailers, I feel like you could get a pretty good understanding of what where when in broad strokes from the footage so far released.

Crap... I'm going to click it before the 17th. Heaven help me, I already know too much.

I'm going radio silent on the 16th.

People love to spoil Game of Thrones on the day before it airs so I can only imagine how bad it'll be for Star Wars.

Do they have reserved seats at that IMAX? I was thinking of going there later in the week, but the anxiety of getting a decent seat has me thinking pass.

Thank you John Williams.

This. So this.

I am mad hyped and I've been looking forward to this for many years but funny enough, John Williams is the most exciting reason why I want to see it.

...that and lightsabers, everything is better with lightsabers.

My friend works in a start up app development company and their boss has arranged VIP screening for the staff on 18th. He is allowed to bring 3 friends along.

That's right, I am going bitches. woot woot

Only downside is, I really wanted to watch it with the audience filled with fans with all the cheers and stuff.
